Virgo

Virgo is an add-on content filter for Wikipedia currently under development. It is meant to meet the needs of those who do not wish to see nudity but who cannot do anything about it due to WP:NOTCENSORED, and works around this rule by modifying only what is viewed by those with the add-on installed. Anyone interested in reviewing/critiquing may find the proposal here, the code-under-development here, and the page for the project-under-development here. The add-on is still being coded, which is why it has zero features at the moment and does not do anything it is intended to do yet. (I'm still working on learning how to code in js, frankly). Coordinators' working group

Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.

All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. Article alerts

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. image in International_humanitarian_law#Violations_and_punishment

Hello, I would like to ask anybody to please comment on whether the image in that section of [[International_humanitarian_law is appropriate for the article. Discussion here. Thanks, Nableezy (talk) 06:33, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

The talk is of one of conflicting ideologies. The image mentioned is inappropriate and gone. I see the logo of The International Court of Justice. The Court is not relevant to the section & not mentioned in the article. The image must be a mistake. I will remove it. You two need to play nice.Romanfall (talk) 09:19, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

RfC on appropriate scope of Human rights in the United States

A Request for Comment has been filed at Human rights in the United States. Editors have been debating, and failed to reach agreement on, whether issues such as Abu Ghraib and Guantánamo Bay should be covered in the article or not. Some editors have also questioned whether issues related to sexual orientation, or the US government's response to Hurricane Katrina, should be covered in the article.

LGBT rights in...

There is a systematic series of region- and country-level "LGBT rights in..." pages (e.g. LGBT rights in Africa, LGBT rights in New Zealand) which should be added to this wikiproject with importance mid (maybe high for regional pages?). Request for higher priority on improving "Stoning" article

Because of the recent theatrical release about the stoning of Soriya S (sp?), this article is likely to get many more hits. There are some good suggestions on its discussion page for improvement and NPOV. A better title might be "Stoning as punishment." Katherine Phillips detention incident was merged into Human rights in Kuwait#Katherine Phillips detention incident per the WP:Articles for deletion/Katherine Phillips detention incident decision in April 2009. The section appears to be given excessive weight, and I hoped someone from this project could take a look at it an decide the appropriate level of inclusion. Persecution of Falun Gong AfD

Members of the WikiProject Human Rights are requested to weigh in at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Persecution_of_Falun_Gong. The question at issue is whether there are sufficient grounds to have an article called "Persecution of Falun Gong". Fringe theory promotion at Human rights

A number of Iranian editors are attempting to add poorly sourced or unsourced claims to Human rights concerning a 6th century BC artifact, the Cyrus cylinder. They claim that it is supposedly the world's first charter of human rights, and that the Persian emperor Cyrus the Great effectively originated the concept of human rights. (To summarize, this is a fringe theory promoted by the late Shah of Iran in the 1970s as part of his regime's propaganda and has subsequently been promoted by Iranian ultranationalists, particularly in the pro-Shah diaspora. Mainstream historians reject this viewpoint as tendentious and anachronistic.) This has previously been discussed on the fringe theories noticeboard on two previous occasions. It's now being discussed at Talk:Human rights#Religious tolerance and Achaemenids. Human rights is listed as a top-importance article for this WikiProject so some input from outside editors would be appreciated. -- ChrisO (talk) 19:20, 19 October 2009 (UTC)

Cousin marriage kicked out

I noticed that the article cousin marriage was removed from WikiProject Human Rights. However, pages on anti-miscegenation laws and same-sex marriage are included in this WikiProject. First-cousin marriage is banned in most US states, and there are also ongoing debates in Britain and the Netherlands on banning it. Hence, this is a pressing issue and not one that should be ignored, regardless of one's feelings on it. I think that some are unaware of the human rights significance and think the article is merely about genetic or sociological issues. Those issues are present, but the right to marry has been held in the United States to be fundamental and much of the article concerns that.

I've therefore returned the article to "unassessed" status and suggest rating it as Mid-level because, based on your importance criteria, that seems reasonable. I hope it won't be removed again, although it probably will be, at least if the assessor hasn't read this.Khin2718 (talk) 17:42, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

GAR Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women?

Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women was just failed as a Good Article by a reviewer with a poor understanding of the topic and who seemed to want the article turned into a general piece on international law.
