  • Could link Professionalism in association football for "become professional".
  • I'm mildly confused by " putting pressure on the Football Association to permit payments to players", if they had turned pro, does this mean they were breaking FA rules?

  • "As a result, the team were able to enter the FA Cup for the first time" also confused by this, these days of course it's open to plenty of amateur clubs. Was it the case that back in the day it was only open to professional clubs?
    • It was only open to amateur clubs, or at least to clubs who didn't make "illegal payments" (wages, bonuses) to players. Of course this also happened at other clubs (e.g. Darwen, Blackburn Rovers and Blackburn Olympic) but their owners were businessmen and owned local factories where the club's players worked, so they got around the system in terms of payments.   • "Burnley have played in the top four tiers of English football from" I'm guessing the point here is that they've never been relegated out of the top four tiers? I wonder how a non-football reader would find this concept as it's currently written.

  • " all four professional divisions of English football" vs "the top four tiers of English football" possibly worth reorganising to keep these together without having to address the same kind of idea twice but with different terminology.
  • Martin Tyler has an article so can be linked.
  • The lead image, whenever these are not shown in the "home" strip and not necessarily contemporaneous, I add "(pictured in X playing for England)" in the caption.
  • Where are the nationalities of each player referenced?

  • A lot of the dab names need commas (e.g. Steve Davis (footballer, born 1965).
  • Footnote A date format mdy instead of dmy.

  • Source spotcheck: #2, #3, #4, #5, #11, #12, #14, #48, #50, #52, #55 all check out
  • #13 Kelly's transfer is listed as 6,500
  • #35 gives caps as 311
    • Ahh, I see what's the problem. Soccerbase has included four apps in the other section (the 2008–09 Football League Championship play-offs), but this should only be three. The same problem occurs at ref 51 (Steven Thompson). E.g. the unofficial club fans website has also credited Jensen with 310 apps.
