December 2009 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Donmeh West has been reverted.
Your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline from Wikipedia. The external link you added or changed is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. I removed the following link(s): http://gyllenegryningen.blogspot.com/2009/03/sabbatian-roots-of-golden-dawn.html (matching the regex rule \bblog(?:cu|fa|harbor|mybrain|post|savy|spot|townhall)?\.com\b). If the external link you inserted or changed was to a blog, forum, free web hosting service, or similar site, then please check the information on the external site thoroughly. Note that such sites should probably not be linked to if they contain information that is in violation of the creator's copyright (see Linking to copyrighted works), or they are not written by a recognised, reliable source. Linking to sites that you are involved with is also strongly discouraged (see conflict of interest).
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! --XLinkBot (talk) 16:52, 18 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

  1.   Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, one or more of the external links you added such as to the page Donmeh West do not comply with our guidelines for external links and have been removed. Wikipedia is not a collection of links; nor should it be used as a platform for advertising or promotion, and doing so is contrary to the goals of this project. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia.

Welcome to Wikipedia edit

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia! I see you've done some nice work on the Donmeh West article. Thanks for your contributions. If you have any questions about Wikipedia, I'd be delighted to try and answer them. I've been on Wikipedia for more than a year and have made 3000+ edits to Wikipedia and its sister projects. BTW, are you affiliated with Donmeh West, and also, are you the real Yaakov Leib HaKohen? I've visited Donmeh West's site. I really admire the group's efforts to connect the Turkish Donmeh with modern people interested in Sabbateanism, and to encourage people to be proud of Sabbateanism rather than ashamed.

I myself am a fairly normative Ashkenazi Jew by upbringing, and I think Shabbetai was awesome! He and his "holy sins" give me so much joy. In fact, they make me more interested in Judaism and prouder to be a Jew. Right now, I'm reading a book about him, The Lost Messiah by John Freely, which I'm enjoying very much. Shabbetai was amazingly creative and totally uninhibited about it, which I really think he should get credit for. He wrote my Number One favorite bracha, "Blessed are you, Lord our God, who allows what is forbidden." Do you know where I can find the Hebrew version of this Bracha? Also, I wonder if sin is ever a good thing. For example, I definitely support what Eve did in the Torah, re: eating the fruit of knowledge.

One more question about Shabbetai. He seems to have been very interested in fasting, praying and committing holy sins. However, I'm not reading anything about how he devoted himself to social justice, which surprises me a bit. Do you know what he did in this area? Also, do you know how he and other Sabbateans interpret a Tanakh passage about social justice I find very interesting, Isaiah 1:14-17 "Your New Moon festivals and your appointed feasts my soul hates. They have become a burden to me; I am weary of bearing them. When you spread out your hands in prayer...I will not listen...learn to do right! Seek justice, encourage the oppressed. Defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow." Thanks, AFriedman (talk) 18:55, 18 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

  1.   Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Donmeh West. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it.

Something else for you edit

Here's a template, something else you can add to pages (Talk and otherwise) on Wikipedia. I hope you like this particular one, which makes me think of the Donmeh West's "redemption through sin" webpages. Do you know how to leave people messages on their Talk pages, by the way? Go to the Talk page and click the "edit" tab when you're on that page. --AFriedman (talk) 04:31, 20 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi. I'm not sure if I'm doing this correctly. I love the pork pie -- not for it's savory ingredients, but for its even-more savory sentiment; and (although touched by that sentiment) I'm afraid I must decline to eat it, not because it's traif, but because I'm a vegetarian. Yalhak [p.s. If you get a chance, let me know if I left you this note correctly, or if there is a better way to do it -- of if you even got it at all.]

Hi Yalhak! Thanks for the thank you note. Yes, you are doing this correctly, and I got your message both on my own Talk page and on yours. BTW, I'm a vegetarian too!  :) Also, if you want to learn more about how this site works, you may want to look at the links in the welcome message at the top of this page, or go take the tutorial at another wiki called WikiEducator. Happy Holidays, too! --AFriedman (talk) 22:58, 24 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Mentioning Wikipedia in articles edit

Hi. Please do not mention Wikipedia in articles, unless a reliable source has information about it. Wikipedia itself is not a reliable source and should not be cited as such. Please see WP:ASR. Thank you.   — Jeff G.  ツ 02:27, 5 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. I understand. Should the occasion arise, I will not do again. Yalhak

Thanks edit

Thanks for your great contributions on Yakov Leib HaKohain. I didnt expect that article would be expanded like this.--Abbatai 12:30, 5 August 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Abbatai (talkcontribs)

You're welcome. Thank you for contributing it in the first place. Yalhak

User:JacobFrank edit

Apparently, some people found this Username unacceptably offensive. See User talk:IZAK. So I've had to retire him. BTW, the wording I use is what I saw on the Wikipedia Jacob Frank article. Different translations of what he wrote in Polish, Hebrew or some other language, I guess. I think redemption through sin would be a very interesting new article of its own--IMO, the associated link in the Jacob Frank article is misleading because it doesn't capture all of it--and there are ways to get new articles up on the front page of Wikipedia. Where can I find information about it, in its various formulations (Frank's, yours, etc.)? --La comadreja formerly AFriedman RESEARCH (talk) 13:24, 14 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Did you know edit

Thanks for the info. I've just created a new article about Harris Lenowitz and placed it on Template talk:Did you know, so it could be considered as one of the "newest articles" and a fact from it can go on the main page. Just wanted to share that with you. --La comadreja formerly AFriedman RESEARCH (talk) 18:57, 17 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the admirable article about Lenowitz. Harris and I have been out of touch for the past couple of years. Now I know why. Stay in touch as your time permits. I'm always glad to hear from you. Yalhak (talk) 18:40, 18 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

p.s. i'm not sure what it means when you say, "I placed it on Template talk:Did you know, so it could be considered as one of the "newest articles" and a fact from it can go on the main page." I'll understand if not, but if you get a chance, could you explain to me what all that means? Yalhak (talk) 19:07, 18 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

haven't been able to reply to yr last email. rescued a 5 mo. old pup from neighbors. most of my limited attention focused now on him, my other two dogs and 4 cats. later.Yalhak (talk) 12:00, 28 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Some baklava for you! edit

Hello, this is for you. I could not find some "borek" as you mentioned one of your articles about AMIRAH and a dragon in Smyrna, so I send some baklava. Hope you will like it.:) Abbatai 13:20, 9 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open! edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
