Wikipedia Project Ideas

PLEASE SEE THE COVID-19 TAB FOR INFORMATION ON HOW YOU CAN HELP IMPROVE THE COVID-19-RELATED WIKIPEDIA ARTICLES

Cochrane Community Members can use their expertise to improve Wikipedia in many different ways. Approaches include adding new evidence to Wikipedia, keeping articles up to date, and polishing an entire Wikipedia article

1. Improve Wikipedia articles using our list of Cochrane Reviews not yet considered for Wikipedia. Wikipedia:WikiProject Medicine/Cochrane/Cochrane Review List

2. Ensure Cochrane evidence on Wikipedia is up to date and that existing content on Wikipedia is accurate

  • Cochrane Update Project page (a great place to start for new editors!)
  • Coming soon- a list of Cochrane Reviews in your CRG that are already used as references in Wikipedia articles (I can generate this list on request, but there is a small backlog here)

3. Choose a list of Wikipedia articles in your field and assign them to participants. Cochrane evidence and other evidence that meets Wikipedia's Guideline for Reliable Sources (Medicine) can be used to improve the article, and editors can work through Wikipedia's Manual of Style for medical articles.

  • Consider publishing the polished Wikipedia articles in the peer reviewed open access journal WikiJournal of Medicine (Note: It is free to publish in this journal)

There are many different active Cochrane-Wikipedia Projects. Please see the Projects tab for CRG or Network specific contacts. If you are interested in creating a new project please reach out to our Wikipedian in Residence via email: jdawson (at) cochrane (dot) org
