According to our tuque article, a tuque with a brim is called a "bruque". A Google search for "knitted hat brim" yields many results that simply refer to it as a "knitted hat with brim". Dismas|^(talk) 07:55, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

PS3 Flower Levels

After completing the game 'flower' on the Play station 3, each level is represented by a different coloured flower on a windowsil. Does anyone know which colour flower represents which level. I've never heard of this game, but a quick browse brought up this page. I noticed it said that they level of bloomitude for a flower represents how many of the secrets you've discovered, which sounds a bit like what you were talking about. Vimescarrot (talk) 12:02, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

Image sizes on movie DVDs

If I was to "rip" a movie DVD to get a still jpg image from it, what would the typical dimensions in pixels of the image be and what would the definition be like? And what would they be like for blue-ray? 92.29.68.169 (talk) 14:35, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

Theoretically, depending on the DVD player program, could you also do an ALT+Print Screen that would make a bigger image? I know that sometimes DVD player software somehow blacks out such images, but it's worth a shot? Kingsfold (talk) 19:48, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

I've never gotten that to work, for the reason you mention. I don't think the Vista feature for clipping parts of your screen works either. Many media related features are disabled in Microsoft Windows Vista. I think this article explains it pretty well: A Cost Analysis of Windows Vista Content Protection. The freeware Gom player can easily make still images from video files. I do not know if it will work with a DVD as I've never been able to get DVDs to play on my computer, perhaps due to not wanting to pay for the MS codecs. 78.146.200.137 (talk) 11:35, 24 December 2009 (UTC)

Fortunately, Microsoft does not control the issue. The typical problem in the case you describe, is not the inability of the software to support a CODEC (the main CODEC, MPEG-2, is well supported in many players and even in some cases in hardware), it is instead the inability to support CSS decryption. Once the CSS issue is resolved, the DVD's typically play. I'm sure Gom is very good, but I usually recommend VLC in these cases, though neither solve the CSS issue "out of the box" on Windows, that I know of. Grr, none of the good answers I have is legal in the country in which I reside. Within the Wikipedia/Google scope, I'd suggest checking the "External links" at the end of the DeCSS article or googling "DeCSS on X" where X=Target Operating System, with the caveat that none of the answers you find are necessarily legal in the country in which you reside. If your question is "legal ways in the US on Windows", then there two answers I know of: 1) Purchase WinDVD, 2) Purchase PowerDVD (both contain the necessary CSS decryption technology last I checked). —Aladdin Sane (talk) 21:55, 24 December 2009 (UTC)
