Automatic, Supervised, or Manual: Semi-automatic but supervised. The first few edits will be supervised in AWB if they all appear satisfactory on the AWB screen and in a preview of the actual page.
Programming language(s): AutoWikiBrowser
Source code available: Runs on AWB
Function overview: Making large numbers of edits using AWB that would be incredibly tedious even to do semi-manually. Adding Navboxes to pages using AWB
Links to relevant discussions (where appropriate):
Edit period(s): User operated runs at unspecified intervals whenever usage of the bot is deemed necessary
Estimated number of pages affected: Anywhere between 100-~400 edits per run. Runs may be as close to two in one day and may not occur within weeks of eachother.
Exclusion compliant (Yes/No): Yes
Already has a bot flag (Yes/No): No
Function details: The first task for this bot will be to de-orphan the species pages at Copelatus by appending {{Navbox Copelatus}} to the pages like this. The future example of future tasks will be for the exact same purpose. Any future tasks will also be for adding Navboxes to pages. Consensus will be made for any and all additions before running the bot. It is possible that the bot will be used to speedily modify categories in the event of a category rename if the request is made. It may also be used in order to send messages for Wikipedia:WikiProject Wikify if requested. Ryan Vesey Review me! 02:49, 12 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Discussion
editThis request is far too broad: "making large numbers of edits using AWB that would be incredibly tedious even to do semi-manually" describes pretty much anything. The function description contains three unrelated tasks. And the initial task listed looks like it could use some discussion as to whether this gargantuan navbox you've created is really an effective navigational tool. Please pick one thing and revise the request; something along the lines of "Append an appropriate navbox to articles in a list, after consensus is formed for the addition" might work. - I do not understand how this is far too broad. I have stated 3 specific purposes it would be used for. Adding navboxes, modifying categories, and sending messages for WikiProject Wikify. Ryan Vesey Review me! 15:35, 12 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- You would have to create a separate BRfA for each task, you cannot request three all in one form. Rcsprinter (message) 15:42, 12 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- (edit conflict) a) that would be three BFRAs because these task has nothing common so the bot would need(?) three different trials, b) At least task 2 and 3 seem to be redundant to existing good bot and finally c) Anomie pointed to 'Function overview' which doesn't summarize 'Function details' really good... mabdul 15:44, 12 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- No, you requested permission to run a bot to do basically whatever you want, and described the first thing you intend to use it for and two examples of other things you might use it for in the future. Anomie⚔ 15:49, 12 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- I was under the impression that the initial overview was intended to be vague with the actual details listed in "Function details" determining what can or cannot be done. That being said, I have modified my BRfA accordingly. Prior to continuing discussion, I will ensure that there is clear consensus for my suggested edit. Since it is an obscure topic, does anyone have a suggestion of the best place to seek consensus? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ryan Vesey (talk • contribs) 15:58, 12 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- The overview should be concise, not vague. Since the task has to do with insects, WT:WikiProject Insects would be a good place to start. Anomie⚔ 18:59, 12 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The initial task (adding the navbox) seems fine. The future navbox additions will need to be approved by the relevant Wikiproject prior to operation, but I don't see why we can't go ahead and approve them, assuming all else remains the same. Approved for trial (20 edits). Please provide a link to the relevant contributions and/or diffs when the trial is complete. Anomie is correct in that the other tasks (which you've since crossed out) will need separate BRFAs. Hersfold non-admin(t/a/c) 15:07, 14 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Actually, while I have only received discussion from one person, there doesn't appear to be consensus for my addition. I will be modifying the navbox or creating new ones when I receive the subgenera information and may then need the Bot approval. Ryan Vesey Review me! 15:35, 14 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Withdrawn by operator. I don't need this one, submitting a new one. Ryan Vesey Review me! 05:21, 22 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
