Why can't I edit some particular pages?
Some pages that have been vandalized repeatedly are semi-protected, meaning that editing by new or unregistered users is prohibited through technical measures. If you have an account that is four days old and has made at least 10 edits, then you can bypass semi-protection and edit any semi-protected page. Some pages, such as highly visible templates, are fully-protected, meaning that only administrators can edit them. If this is not the case, you may have been blocked or your IP address caught up in a range block.
Where can I experiment with editing Wikipedia?
How do I create an article?
See how to create your first article, then use the Article Wizard to create one, and add references to the article as explained below.
How do I create citations?
  1. Do a search on Google or your preferred search engine for the subject of the Wikipedia article that you want to create a citation for.
  2. Find a website that supports the claim you are trying to find a citation for.
  3. In a new tab/window, go to the citation generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out as many fields as you can about the website you just found.
  4. Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
  5. Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like <ref> {{cite web | .... }}</ref>, copy the whole thing).
  6. In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied.
  7. If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:
==References==
{{Reflist}}
What is a WikiProject, and how do I join one?
A WikiProject is a group of editors that are interested in improving the coverage of certain topics on Wikipedia. (See this page for a complete list of WikiProjects.) If you would like to help, add your username to the list that is on the bottom of the WikiProject page.

Tha Myat

edit

Thanks very much for your contributions to the article. It's a good addition to Wiki, which needs more Myanmar-related articles. And I welcome your efforts. Thank you.

Now, the article does need reliable citations. Also, please add relevant facts; the article doesn't have to cover every single aspect of his life. I'm not sure if the scientist info box is appropriate for this self-taught linguist--(not that there's anything wrong with that; but he should be held to the same standard as any trained linguist). The article should discuss why his works are still notable--for example, have any of his linguistic books been peer-reviewed?

A few more guidelines:

  • Please omit Burmese honorifics like "U" except in very few cases like U Nu and U Saw. We're not being disrespectful to them just because we don't use U Tha Myat. It's the English Wiki, and we should follow the rules. On Burmese Wiki, we should certainly use ဦးသာမြတ် (U Tha Myat).
  • I've changed "Myanmarsar" or "Myanmar" to Burmese. If we must follow the 1989 name change law, then we'll need to use Myanma as the adjective form of Myanmar in English.
  • Pali words such as Dekkhina (Standard Pali: Dakkhina) should be Romanized as a single word--well, because it's a single word. I've noticed that a lot of Burmese speakers don't seem to differentiate a word and a syllable. I suspect that it's because our language is largely monosyllabic, and most people seem to assume every syllable is a word. But it's not true with every language; languages like English and Pali are polysyllabic. Even Burmese, a largely monosyllabic language, contains many polysyllabic words--like Htamin (cooked rice; not Hta Min) or Padi (rosary, not Ba Dee). Those polysyllabic Burmese words should be transliterated/Romanized as polysyllabic words.

Hope this helps. Please continue to contribute to this and other articles. Thank you. Hybernator (talk) 20:17, 31 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

I'm sorry for my late reply.

(1)First of all, you don't need to thank me for my contributions. I'm just doing this for my own sake.

(2)I would like to thank you you for your contributions. At first, I didn't know how U Tha Myat's father name was spelled. My spelling was wrong and you fixed it.Thank you.

(3)I do understand that this article needs more references. But I don't know how to search them. And I have some difficulties. I tried to download a file from a website. As you know, Internet connection here was not good, my downloads were failed, and finally that site banned me. But I'm trying.

And I can't use some facts as references. Example Case: Well, a person brought Copy of Than Dwe Pyu Inscription to U Tha Myat. But that person copied only one face of the inscription. The inscription has 3 faces. I can't call U Tha Myat as discoverer of Than Dwe Pyu. I must specify him as the discoverer of the first face of Than Dwe Pyu.

(4)I have something to tell you about scientist infobox. I used it not because I want to remove your edits but because I think I should use it. I edited myan:scientist infobox before you edit U Tha Myat's page. You'll see if you check the page's history.

(5)I wasn't sure whether I should use that infobox or not. So, I searched the meaning of linguistics on internet. I found that Linguistics is the scientific study of language. That's why I used it.

(6)Using scientist infobox means that I'm trying to expand the article into scientist article format. Don't worry about peer review. I'm on it.

(7)I didn't add the name of the subjects he studied in the article, because I had difficulties in translating them into en. Well, this makes you think he's a self-taught linguist. I apologize for this.

(8)In English-Myanmar dictionary, U is expressed as a honorifics. You're right. This is english wiki. Of course, we have to follow the rules.I understand.

But U is not Mr. U is just age indicating factor. And this is only 2nd ed of En-Myan dictionary. Third edition will be different.

(9)1989 name change Law? Yes, I heard of it. But I have read only a part of it, not all the contents of the law. I know that Khin Nyunt changed Bamar in national anthem into Myanmar in 1989. But that's all I know about the law.

But, Myanmar belongs to only one nationality, and Bamar is the word which really belongs to all the nationalities in the country.

I will follow the truth whatever the law is.

(10)Chineses call Yangon as Yan Kwan. Between two languages, what we exchange is just pronunciation, not meaning. Bo Mhu Ba Shin said that. And I agree with him.

Whether ဒက္ခိဏ is a single word or not should be expressed in its definition, not in the spelling of the word itself.

So, I translate the words as I pronounce.

Well, I want to thank you again for your edits. Yin May Lwin (talk) 12:49, 8 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Min Ko Naing, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page National Order of Merit. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

ESEAP Conference 2018

edit

Hello Yin May Lwin,

I’m Irvin from PhilWiki Community, a member of the Communication Committee of the ESEAP Conference. ESEAP Conference 2018 is a regional conference for Wikimedia communities throughout the ESEAP region: ESEAP stands for East, Southeast Asia, and Pacific. Taking place in Bali, Indonesia on 5–6 May 2018, this is the first regional conference for these Wikimedia communities.

East and Southeast Asia and the Pacific are the most under-represented regions within the Wikimedia community. There is a significant number of Wikimedia contributors in our regions, yet we continue to struggle in establishing a well-managed community. This conference will bring participants from various ESEAP communities together in order to better understand the issues and to look for solutions. It also aims to connect people of the Wikimedia movement within ESEAP regions, to share ideas, and to build regional collaborations that are impossible to achieve through online communication.

We’ve got a lot of participation from several countries, but we’re lacking from your country. As we need more participants from your country, we believe that your contribution and participation would be a valuable asset to the success of this event. If you would like to participate in the conference, please do fill the form as soon as possible (by April 5, 2018) and we’ll inform you if you get selected for the conference.

Thank you and we hope to see you soon. --Filipinayzd 16:10, 29 March 2018 (UTC)
