RADIO PLAY

College radio is much more open, in general, than commercial radio stations are. Commercial radio station programming is very restrictive, and access is basically limited to stuff that the radio stations get from the record companies. However, college radio stations are very free-and-loose with their programming, and will generally play just about anything; especially local acts. What you need to do is contact the college station directly, and ask them directly. You may have some success if you are any good. --Jayron32 19:52, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

I worked at a college radio station for a number of years. Let me tell you, you don't have to be "good" to get on college radio. You need to meet the DJ. Under-classmen who work at a college radio station tend to get playlists and a format that they must follow with no deviation. Once they've done it for a couple of years, though, college DJ's get more leeway in the format (i.e. playing your songs). So find a second or third year students who's been DJ-ing at the station for a while and take them to lunch...or go to a party they're attending...and ask for an interview. Be warned, though, that in a larger market, like NYC or LA, you'll be facing a lot of similar competition for airtime.
