Request: Redraw as SVG. (Be very careful when your are licensing the logo. Eg here).--Kkm010 | Talk with me 09:53, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Can it be done ?, please look after this image.--Kkm010 | Talk with me 06:05, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
For official logos, we can't simply "convert them to SVG". I'm not sure how much you know about the process and graphic programs. But you can't simply make a conversion like if you were turning a CD into MP3 format. gifs, pngs, and jpegs are all what we call "Raster" or pixel images. SVG is vector. It's similar to say MP3 vs. MIDI, if you are familiar with that. Raster images contain information on what color every individual pixels should be. Vector images contain mathematical information on how to 'redraw' an image. While some software contains "autotrace" options, the results are usually subpar, or at least not exact duplicates. Users are often able to hand-trace certain images with better results, but the result is still not an exact duplicate. Corporations pay thousands and thousands of dollars on branding. They hire graphic experts to pick out specific spot colors, typefaces, which may contain unique adjustments and letter spacing, and make illustrations for logotypes. So the best we can do on the graphics lab is to search the internet for already existing official vector sources (say a PDF that contains the logo), and we can extract that data and resave it as an SVG. We can't simple redraw the graphic because we will introduce errors and produce cheap knock off logos, regardless how skilled we are at graphic programs. Take for example this logo here, look at the red line which is making the woman's hair in the illustration. It has cracks and a rough edge. There is simply no way for us to take an image that small and trace or redraw around the red hair to recreate the exact same effect. It's akin to asking for us to upload a clip from a Nirvana song, and instead we go out and record a cover version from scratch and try to pass it off as the original. We may have found very similar guitar tones, and we might know the all the notes in the song, and found a guy that sounds like Kurt Cobain, but it still isn't the original. This is why some of your requests simply cannot be fulfilled (or why editors are reluctant to do so). It may help if you put in some of the legwork and search the internet for already existing vector logos that simply need extracting from a PDF or something like that. But we need to also accept that some logos may not have official vector versions available. In cases like that, we might be able to contact the company directly and see if they can provide us with one, or if not, accept that some images aren't going to be in SVG (in fact, some images can't be in SVG because they may have originally been created with raster information embedded in the logo). And since most, if not all of this content is non-free, and thus has a very, very limited scope within the free encyclopedia, all time and effort put into working on non-free content has very minimal pay off, because it often cannot be used cross-wiki, cannot be used by our mirrors, cannot be modified by future users, cannot be reused, cannot be used commercially, and can't be used on multiple articles, etc. Sorry if this is a bit much, but it seems like you are getting frustrated that some of your requests aren't being handled, and I thought you deserved an explanation. -Andrew c [talk] 13:51, 26 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

6 months. ShepTalk 21:58, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That's just approximate, though. Could be shorter or longer, of course, depending on complexity, and reluctance to help - but that's just my opinion.  Begoon•talk 22:10, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
What! it would take 6 months to do these 4 logos are u guys kidding or what. Come on please guys try to make it little faster. Look guys if i would have known how to do this stuff i would do it myself, since i have no idea and its bit strenuous therefore I'm reluctant to provide any help. But please make it little faster i have posted it long ago.--Kkm010 | Talk with me 04:17, 30 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Speaking for myself, no, I wasn't kidding - but I'm just one of many here. Personally, I'll put in effort for anyone provided they try to help me to help them to a reasonable level, and there are lots of that type of request that I feel my limited time is better spent on. Someone else may not care about the fact that you are not prepared to do anything to help yourself, despite repeated requests, finding it too "strenuous". I hope so.  Begoon•talk 06:50, 30 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Request: It would be nice to have an SVG version of this system map of Guangzhou Metro. Chinese may not be something easy to deal with, so probably Chinese texts are not needed since the article uses Chinese only once except in the references. (But please nevertheless leave some "hooks" for texts in the produced SVG so that it can be adapted without major difficulties for the Chinese Wikipedia.) Also, the use of various logos look like WP:COPYVIO to me. But I am not absolutely sure about the policy regarding use of logos of Chinese state-run businesses. The brain rotated 90 degrees within the head is disquieting. (Maybe some readers don't recognize the rotation and think that the illustration is correct?) Please redraw the head turned in the correct direction. (Losing the long hair is minor in comparison!) For an example of a more correctly drawn head-with-brain, see illustration at right. For me personally, I'd rather not modify a PNG file in this way. They don't scale well, and any edits made can be quite difficult to look right (particularly for colour changes if lines are anti-aliased). Had it been a vector graphic (like the example you pointed out), I would have done the switch a few days after this had been posted. gringer (talk) 12:44, 17 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Request: remove border... Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 02:03, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Graphist opinion(s): Please clarify: do you need the white border removed? If so, there is a problem because the mini-globe "the west" intrudes into the border. If you mean to remove the black line around the picture, that shouldn't be hard, but is it really that intrusive? --Slashme (talk) 06:53, 22 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No, just the black keyline frame. Well, but when you put it in an article, the frame added doubles and is uneven. Not intrusive, but because it is uneven, unencyclopedic.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 10:39, 28 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Unnecessary black stripes removed, "The West" earth pulled a little bit toward right, left cropped exactly 16 px so that the original pixel matrix is unchanged and saved with maximum JPEG quality. There should be low information loss :-)   Done by Ras67 (talk) 17:53, 28 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, that is much better!--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 18:42, 28 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
