Is this guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughn?

edit

unknown guitarist

In August 1983 I saw Buddy Guy and Junior Wells preform in Urbana, Illinois (see photos from the event File:Buddy Guy 1983.jpg and File:Junior Wells 1983.jpg.) IIRC, the promotional posters for the event said "with special guest Stevie Ray Vaughn" and one of the performers (Guy, I think) called him "brother Stevie". This was about the time Vaughn's first album came out. I remember the guy playing a lot like Vaughn. But this doesn't look like Vaughn to me. Is it? Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 05:39, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I doubt this is Vaughn. For the first, it doesn't look like him at all: The hair is wrong, the beard is wrong (he usually kept a soul patch if anything), I'd never seen him dress like that for any public appearance. He always dressed in flowing shirts and I've never seen a picture or video of him peforming live without his hat (kind of a wide-brimmed pork pie hat or a flat topped cowboy hat). However, the giveaway for me is the guitar. Even if Vaughn was performing incognito (i.e. trying to look different), he played Fender Stratocasters almost exclusively. See Stevie Ray Vaughan's musical instruments. I have never seen him play anything else, especially not a hollowbody electric Gibson like the one in that picture. If it was him he's a) wearing a perm in his hair and a style of beard I'd never seen him in b) he's dressed as I've never seen him dress for a public performance before c) he's playing a musical instrument I've never seen him play before. My guess is this isn't him at all. --Jayron32 15:04, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
And to confirm it, HERE is a picture of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Buddy Guy performing together in 1983 in New York City. You can clearly see your picture is of a different person. --Jayron32 15:11, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I believe you are right. This was a show at the Univ of Illinois student union, about 2 months after Vaughn's first album came out (which I had not heard yet). They basically played a 5-hour show like a bar set. They played for about 45 minutes and took a 15-minute break. Each time they came out, this guy would come out with the band and do a song or two, then Guy came out and did a song or two, and then Wells would come out and join them. My memory is that he played a lot like Vaughn. I remember at the time thinking "this guy is stealing Albert King licks" (like Vaughn borrowed). When I heard Texas Flood I thought that I had heard him play some of those songs. But you are right about the hair, beard, style of dress, and guitar. Just a thought, but maybe if Stevie couldn't make the gig they found a last-minute substitute, and as Stevie wasn't yet very well known, they might have decided to jokingly pass him off as Stevie. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.197.66.109 (talk) 09:28, 2 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That might be true. Vaughn did play with Buddy Guy that year. Perhaps he had been scheduled to play but something changed. His first album had come out 2 months earlier, but I hadn't heard it yet. Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 14:44, 2 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps not useful in solving the mystery, but looking at his shirt I vividly remember a band existing named "You You You" although I can find no evidence of them now. 10draftsdeep (talk) 20:42, 2 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I don't remember "You You You". This was the Buddy Guy/Junior Wells band. But he could be sitting in. Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 21:38, 2 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Why is Brazil not allowed to play in the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification? --84.61.147.210 (talk) 07:06, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Because they are automatically qualified as the host nation. --212.227.35.78 (talk) 07:24, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The lead and first section, "Qualified teams", both state that Brazil has already qualified. And the table in that section gives the reason of them being the host. Dismas|(talk) 07:55, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Alien vs Parasaurolophus

edit

Parasaurolophus:

H. R. Giger's "Alien": File:Alien vs. Predator (2004) - Alien.jpg (not inlined because it's fair use)

Thoughts? Any evidence as to whether Giger knew about the dinosaur and/or was influenced by it? --Trovatore (talk) 09:47, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It seems possible, but Giger was known to include phallic imagery in his work. I figured the latter had a bigger influence on the Alien's design. Oh, and in a battle, the Parasaurolophus would win--GroovySandwich 10:33, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Parasaurolophus (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) Just throwing this in here to eliminate searching... Oh, and considering that Parasaurolophus was an herbivore, I'd put my money on the Alien. Dismas|(talk) 10:42, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'd put my money on disallowing nonfiction versus fiction comparisons. The gut flora kill the invading Martians every time. 64.134.228.55 (talk) 01:20, 2 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Weights (etc.) of NHL trophies

edit

Does anyone knows where I could find weights, heights, etc. of NHL trophies? I haven't found anything from Google or library... :/-Henswick (talk) 14:23, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This page gives the weight and height of the (current) Stanley Cup as 34.5 lbs and 35.25 in, respectively. Information on other NHL trophies, such as the Lady Byng cup, is proving harder to find. --LarryMac | Talk 20:14, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Where can I stream this rare Canadian show from 1974 called [Swiss_Family_Robinson_(1974_TV_series)]]?

edit

Where can I stream this rare Canadian show from 1974 called Swiss_Family_Robinson_(1974_TV_series)? Neptunekh2 (talk) 19:30, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You probably can't. It may not be availible to see even on DVD or VHS. Not much from the 1970's has been reproduced into modern media today. It may only exist on some deteriorating video tapes in a box in some warehouse somewhere. --Jayron32 00:44, 2 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Except that the article Neptunekh2 linked specifically mentions its availability on DVD. I can't, however, advise on the existence of a legal streaming source, of which there may well be none. If, Neptunekh2, you were seeking to steal from the shows' owners and participants by copyright-breaking illegal streaming, we wouldn't be able to help you. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.197.66.109 (talk) 09:19, 2 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What mythology is Xena Gabrielle_(Xena) Alti from the hit tv show based on? Neptunekh2 (talk) 23:10, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I believe it's based on Greek mythology--GroovySandwich 23:23, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Plus some pre-patriarchal Celtic polytheistic myths; perhaps Nantosuelta, Damona, and/or Nemetona. 64.134.228.55 (talk) 01:26, 2 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
