Irfan Pathan under GA review edit

Hi there, I see that you are a primary contributor to the article Irfan Pathan. This article has come under review for Good article reassessment as part of GA Sweeps and ther is one small problem that I have identified, listed on the GA review page. Please address this point in the next seven days or the article may be delisted from GA and will have to go through the GAN process all over again to regain its status once improvements have been made. If you have any questions, please drop me a line. By the way, I see you have a large number of sports-related GAs, it might be worth taking a little time to ensure that they are all up to GA standard and up to date, it'll save time for both of us later. Regards--Jackyd101 (talk) 16:50, 17 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sure. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 03:06, 18 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
And updated. And I do sweep my GAs and FAs every now and then. It's amazing how many improvements are always possible. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 07:49, 23 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'm sure you do, yours are a high-quality bunch of articles. Pathan is now fine and I have passed it happily. I've left comments at Murali Kartik but its basically the same problem. Please see to it (although don't feel pressured about the time limit, I know you'll get to it eventually).--Jackyd101 (talk) 17:36, 23 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
McCabe passed pretty comfortably and thanks for getting on these so quickly. Like I said before, there's no rush! Only articles that sit aorund for ages with no improvements after warnings get delisted and I am sure none of your articles fall into that category. I am certainly not interested in delisting any if I can help it. Well done, excellent work, thankyou.--Jackyd101 (talk) 08:54, 25 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
No problem, in fact both McCabe and Fingleton passed as they were when I reviewed them. Good luck with the reorganisation.--Jackyd101 (talk) 18:16, 1 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Bingle photos edit

Actually, I began to suspect that as soon as I finished uploading. I have sent the uploader a personal message and am waiting for a response from him, but I think you might be right here. I'm a bit of a novice still at uploading from Flickr and will have to be more critical about my assumption that people only upload images for which they hold the copyright. If nothing happens for a couple of days I will have to raise the matter, probably with the resulting deletion of all the images. I can't understand why anyone would release their images under Creative Commons upon request if they weren't the copyright holder, but again I think I might be assuming a bit too much in terms of their knowledge/sense. Sources edit

Hi Blnguyen. You wrote that "2 out of 3 references" I gave in the Indo-Greek article did not verify. I strongly dispute such an assertion. I own most of the reference material I have been using about the Indo-Greek, and all the references I give are in good faith. I suppose we might have differences in interpretation on some of the references, but that's no reason to slander me. I remember you removed once two references I had put in, but I reinstated them when I double-checked and verified they were proper. Could you kindly discuss precisely what references you have an issue with and stop the slandering? Cheers. PHG (talk) 05:57, 31 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi Blnguyen. By "slandering", I mean "making false accusations at someone", but there's no offense intended ...although I personnaly do feel quite offensed by your claim. I suggest we discuss the matter in detail, with books in hand when I am back from holidays. Cheers PHG (talk) 01:34, 1 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
Blnguyen, thank you for sticking with this situation. I feel that the problem will linger so long as PHG denies any wrongdoing. I keep coming upon numerous articles with the same pattern of unverified information propagated by PHG who apparently bends sources to fit his novel thesis.
Additionally, thank you very much for your help with Robert F. Kennedy assassination. I discovered that article in bad condition and suggested it to User:Fritzpoll as a training exercise for his admin training. Fritzpoll did a fantastic job repairing the article while skillfully handling those editors who had sought to include an over-abundance of fringe views. Jehochman Talk 02:05, 1 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
WRT RFK, I do have an interest in political intrigue, eg Arrest and assassination of Ngô Đình Diệm, so that was relatively unpainful to do that work. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 07:22, 1 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'll be glad to discuss the specific issues Blnguyen may have. Jehochman, what kind of "novel thesis" would you have in mind? By now, I think it has been established that the Franco-Mongol alliance is a real historical phenomenon (however short-lived, minimal or abortive, depending on the authors), and I have given numerous historians who do describe the capture of Jerusalem by the Mongols (a fact you specifically doubted if I remember well). Is there any else? Cheers PHG (talk) 06:53, 1 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

No, I'm not going anywhere, at least at this stage. Work has been very busy (and stressful) making me more than usually cranky at the moment. I have been spending a bit of time over at Commons sorting Australian images; means I don't have to deal with people! My enthusiasm for all thing Wiki is still not where it was and sometimes I feel that I am on a different page than the rest of the encyclopedia, but I'll get over it. I certainly haven't given up on the Invincibles FT. Give me a week or two and I will back at the coal-face. Looking at Sehwag's efforts via CI, the man is a bit of a freak! Suspected hoax article edit

Hi. I was just wondering whether you could check out Lý Long Tường and see for yourself whether the article as it stands is a hoax. Although the historical figure described probably exists, I have strong reasons (mostly geographic) to believe that a large proportion of the article is simply blatant pseudo-history. I noticed that most, if not all, of the sources are from communist regimes or their agencies.

You might also want to check out Vietnamese people in Korea. The first section of this article also seems to be gibberish; fortunately, the rest seems plausible. David873 (talk) 10:09, 6 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hello edit

I've read the article Citadel of Saigon, It's a great and amazing article. There some images that you can use in this article (all are in PD):

I don't know where can I put them into, so I give they to you. Hope they will help you improve the article.--Xvn (talk) 13:34, 12 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for that Xvn, and thanks for pitching in. On another note, do you know of pictures of Phan Dinh Phung and Truong Dinh where the author is known? I need to know the date when the pictures were made so that the PD is certain so that it can be used for featured article (bài viết chọn lọc). Blnguyen (bananabucket) 02:59, 18 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

All books, which my library has, haven't any descrition about these pictures (no caption), so I have made a request here, this member living near Tiền Giang (Trương Định Mausoleum is located in Gò Công, Tiền Giang), she has promised she will help and take a picture of Truong Dinh soon. About pcitures of Phan Dinh Phung, I will go to HCM City Library next week, I think they will have some book which use there pictures with captions.--Xvn (talk) 06:26, 21 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

RE:Steve Waugh edit

I'll still be expanding this. You're welcome to do so as well, of course. POV in Indian articles edit

Hi there is an IP address probably from India which is wreaking havoc with some of the Bollywood articles. See his contributions. He persistently keeps adding POV to an article or glorifying an actor or film further than they or it actually is. It is a major nuisance for the editors on here who work on Indian cinema articles to have to keep reverting him day in day out just to maintain some sense of article neutrality. He has been warned many times and his persistence has resulted in edit conflicts on more than just a few articles. Could you please warn and/or block him and try to make him aware of wikipedias neutrality and why his edits which are intent on putting POV or glorifying the subject of the article unnecesarily may be construed as against policy and therefore vandalism. Its doing my nut it keeping track of him. User:Shshshsh (Shahid) raised my awarenss of it initially and other editors such as totalfilmi99 have to keep reverting him e.g here. Should he be blocked do you think? This is an exmaple of the kind of crap he keeps putting in articles ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 17:04, 28 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I'll talk to him. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 06:12, 30 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Help needed edit

Hey Bln! How are you? I'm very busy nowadays (I'm on vacation), so I'm a bit irregular on here.

Zhanzhao (talk · contribs) (202.128.188.103) keeps reverting me on Phir Hera Pheri. He added that the film was inspired by some Hollywood film - and it's fine by me obviously as long as sources are cited. The problem is the way in which he insists to write it. He is just too keen to make the film look bad, to show it in a negative light etc. I'd warned him but he kept doing the same, using words with negative connotation. I tried a "remake", tried a "based on" - but he's still at the same. Now I've changed it to "heavily inspired" - I hope to see both sides happy, but I'm expecting him to do the same, so I turn to you for help.

On a more lightened note, I've gone through your list of FAs, and I must say I'm heavily inspired (LOL) and I think you did a wonderful job with each. The articles are so well written, and I particularly enjoyed reading the short ones (eg this and this and this). It's amazing to see how short and at the same time comprehensive and impressive an article can be.

Hope you're doing well, ShahidTalk2me 13:35, 29 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

User:Nishkid64 fully protected the article. Nonetheless, I feel this should be somehow or somewhere discussed to prevent any such cases in the future. A considerable number of Hollywood films is remade in India - we should come to some clear decision on how it's best to write that in WP articles. ShahidTalk2me 15:46, 29 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Well, the word "remake" seems to imply that it is an meant to be seen as a new version/interpretation, if it is just a director/writer who is taking a "Free ride" then I don't think that using the term "remake" is appropriate, or "unauthorised remake" which is quite perjorative language. Simply noting that there has been criticism for unoriginality or flagrant plagiarism is the way to go I think. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 06:17, 30 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Page moves edit

Hello, would you please take a look at this page history? This is disconcertingly Jacques Nguyen like. I had reverted a move to lower-case "dynasty," which is against WP style, and it was immediately reverted. I think this needs correcting and hope you can help. The editor, whom I believe to be an old editor who has started a new account, is also changing numerous dates at Vietnam history templates, something Jacques and his puppets used to do often. Is it possible that Jacques has a new account and IP address? It's very bothersome. Badagnani (talk) 17:35, 2 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi again, I added a sock template and he said, "What is this?" I thought you knew for sure. If you know for sure, may I ask that you kindly please do something about it? I don't believe we can tolerate such violations of WP:SOCK; it's debilitating to everyone and saps our energy for innumerable hours. Badagnani (talk) 18:09, 4 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

"Thiru" -> DMulla et al. -> DHind101? edit

Hello, Blnguyen. I noticed that you banned User:DMulla as a sockpuppet of "Thiru."

Now there is another User:DHind101 who appears to be making very similar edits (note also the similarity between usernames). Could he be another sockpuppet of "Thiru"?

Also, out of curiosity, who is "Thiru"? Thirumalai nayakar a.k.a. PONDHEEPANKAR? --Kuaichik (talk) 04:12, 4 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ouch. Actually I can't even remember his name properly so I abbreviated but I couldn't even remember that the first part of his name is "Thileep" and not "Thiru" :( But here are the details. Wikipedia:Requests_for_checkuser/Case/DWhiskaZ and [[Wikipedia:Requests_for_checkuser/Case/Thileepanmathivanan]. He has more than 200, probably 400+ throwaway socks, and note that all the guys in my blocking log in teh past month that I tagged as "Mujahideen54" are also the same guy. I haven't bothered to tag the socks. PONDHEEPANKAR is a Tamil in India. Thileep is in Canada. Also note that Thileep usually calls his socks similar names and tends to create userpages for his socks with the same things like "=*=" and "==" and so forth. I guess he is doing the same style like psychopathic serial killers who always kill their victims in the same way and decorate the body in the same way to taunt police and so forth so it's not like he's trying to hide or anything. But as for myself, I'm not bothering to get wound up about his rubbish, I just revert and block. If you spot anything then just some right here. Appeal to adjudication ctte edit

help needed! edit

Hullo Blnguyen,

I've got two things to ask you to look into, as you seem a very active sort of editor! Bananas in it too maybe... (alas only virtual ones...)

'My friend' has been blocked and suspects it is the result of an improper both 'on' and 'off-wiki' conspiracy. However, when he appealed, the appelas were turned down by someone he had had disputes with 'on-Wiki', and secondly, by someone who cited a quite different reason for the block than the original one. He would like the arbitration committee to look at the issue, but does not know how to do this, handicapped by being blocked and so on.

The second thing he is concerned about is the considerable amount of personal slurs, certainly violating grossly principles of 'civility', certainly violating BLP and (IMO but no one is going to court here!) even literally libels.. As a 'blocked user', he cannot edit the pages so these all stay in place. How just is that?

If you can advise, please contact me - preferably by email, for privacy reasons. I can send you the text of his proposed appeal to the Arb Comm if that helps.

The original block was ostensibly for BLP violations relating to a post he made on the Admn noticeboard noting several apparently related incidents, including the introduction of errors into articles in the process of adding 'footonotes' to certain products, the use of company names as usernames and the attribution of pictures to companies. At the time, no one complained of a BLP violation, yet a month later he was blocked without warning - indefinitely.

Thanks!
