2019?

edit

Well, any interest in doing this again in 2019? ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:06, 15 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Bri: ? ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:07, 15 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
I can contribute but at a reduced level from last year. ☆ Bri (talk) 03:36, 16 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
I will participate and contribute something. Blue Rasberry (talk) 23:14, 21 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
I'm always down, but might I suggest (at least partially) a different direction this year? We've focused on redlinks mostly the last few years (and I have a bias here because I'm running out of geographical location redlinks), but maybe this year at least some of us could focus on article improvement as part of the drive? Maybe a couple folks try to get one article to GA (and pull some strings to cut in the queue since we have a specific event ongoing)? For example, I suggest we look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Cannabis/Popular pages and choose maybe the Top 20 items (of the cannabis-specific ones since many articles with only minor cannabis content are tagged) and try to get all of them at least presentable? I was looking at Hashish and it could really use a makeover, tons of redundant sections, etc. Here's what would be the Top 20 if we stick to cannabis-focused articles:
  1. Cannabidiol
  2. Cannabis (drug)
  3. Legality of cannabis by U.S. jurisdiction
  4. Hemp
  5. Legality of cannabis (a table and map that could use some formatting cleanup)
  6. Cannabis
  7. Hashish
  8. Tetrahydrocannabinol
  9. 420 (cannabis culture) (makes the Top 10 list WP-wide most years for the week of 4/20)
  10. Controlled Substances Act
  11. Cannabis sativa
  12. Medical cannabis
  13. Synthetic cannabinoids
  14. Cannabinoid
  15. Cannabis indica
  16. Cannabis strains
  17. Endocannabinoid system
  18. List of names for cannabis
  19. Effects of cannabis
  20. Hash oil

I'm never opposed to quality over quantity, but at the same time, we can only expect volunteers to do what they can when they can, so sometimes creating a stub to eliminate a red link is easier than overhauling an existing article. I'd love to see a few articles promoted to Good status. Also, perhaps we could submit a request for a cannabis-related article to be selected as "Today's article for improvement" in April? Seems like a way to get some outside influence on an important article. ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:55, 24 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
Great idea, I created Wikipedia:WikiProject Cannabis/420 Collaboration/Today's article for improvement and added it to the project navbox. When it's time we can add it to the welcome page. After the project starts, one of us can select an article to list there. I nominate GLCM as the keeper of the list :) ☆ Bri (talk) 01:14, 17 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Photo drive?

edit

Other than the article creation suggested by the redlist, I'd love to see a photo drive. US hemp industry is obvious target, post hemp legalization. If things go a certain way, we might be able to get some interesting photos in the Northeast as well, about the time this collab is going on. ☆ Bri (talk) 21:20, 21 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

I'm down, and would note this would be a good area for off-wiki outreach. I've been meaning to get into the whole Twitter thing for a bit; unless someone else has a burning desire, how about I set up a twitter feed for "Cannabis on Wiki" or similar (avoiding the proprietary term Wikipedia) and use that both to draw attention to our interesting articles, and also as April nears to start inviting novices to upload photos/videos/etc to help flesh out out articles? Goonsquad LCpl Mulvaney (talk) 06:55, 24 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
You can tag articles with {{Photograph requested|cannabis|in=<locale>}} or more specifically {{Photograph requested|hemp|in=<locale>}} and they will appear at Category:Wikipedia requested images of cannabis and subcategory. We're missing a single image for many legalized states/territories/provinces and Indian reserves/reservations. ☆ Bri (talk) 00:42, 17 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

GA drive

edit

I'd like to nominate Endocannabinoid system for GA, and I will do so if I get at least one person to help. I took Hemp in Kentucky to GA, which wasn't hard, but there was a lot of reformatting of references involved. Not really sure if this is typical or I just had a reviewer who was into citation styles or whatever. Is anybody else in? Bri.public (talk) 15:49, 2 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Bri.public, If you don't get any takers, you might post a request for help over at WikiProject Medicine / Wiki Project Med (who should be informed about this campaign in general), especially given the tag at the top of the article. ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:05, 2 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

"420" bills

edit

Maybe a list article for the project? ☆ Bri (talk) 03:55, 9 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Listing collab. outcomes

edit

Can we start including articles/media created/expanded in February? March? When is the "official" start (as official as these things are, anyway). ☆ Bri (talk) 20:53, 23 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Well, no answer ... my opinion is 30 days prior to 4/20 is a legit time to start listing articles in the outcomes. I.e. today we are inside the window. ☆ Bri (talk) 03:29, 22 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
Bri, I'm going to start recording my contributions on April 1. Part of me encourages others to do the same, mostly so we can compare metrics from one April to the next, but I don't feel strongly. Ultimately, our goal here is just to create and improve cannabis-related content; the timeline is arbitrary. ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:23, 25 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

April has arrived, so please be sure to start documenting your work on the main project page. Thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:44, 1 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Daily article for improvement

edit

Should we just cycle through the articles here? ☆ Bri (talk) 00:22, 2 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

I've started listing articles for improvement:
  1. Hash oil 4/1
  2. Legality of cannabis 4/2
  3. Weed the People 4/3
Other than 420 (cannabis culture) on 4/20 (duh), I don't have strong feelings on what should be listed. Anyone else is welcome to nominate or just change the page. Bri.public (talk) 15:43, 2 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
I think I'll promote 420 (cannabis culture) to the daily slot a day early, so ppl can work on it this weekend. ☆ Bri (talk) 14:18, 18 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Spoken article(s)

edit

I know someone with a great speaking voice who is willing to participate in the project by reading an article for WP: Spoken articles. Any suggestions for a first try? ☆ Bri (talk) 00:09, 5 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Bri, Short and evergreen articles are probably best for pilot projects, meaning articles that seem generally complete and won't change significantly in the near future. These are totally self-serving because I wrote them, but Third Eye Shoppe and Burnside Burn are short Good articles. Category:GA-Class Cannabis articles has other good articles. ---Another Believer (Talk) 00:17, 5 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Template tag

edit

Is the {{420Collaboration2019template}} tag only for templates created during the collaboration? Do we tag templates (navboxes esp.) that were improved? ☆ Bri (talk) 03:13, 11 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Bri, Only for newly-created content templates. ---Another Believer (Talk) 03:15, 11 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
Maybe out of scope date-wise but I tagged template:Hemp in the United StatesBri (talk) 03:19, 11 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
Bri, Glad you did! Thanks, ---Another Believer (Talk) 03:21, 11 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

RfC: Should this epilepsy research be added to the Cannabidiol article?

edit

Hi all, according to the RfC instructions, contacting related WikiProjects is a good way to publicize. Forgive me if I'm in the wrong place...

Please weigh in if interested here. petrarchan47คุ 10:14, 19 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Pings

edit

@Robvanvee: Just wanted to make sure you're aware of this ongoing campaign, in case you'd like to contribute during the next few days.

@Bluerasberry: Pinging you as well, just in case!

@Megalibrarygirl: I wonder if there's any article at Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Cannabis of interest? If not, no worries!

Happy editing, all! ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:35, 19 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

I am sitting on a stack of publications for this event. Yes I am conscious of this. My contributions are going to be end of month after 25 April. Thanks for the ping. Blue Rasberry (talk) 15:36, 19 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
All good! ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:37, 19 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Jason, I may be interested in expanding on the Dagga article! Robvanvee 15:40, 19 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

420 for TFA

edit

Ontario Highway 420 / King's Highway 420 is "above the fold" on the main page as Today's featured article. ☆ Bri (talk) 00:05, 20 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

USA Today

edit

Not sure what to do with this: "4/20 specials: 'High' priority list of munchie deals at Pizza Hut, Carl's Jr., Lyft, more", USA Today, April 19, 2019. I don't know if a major middle-market paper has covered this like a straight-up shopping holiday before? ☆ Bri (talk) 17:01, 20 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Thanks!

edit

I'll do one final sweep to update the list new and improved articles, so get your last-minute edits in now!, but otherwise, thanks to all who contributed to this campaign. I was actually a bit distracted this month with other work, but I'm glad to see a small and dedicated group of editors working on this important topic. Well done! ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:19, 30 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

No problem. Thanks to you and Bri as well for putting it together. It was pretty cool to track everyone's edits for the month and see what people were working on.--Jamesy0627144 (talk) 00:24, 2 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
Woot woot thanks to everyone who organized, it was fun to participate. Blue Rasberry (talk) 02:02, 3 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
