editThank you so much for doing the copyedit.
Regarding your request, I've when through the names.
Can you look through the article again and let me know if their could be any other adjustments.
When you asked about FAC, do you mean a featured article class?
If so, yeah it would be cool to get it to that, hopefully.
ATC . Talk 20:57, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
- But, how I am supposed distinguish in the filming section with the executive producers: Tim Draper, Polly Draper, Michael Wolff. If you said only last name if it is consistance. Would look like: Tim Draper, Draper, Wolff. Tim Draper is Polly's brother, so thats why I did: (Draper's brother) Tim, Ms. Draper, Wolff. Do you know a better way of wording it? ATC . Talk 00:20, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
- If they are used in close proximity, then first names will have to be used to disambiguate them, or by using thing's like "Draper's brother" etc. YellowMonkey (cricket calendar poll!) 00:34, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
- Also, some of the producers information seems to be repeated twice. YellowMonkey (cricket calendar poll!) 00:34, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
- I've fixed that minor issue in the filming section, but what do you mean that some of the producers are repeated twice?
- If you are referring to the introduction section and the filming section, I had to indicate that Polly Draper wrote and directed the film in the introduction, but I had to put it in the filming section, because I was adding all of the crew there, in addition to Michael Wolff's role.
- But if you are referring to Polly Draper and Michael Wolff being both producers and executive producers, which is kind of odd to me too, but that is how it is credited on the screen.

Re:Able Archer
editYep. Problem is that I let a lot of things in RL go during the school year and now I am trying to get both my RL issues and Wikipedia issues out of the way at the same time. Additionally, I am trying to locate the older sources given in the article by Natebjones, but so far have had no luck with that endeavor. Be patient. TomStar81 (Talk) 10:47, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

Photo uploading
editI wanted to add pictures to the development section for The Naked Brothers Band: The Movie, but I don't want to cause copyright infringement. The first photo: [1]. The second photo: [2] The second photo thats title, "Michael Wolff, Alex Wolff, Polly Draper, Nat Wolff The Hamptons International Film Festival Closing Reception and Awards Presentation October 23, 2005". Third photo: [3]. Please let me know if its legal in this case, and if you could take care of copyright uploading, and if I should pay for one of the photos. ATC . Talk 20:31, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
- Well at the moment they are copyright. If you pay royalties for usage like a newspaper, it still won't be permissible because it would still be under copyright unless you buy the copyrights to it and then make it public domain. WP:FU wouldn't work here as the photos don't show anything hard to understand/visualise/iconic, unlike Thich Quang Duc, it's just a portrait and replaceable with a free image in theory (by metting them and taking a photo). IT would be easier if you tried emailing them/their agent and asking them nicely, most likely. YellowMonkey (cricket calendar poll!) 03:44, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
- But how do they not? Two indicates them winning the audiunce award. I will and know exactly who to contact. Thanx! ATC . Talk 15:54, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
Second opinion ?
editYM, Can you review the editing of these two recently created accounts: Ib40 (talk · contribs) and E6nvikas (talk · contribs) ? Both are SPAs creating various articles on an organization "EduCare India" (which is, at best, borderline notable) and adding references to its projects, internship programs and chief project director (Balljinder) on various unrelated articles. Some articles that the two have created:
- , i.e.india (Internship in EduCARE India) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
- EduCARE India (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

- Applied Research (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
- Ruraldevse (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
They have also spammed Intern, Seva, Educare etc. Some of the above have been redirected and some earlier creations, like File:Educare india logo.JPG, already deleted.
Besides issues of Notability, Walled Garden, Spam, COI (they claim to be friends and eVolunteers for the organization) and misrepresentation of sources (see Internship in India), they also seem to edit "in time blocks" - which makes me suspect sock-puppetry. If/when you have the time can you take a look if my suspicions are reasonable and suggest what (SPI, CSD, AFD ...) should be done ? I don't want to BITE genuinely new users on the one hand, but don't want want to expend too much time AGFing with spammers either. Thanks. Abecedare (talk) 05:51, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

Vietnam
editWhich of my sources is un reliable, and which fact I claim it supports is wrong?[[Slatersteven (talk) 14:35, 22 May 2009 (UTC)]]

- Karnow, p. 254-255 is the one YellowMonkey (cricket calendar poll!) 02:51, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
- I belive that my point was that you cannot find sources using just a word search, but that you cannot tell what the source actualy says. I should ave been clearer on that point. But as I had constantly said before that that I do not challenge the claim in article I assumed that it would be relaised that as I had said "Google Books doesn't support preview of that item, so again cannot be verified. In fact that whole of your book search suffers from this problom." tend to imply (again I should have been clearer) that I did not beleve that word searching in google books search is a relble source. pages 254-255 talk about the attitude of the US administratio to nation building and the question of greater intervention, no mention of any assasinations, perhaps you mis read the page numbers. [[Slatersteven (talk) 12:51, 26 May 2009 (UTC)]]
- I don't use a word search, snippets don't work, you need at least a full page. Also, with Karnow and most of my books, I use hardcopy. Are you working with the 1997 edition? I am YellowMonkey (cricket calendar poll!) 03:32, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

- I agree that snipets don't work that was my point, that using snipets you can find sources for facts you don't agree with, but oddly you were the only person to question its use (perhaps because you were not relying on snipets). The Copy of Karnow I am using (I assume you mean Vietnam a History) is the 1987 edition.[[Slatersteven (talk) 12:36, 28 May 2009 (UTC)]]
- My library has a 1983 version and it was about page 236-240 IIRC. But it is in the closing stages of the "America's mandarin" chapter in both 1983 and 1997 so I guess it should still be there in 1987. But just look at the back of the AM chapter and scroll backwards. YellowMonkey (cricket calendar poll!) 01:34, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

ARVN collective term
editIt seems like you and I are having a battle on this page - you keep undoing my edits. I don't have sources for why I know that it is a generic term but it's just something I've gathered over the years of reading various books. If you look at this wiki encyclopedia which is edited by University graduates and sorts. http://en.citizendium.org/wiki/ARVN You'll see that they say the same thing. Also I'm sure that you've read many books where they wrongfully slander the ARVN - I'm sure that you'll agree that they mean all the VNCH armed forces, when they say this. Also the Republic Of Viet Nam Navy is VNN not RVN - please don't undo this! ~ Annhoang —Preceding unsigned comment added by Annhoang (talk • contribs) 07:00, 23 May 2009 (UTC)
- If you mention that is (incorrectly) used generically, then it's fine if you have a source. Most people say "ARVN general" for land generals, I can remember maybe 1 out of 20 books that incorrectly referred to Ky as a "general" when he was an air force officer. YellowMonkey (cricket calendar poll!) 01:36, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
Cheers YellowMonkey. Yes I agree with you that it is incorrectly used. I've even read here where they've said "ARVN didn't include any VNN in this operation" implying that VNN was a part of the ARVN. http://books.google.com.au/books?id=1BN7s6DZGB8C&pg=PA55&lpg=PA55&dq=ARVN+didn%27t+provide+vnn&source=bl&ots=_w7zt7vqRM&sig=IBKv4mvFsebg4KW-rYmh_vCDpXg&hl=en&ei=MiYbSuenO5GVkAXf74TiDA&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1. Yes many books are incorrect about the Vietnam War, but I find that in recent years, a lot of former RVN soldiers are beginning to tell their story with media outlets such as the internet - so hopefully more of the truth will be made public.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Annhoang (talk • contribs)

Re: Socks
editThank you! I'm fine, thanks, and still around after almost 4 years, and after almost leaving a few times. I noticed your battle awhile back, and agree with others that you aren't quite ready for the glue factory yet. And I also appreciated a somewhat veiled reference you made to the mess, and the fallout, from the India editors brouhaha a couple years back. There are still some good people here, including yourself, so it's still worthwhile. Best regards, Priyanath talk 01:53, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
- Oh, someone understood my cryptic reference! I thought it was pretty obvious but some folks didn't notice. Unfortunately for any subcontinent Wikiprojects or Wikipedias, I don't think there is much hope, because of the average outlook of the editors. At the moment there are no disputes but once a few people come again, the the disputes and riots will start all over again. With the average attitude in this area, it takes very little to spark axe-grinding and long term harassment, usually all pretty subtle, but pretty obvious to anyone who has spent a few hours here. Some will burst into major bloodletting. And all over ego as well, POV differences are never the real cause of the dispute. Did you know that at the end of 2006 two guys had a fight over who would be the "head" of the Indian IRC channel and then they emailed a lot of people saying how the other guy was a double-dealer etc etc, and then they split into two IRC channels..... YellowMonkey (cricket calendar poll!) 03:32, 28 May 2009 (UTC)
- It was cryptic enough that I think only someone involved would have got it, and there aren't many of us left here. Well, the most productive WikiProjects are the ones with the most harmony and the least ego, but the internets aren't exactly conducive for that, nor are national WikiProjects with countless regions/groups/castes/religions. I think India is truly a miracle as it is. And no, I didn't know about the IRC dispute, which makes me even more happy that I never use it.... Priyanath talk 05:20, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
