New "Roles" list!

In an effort to increase member participation and joy-on-the-job, the Rick Riordan Task Force HR Department is proud to present Member Roles. These roles are open to any and all RRTF members, and are designed to help all Wikipedians (members and non-members alike) better understand each RRTF member's skills and specialties. New parameters for RRinvite

The template Template:RRinvite has just been updated with two new parameters that allow RRTF members to customize the message delivered to taskforce invitees. Check out the documentation page for more information. -- 2ReinreB2 (talk) 18:16, 12 November 2016 (UTC)

Because I have been experimenting, there is now also a parameter to change the logo displayed with the message, currently with two options. If we like it, I can do this to other templates as well (within reason, of course). The important thing to note is that nothing has changed about the default template. Hammer of Thor

@22mikpau: The answer is: whenever someone has the time (the alert box is really just a suggestion). Step one is to use the Article wizard to create a draft (called "Draft:The Hammer of Thor"). Although there are other ways to create an article, this is the best option. Step two would then be to start working on the draft. It's helpful to post a notice about it here so other users can help out too, but that's up to the creator. Ultimately, step three will be to nominate it for AFC review, but it will take some time to get to that point.

The big thing is that The Hammer of Thor is currently not notable, although it should be in a couple of months. For the moment, a draft would just be for coming up with a plot summary and development information, and to start compiling references for an eventual "critical reception" section. Any editor is certainly welcome to get started on these things using their own personal sandbox. Thanks to Pedrohoneto, The House of Hades is now a good article nominee! RRTF members, if you are free, consider reviewing the page. If accepted, the page would be our fifth good article. The Son of Neptune, another one of our current GA's and from the same series, received roughly the same amount of traffic: 5,000 pageviews per month. I think this page has a good shot at being accepted, and having another GA would help to increase the taskforce's credibility among other WikiProjects. Request for comment on new imprint

While looking for sources for our Draft:The Hammer of Thor, I discovered that Rick Riordan announced a new imprint last September. Rick Riordan Presents is slated for a July 2018 launch. This gives us some time to think, but I wanted to pose the question now: Do we want to cover the books published under this imprint, if they are notable? Rocco Edit-A-Thon

As a way to boost participation, RRTF is beginning its first ever Edit-A-Thon (hopefully a repeated gig!). In honor of his birthday on July 9, this Collaboration will focus on John Rocco. Rocco has been the illustrator for most of Rick Riordan's books, noted especially for his cover art and full-page illustrations in Percy Jackson's Greek Gods. Rocco is also a children's book author himself; his most noted works are Blackout and Swim that Rock.

The focus of this Edit-A-Thon will be to improve pages related to Rocco - his biographical page, his books' pages, and pages for any uploaded cover art by him. Help is needed in a variety of areas, including referencing, copyediting, and new page creation. Please, jump in wherever you can! You may find these templates useful for letting other members know what work is left to be done. Some potentially useful sources of information can be found here. This editing event will last until the first day of August, when the most helpful contributors will be lauded here on the forums. All RRTF members will be automatically considered for the award.

While I have your attention, please also keep in mind our upcoming annual Roll-Call in August/September. If you wish to remain an Active member, you will need to respond to the Roll-Call announcement here on the RRTF forums during the announced time window. Don't worry! The Son of Neptune and The Titan's Curse

Should we add the above books to our list of good articles. First, sorry about the spellchecker, Second I found we have a list of good articles outside of the list of "Completed tasks" and I fixed the unencyclopedic parts on the Titan's Curse. However I'm still not sure about the prophesy section. By the way I listed going over GA articles on our focus calender, since we haven't done that for a while. I think that going over older GA's is a good plan, but we shouldn't delist them unless they're officially demoted. Definitely consider putting them up for reevaluation, but make sure to warn other members well in advance (like with the focus calendar). That way, if they get demoted, it will be because they deserve to be, not because RRTF wasn't paying attention. On the prophecies, the opinion seems to be divided among Wikipedians (and WP:NV). I personally think that if they pass(ed) GA with the prophecy sections, those sections should stay. If a GA reviewer says to cut, though, my experience has been that we should cut them without a fight. -- 2ReinreB2 (talk) 21:36, 12 June 2017 (UTC)

IMPORTANT: Biographies of living persons policy

Hello, task force members. Because of the Rocco Edit-A-Thon, I recently came across some violations of Wikipedia policy on John Rocco. Specifically, there was some rather too-personal information about the author/illustrator's family that goes against the Biographies of living persons policy. A nonmember came by and took care of it, but I want to make sure that we're doubly careful about this sort of thing in the future. I'll be checking all our biographical pages later this evening. I'd like to ask that any member who happens to speak another language go check out related bio pages on other-language versions of the wiki. Although they're technically under the jurisdiction of other-language sister projects, we are the most active Task Force managing these pages.

On a related note, thanks to all who've been helping with the Edit-A-Thon collaboration. This is exactly what I'd hoped for: Our participation is up and we're coming across (and fixing!) issues we never knew we had. Keep up the good work! -- 2ReinreB2 (talk) 22:42, 13 June 2017 (UTC)

It appears most languages don't even have articles on Rick Riordan, much less John Rocco, extra. There was some slightly too personal info on Rick's German page but when I attempted to fix it, a notice said:"This site is protected to avoid vandalism". It said by the way; "Rick Riordan lives with his two sons and his wife in Boston." Maybe it's nothing but frankly I don't want to make a mistake lIke that again. Riordan has actually said several times that he lives in Boston, as well as publicly described his two sons (because of how they've shaped the PJ series). I think we're okay leaving that info up. On John Rocco there is an external link to the Library of Congrass that appears to bsevere that got the family info. Should we remove that link? What about the source seeing how it's used other times in the article. 22mikpau (talk) 21:13, 15 June 2017 (UTC)

...Essentially, yes. In this age of identity theft and social media snafus, it might be better just to ask yourself, "If I were X, would I want this info about me on the internet? Do I want readers to find my personal social media, blogs, etc. by following these links? Does this info actually help anyone understand my work or importance, or is it pretty basic personal info?" And we should definitely avoid anything that the person in question hasn't made public. Authors, politicians, etc. don't always advertise their relationships or where they live, although the info is certainly available on their personal pages online. As to the LoC source, I think it can stay. Let me know if you have any other thoughts. Rocco Edit-A-Thon results

Hello all. Today marks the final day of our first John Rocco Edit-A-Thon, hosted in honor of the author/illustrator's July birthday. Through the efforts of this task force, John Rocco has received some minor cleanup help and lots more attention. Most importantly, RRTF applied lessons learned on that page to all our articles, and now adheres much better to several important Wikipedia policies (including WP:BIO). I call that a win!

The Edit-A-Thon's most helpful member was 22mikpau. They were particularly helpful in working with WP:BIO and reaching out beyond the task force to bring the Edit-A-Thon into public attention. Much of this has been technical, but we've also gained experience as an organization. We've implemented a new Roles system and filled some of these new posts. A Possibility

During my research for my Signpost article, I found that most editers want a downsizing on Subprojects. I think we should consider our options. 2Renibe2, wheile I appreciate your optimism ,lets face it.The group is not what it used to be and the books of Rick Rioridan is narrow in both scale and reader interest level. The John Rocco edit-a-thon was not as successful as you mentioned and most of us, including me, are not as active as it may appear just looking at the roll call. What I`m proposing is working with WP:Novels and other task forces to reorgainize in something like, Young adult fiction task force I think it would be broader and more likely to prosper in such a large encyclopedia. As Riordan himself stated, his books are all children's literature, aged 10-12. There are WikiProjects such as WP:WikiProject Warriors that focus on only one series written by an author that is not as notable as Riordan's work and you are making a proposal to merge a harmless task force.
