Just ban them all.

She's talking about this, this, this and above all, this. More speficically it should point to Supreme Master TV but (incidentally) it's the first article I created on WP as well as the first that was nominated for deletion. :) (See my archive 1 for details). "We will rebuild. We're going to come out of this stronger than before...The skyline will be made whole again."

This is a snippit of the quote used by Giuliani on the September 11 attacks. I'm sorry this is a little short notice, but maybe it could replace the current 9/11 quotation? I'm having a hard time with the links and apologies if it's already been used, I did check the archives. •xytram•tkcsgy 14:15, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

  • Comment - I don't really like WP:REVERT as the link for rebuild, but then again I can't think of anything better either. Guess I'll just shut up. Nutiketaiel (talk) 14:31, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
  • Comment - Maybe due to the nature of this quotation, not to use links at all. More as a memorial for those affected by 9/11? We could either -> link it to Giuliani or the September 11 attacks. I don't know it's still quite a sensitive subject. •xytram•tkcsgy 14:37, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
  • Comment No opinion on this suggestion, but the current motto was intentionally placed on September 11th, despite it not being entered as a special nomination: Wikipedia:Motto of the day/September 11, 2008. Even though that phrase does come from an unrelated movie, I had thought it would also serve as a sort of memorial, especially considering the links. Hersfold (t/a/c) 21:17, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
  • Sorry I didn't notice that. The current one is appropriate. Maybe we can keep this one for next year? •xytram•tkcsgy 22:46, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
  • That'll work. We've had special nominations sit around for a long time before their schedule date comes up. Hersfold (t/a/c) 04:28, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
  • Weak Support: It works fine, but I don't know how people would take it if we relate this to Wikipedia. I mean, 9/11 is sensitive subject to the Americans isn't it? Chamal Talk ± 13:55, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
  • Neutral. I think that the linkage is clever, but I agree with Chamal that 9/11 is rather a sensitive subject to America. TopGearFreak 17:48, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

  • Support - I do not think that it being American focused is bad. While I like the idea of no links, which would intensify the memorial, that leaves it with no connection to WP. I'm a little unhappy with the links for "rebuild" and "skyline", so possibly another version would be good. Overall though, I can definitely support this as a nice memorial. We all bloom towards the sunlight.

I read it here (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-11467235) in an interview by the BBC (right at the end of the page). The full line the interviewee said was: "teachers can have an influence that can reach long beyond the classroom, unlocking ambitions. We all bloom towards the sunlight." It kind of inspired me today, so I thought might also be good for Wikipedia (essentially a teaching tool) - not sure whether the motto should be reworded to fit in more with the whole of the sentence, or just kept to the shorter version I have suggested. Marmouse999 (talk) 22:43, 5 October 2010 (UTC)

Do you think we should also mention that it is a quote from Lenny Henry? Marmouse999 (talk) 09:22, 6 October 2010 (UTC)

  • I share Simply south's concern. This quote seems a little, um, sad, sorry. There are many great middle-aged editors here and they might find this rather depressing. Clementina talk 00:51, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
    • How about if the last link changes to something related to flying or soaring? So you think middle age will be okay, and it turns out to be better than okay Marmouse999 (talk) 09:27, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
      • I'm still concerned about this and to answer this and the question on the quote above, yes they should refer to parts of Wikipedia itself, not just articles. Simply south (talk) 10:06, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
        • I do not know where to start, well, first of all this seems to have been Cooltiger989's last edit (atm, 2010-10-19) on Wikipedia and for this reason, I think he did not respond to our questions. We have to say that we have a new "poet" (^____^) because a web search of the phrase produced no results. I do not find it depressing, that's life. The problem is this: how do we use it on MOTD? Well, my first thought is to use articles. So, "middle-aged" might be an article that is half of the ratings scale (C-B). But, I do not like this very much because articles' quality (usually) increases with the passage of time. My second thought was about using editors. Then, we have three choices: 1. by longevity (years of contributions to Wikipedia), 2. by number of edits. 3. by user levels. I hope I'll be able to think something... and nominate one of them shortly. –pjoef (talkcontribs) 10:58, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

  • Support I think this version is the best. While WP:IDIOT might be a little hurtful, this link is far better - and I like the way you linked "stupid questions" to WP:Q, pjoef - it fits nicely. :) Love, Clementina talk 09:21, 12 October 2010 (UTC)
  • Support - I like it :) don't be a dick fits perfectly. I think using m:DICK would be better but it'd be insulting. It also uses different links from the approved versions (but I do NOT like the WP:EDIANS wlink for "whole world" because editors are just a part of the "whole world", which still is Wikipedia.) –pjoef (talkcontribs) 08:25, 28 September 2010 (UTC)

I would be true, for there are those who trust me;
I would be pure, for there are those who care;
I would be strong, for there is much to suffer;
I would be brave, for there is much to dare.
I would be friend to all, the foe, the friendless;
I would be giving, and forget the gift;
I would be humble, for I know my weakness;
I would look up, and laugh and love and lift.
