Proposed deletion of Horner Avenue

edit

The article Horner Avenue has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable, minor street in Toronto, and not a plausible redirect to another article.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Evans avenue and Evans Avenue

edit

Okay, putting aside whether these articles should even exist... you didn't need to create Evans Avenue after you already created Evans avenue. You could (and should in the future) move the article to the correct name. If you don't yet have permission to move an article, you can request a move (I can show you how). I have fixed it for now by turning the older article into a redirect to the new article (since there was no loss of contribution history as you have been the only contributor to those articles).

Also, why are you creating these articles if you are not disputing the PROD tag? If you aren't removing the tag, then you are not contesting the deletions (which means creating similar articles seems like a time-waster for everyone). If you think the articles should be kept, remove the PRODs and I will start a community deletion discussion about them. But don't keep creating similar articles if you aren't contesting the deletion... Singularity42 (talk) 18:33, 2 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

ok sorry about it I thought pages weren't case sensitive. Wiokipedia (talk) 18:34, 2 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment, or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button   located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Thank you. Singularity42 (talk) 18:37, 2 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

ok Wiokipedia (talk) 18:38, 2 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Also, you should indent your comments when replying (see WP:INDENT). If you have questions about how to do that, let me know. Singularity42 (talk) 18:39, 2 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
do you mean first typing a few spaces? Wiokipedia (talk) 18:40, 2 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
No, I mean using a colon. Edit this section and look before each comment. Your comment 'ok' has no colons in front of it. My reply has one colon in front of it, indenting it once. Your reply has two colons, indenting it twice. This reply has three colons, indenting it three times. It's how editors follow our discussions on talk pages. PROD of Horner Avenue and Evans Avenue

edit

Because you are still learning the ropes and going through Wikipedia's learning curve, I want to be as fair as possible. Do you disagree with my rational for deleting these two articles? Do you believe that Wikipedia's policies support the articles being kept?

  • If you think I am wrong and the articles should be kept then you need to remove the PROD deletion tags from both articles, which will be your indication that the deletions are contested. I will then move it to the next step and initiate a broader community discussion to see what the community consensus is (through a process called WP:AFD).
  • If you do not disagree with the articles being deleted then leave the tags up. Once seven days have passed since I tagged the articles, an administrator will delete the articles.

The reason I'm raising this is that you are still actively working on the articles (and you created Evans Avenue which is similar to Horner Avenue after I tagged the latter for deletion, without contesting that deletion). Singularity42 (talk) 18:51, 2 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

I believe that the articles can be kept. I believe arterial roads in Toronto can be made as an article Wiokipedia (talk) 18:53, 2 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you. Please see WP:ANI#User:Wiokipedia and WP:CIR. I've really tried to help and advise you, but you aren't listening to any of the other editor, and you keep creating new articles and making edits that are taking our time to clean up. Policy pages to read

edit

I want to gather in one spot the pages you need to read:

  • WP:GEOROAD. This is the policy page on whether Wikipedia has an article about a road or street. It's a couple sentences. You need to be familiar with it if you are going to focus on pages about streets. Note that having a gas station, showing up on Google Maps (or Google Streets), having a transit route, having the city's website about speed limits, etc., are not criteria listed in the policy page to have an article about a street.
  • WP:Notability. Okay, this is a much larger page, and you should read through it when you have time. At a minimum, be familiar with the part under WP:GNG, which are the basic rules about having a Wikipedia article on any subject.
  • WP:Reliable sources. You'll see how reliable sources come up a lot in those two pages. This page explains what that means. When people write books about the street, or there are are news stories about the street (the street itself, not something on the street), that will make it notable. These are called secondary sources. A transit schedule, a google map view, a bylaw about speed limits, are not secondary sources (they are primary sources).

Also, if you are going to focus on creating pages, please take a look at WP:AFC, which will help you on how to create a pages. I know you liked how the references were fixed, etc. on Horner Avenue, but you weren't sure who did it... well, I'm the one who fixed up that article for you (you need to look at the history tab of the article). But you need to be familiar with how to do it yourself if you are going to create articles again in the future, so please read WP:AFC. Singularity42 (talk) 18:21, 3 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

thanks for being nice enough for putting the articles I need to read together Wiokipedia (talk) 18:25, 3 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing certain namespaces ((Article)) for WP:CIR reasons, as reported at ANI.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  -- TNT (talk • she/her) 19:03, 3 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hi Wiokipedia. You can still suggest edits to current articles at an article's talk page. Once you show by your suggested edits you understand how to edit articles constructively and understand the underlying policies about notability and reliable sources, you can request an unblock from the main article space. Singularity42 (talk) 19:43, 3 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hello, Wiokipedia,
Just wanted to chime in here, Wiokipedia, but this block does not prevent you from creating articles in Draft space which is what most editors do. They either use Draft space or User space, like your Sandbox. Putting articles directly into the main space of the project makes them subject to review by one of our New Page Patrollers who evaluate it to see if it meets Wikipedia standards. Several of your pages did not, which is not surprising because you are a new editor. You should create and develop articles in either Draft or User space where you can work on them, improve them with references, etc. It is what I would consider a "safe space" to learn about how to create an article which is actually one of the most difficult things to do on Wikipedia.
When you think a draft article is finished, it's best to submit it to Articles for Creation where a reviewer can look over your work and give you feedback on whether or not it is ready to move to main space. They try to let you know if it is likely to be deleted if you put it in article space. This is the process that most new editors use as they learn about Wikipedia standards and policies.
And if you have questions about any of this, about article creation, about the very helpful advice editor Singularity42 is giving to you on your user talk page, bring your questions to the Teahouse which is a place where more experienced editors can offer you help and support. Good luck. Liz Read! Talk! 21:13, 3 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your recent contributions. Getting started creating new articles on Wikipedia can be tricky, and you might like to try creating a draft of your article in draftspace or in your userspace first, which you can then ask for feedback on if necessary, with less risk of deletion. Do make sure you also read help available to you, including Your First Article and the Tutorial. You might also like to try the Article Wizard, which has an option to create a draft version. Thank you. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 02:15, 15 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
