Old-time cowboy horse riding music/theme

edit

I'm having trouble finding a sound effect/song, and unfortunately I have very little to go on (but my google/youtube skills are failing).

Long story short, I'm hoping to find music to play during a scene in a play where two cowboys are riding on horses on a trail. I can think of a particular music piece that would be perfect, but can't seem to find it. It is a slow tempo (like 90 bpm), features mainly a slow guitar picking out a melody one note at a time (in a sort of triplet fashion), and (from what I remember) usually plays as cowboys ride along on their horses with casual conversation.

Does anyone happen to know which song I'm talking about, or know of a song that may fit this scene? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.135.103.192 (talk) 22:42, 13 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

There are any number of possibilities. Can you think of a film or TV show where it would have been used? ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 22:44, 13 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately no (and I realize how little information this is to go off of). The best I can remember is it seemed like more of a cartoon-style song, or in comedic (or cheezy) live action films. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.135.103.192 (talk) 22:59, 13 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Songs like Back in the Saddle Again Gene Autry and I'm an Old Cowhand (From the Rio Grande) Roy Rogers spring to mind. One that is used often is from the Grand Canyon Suite's third movement "On the Trail". You'll hear it at the 1:35 mark. Now this is a traditional rendition but I have heard it made to sound cartoony. "On the Trail" is a good one. Nice and leisurely. As opposed to high-energy galloping, such as William Tell (as mentioned below) or Suppe's "Light Cavalry" or of course the old standard cavalry charge. In contrast, the song "Cheyenne" can work either way, depending on the tempo. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 00:39, 14 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
William Tell Overture? Probably not. Sagittarian Milky Way (talk) 23:50, 13 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You are an intellectual if you can hear that without thinking of The Lone Ranger. Britmax (talk) 12:14, 14 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Equally tough: Thinking of the Lone Ranger without thinking of the Overture. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 14:00, 14 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

For a change of pace, find the Spike Jones version. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 14:02, 17 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
What if you think of A Clockwork Orange? —Tamfang (talk) 19:32, 17 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Or Show us your Lark's which was later parodied by SNL on its very first show. MarnetteD|Talk 20:32, 17 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

OP here; I ended up using "On the Trail", so thanks MarnetteD. I finally found the actual song I was thinking about after the fact. For anyone who is curious, I was originally looking for the melody from "Happy trails", heard about 19 seconds into this version [1].

Thanks again for all of your help, it definitely helped out when I needed it! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.135.103.192 (talk) 01:04, 15 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You are welcome IP. The montage of Roy and Dale from the youtube video that you found sure brings back memories so thanks to you for linking to it. MarnetteD|Talk 14:24, 15 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Now that you've already found the answer, I'm late, but I've had the image of the Three Amigos campfire song in my head ever since you asked the question, and I couldn't think of what the song was called - here is the video. It's the same riff from Happy Trails, now that you mention it! Adam Bishop (talk) 15:54, 15 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Also chiming in late, but when I think slow tempo American West folk songs, I think Home on the Range. uhhlive (talk) 15:43, 16 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
