Proposal for a Soft Plastic Recycling Company

Plastics are lightweight, inexpensive, and durable inorganic materials. They are molded in a variety of shapes to assist in sale and packaging of products in a variety of applications. Indeed, the plastic production has increased tremendously in the recent decades (NCBI, 2009). With this increase, therefore, the usage and disposal of plastic present several environmental concerns. For example, plastics are inorganic materials that do not undergo complete decomposition. This means the polymers used in plastics are deposited in the soil, they block soil pores, derail soil processes and hinder the plant and animal life. Also, the combustion of plastic release harmful gases, mostly greenhouse gases such as NOx, SOx, and COx, all of which lead to air pollution. Perhaps one way to deal with the environmental concerns of plastic usage and disposal is recycling. Recycling of plastic provides a classic incentive to reduce these impacts, and further represent a dynamic area in the plastic manufacturing industry. This proposal builds the planning and implementation phases of a soft plastic recycling company.

Planning Phase

The soft plastic recycling company will serve to turn waste and scrap plastic into new forms of plastics. Through recycling, it is possible to minimize carbon dioxide emissions, reduce oil usage, and further suppress the effects generated as a result of burning or buying inorganic plastic waste. The planning phase of the recycling company will feature a series of stages; all geared to enhance the scale and effectiveness of the recycling efforts. The first step is the collection of plastic waste from facilities such as supermarkets, retail outlets, and shops. This means the company will build collaborations with supermarkets and retail outlets; since a growing number of Australian citizens use these outlets for their shopping purposes. After collection, the next step will be to sort out various types of plastic in a recovery facility. This is because soft plastics come in various types which means that sorting makes it easy to assemble different types of plastics. The sorted plastics will also be compacted into portable balls and large bales using the baler machine. After baling, the assorted plastics will be washed to remove impurities like prints and branded oil labels. The cleaned plastics will be shred using a shredder (Sinobaler, 2017). They are fed into a shredder machine using a conveyor before they are crushed or shredded. The next stage will be to do chemical tests on the shredded plastics to identify and classify various plastic types. The final stage is to filter, melt, and extrude the clean plastics in the form of pellets. The pellets will then be transported to plastic manufacturing firms where new forms of plastics will be manufactured. Project Implementation

The company will purchase recycling equipment such as shredder, the conveyor feeder, and the combustion machine. The combustion machine will help in melting the shredded plastic pellets. As part of the implementation, the company will deploy a team of trained staff; mostly environmentalists, chemical engineers, and technicians to assist in handling and processing plastic waste products. The chemical engineers are responsible for identifying, processing, and classifying plastics through chemical tests. The environmentalists are responsible for quantifying the overall environmental effects on used plastics, and the effects of plastic combustion on air pollution. The technicians manage or regulate the equipment and to oversee key manufacturing processes in the recovery facilities. Influence on Purchasing

Recycling reduces the impact of disposed inorganic waste material such as plastics. It influences purchasing since consumers pay little for the recycled soft plastics. It also strengthens consumer relationships through better, convenient packaging and branding. Other than providing enterprises like supermarkets cheaper packaging options, recycling assists in meeting eco-safety and sustainability in Australia. Customers value businesses that show efforts to environmental sustainability and often take it as corporate social responsibility CSR (Noosa News, 2018). This proposal notes that the soft plastic recycling company will help strengthen relationships between enterprises and consumers. It will also minimize the carbon footprint by increasing the lifecycle of plastics and hence reducing disposal of inorganic waste.
