Video games as influence on music

What is the most commercially successful band that has acknowledged video games as an influence? NeonMerlin 02:54, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Trent Reznor claimed Doom/Quake was an influence on the work he did at the time he was hired to do sounds for the games. Of course, it is good marketing to claim the games are an influence, so it is difficult to tell if it is just marketing or honest influence. Personally, I think I would rather hate any music that was influenced by the music in early video games. Later ones - especially the Square Enix games - have actual music that has been played by orchestras without any hint of a video game in sight. -- kainaw™ 12:42, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

I said video games as an influence, not the music from video games as an influence. What's so strange about the idea that music is influenced by other media? NeonMerlin 06:55, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Apparently I wasn't clear enough. In the interview I referenced, Reznor was allowed to view and play the games before he wrote the music for them. He claimed that the games influenced the music he intended to write. Similarly, the Square Enix games are well planned out and have plenty of pictures drawn before the music is written. Nobuo Uematsu uses that (and previous games) as an influence for his music. I assume that using a game as an influence to write music for the game counts as having a video game influence music. -- kainaw™ 12:53, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Could anybody tell me when the next episodes would be done and released?

Legend of the Condor Hero (anime)

HI!

So far, there are 52 episodes released of The Legend of the Condor Hero (anime series)

The rest of the series have yet to be shown. Season I is composed of 2 parts —Episodes 1-12 and Episodes 13-26. Season II takes after the end of Season I,starting from Episode 27 down to 52. Could anybody tell me when the next episodes would be done and released because the whole story still didn’t finish? Thanks a lot !!!

Anime news network has dates only for the first season DVDs. You may be able to stream the second season here. Here is an English translation of the original wuxia novel. PAL or NTSC?

I've heard that either PAL games do not work on NTSC consoles, or NTSC games do not work on PAL consoles. Which is the correct statement? Because I am getting a game soon, and the cheapest copy of that game on eBay is probably an NTSC version! 124.176.160.139 (talk) 11:06, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

PAL cannot work with NTSC, nor can NTSC work with PAL. The reason being that they use completely different resolutions and frequencies. If you have a PAL console, you must have a PAL game, otherwise it will not work. This is part of the reason that (regretibly) games take forever to reach Europe. Japan and the U.S. both use NTSC, so if you have a PAL console then I would avoid buying games from those countries. 206.252.74.48 (talk) 16:12, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

With regard to the video standard, that's not entirely true. Many PAL television can run at both 60hz and and 50hz, though the inverse of that (NTSC televisions) is usually not true. To the original poster, as to not confuse the issue you may want to reword your question. Handheld consoles such as the Nintendo DS and Playstation Portable do not have region locking - and PAL games can be played on systems outside of that territory. SPORT - CURRIE CUP CRICKET RECORDS

Can anyone please provide me with the link to a good website or two containing records & statistics for South African cricket. In particular, I am trying to research certain facts for the Currie Cup cricket competition (now known as the SuperSport Series). These include batting partnership records, best bowling analysis to date and greatest number of dismissals by a wicketkeeper in the competition.

Although I know several of the most likely sites, (cricketachive.com, Wisden and Cricetinfo/South Africa etc.), I can't seem to actually find records and statistics for the competition I am researching. I've even emailed Cricket South Africa but they never replied!! Can you help please? Adscm (talk) 13:17, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

I really don't think any exists online, unfortunately. There's a huge lack of information on this kind of thing for all domestic competitions due to its perceived importance compared to international cricket. I would assume you've found it, but these are the only records for SA first-class cricket I could find -- not much. Bit of a shame. What you could try doing is emailing CricketArchive, see if they have any information on it, or any plans for such information. They tend to be rather good at replying to emails. Singin' in the Rain

I was watching Singin' in the Rain the other day and started thinking if it ever was shown in the Soviet Union or any other communist country. Considering the glamorous life of Don Lockwood and the others, I'm curious as to how it was received. Or did the Soviet Union have musical films in their five year plans and didn't show MGM musicals? music of the 1920s

I take it you mean showtunes rather than classical. Can only think of Red Hot + Blue compilation, all covers of Cole Porter's songs from around 1932 on – bit later than your thematic. Irving Berlin is earlier and you might find something on google here[1] sung by Ella Fitzgerald and an audio CD of 2003. Then there was Rogers and Hart whose songs seem earlier and in your decade than Rogers and Hammerstein. Julia Rossi (talk) 04:05, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

PS right in your era – there was a compilation of George Gershwin songs maybe from Porgy and Bess maybe other stuff, not sure, but Sinead O'Connor was recording something from it for a CD some years ago (poss "My man's gone now"?).
