Image copyright problem with Image:West Forsyth High School3.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:West Forsyth High School3.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sherool (talk) 22:53, 20 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

New userboxes edit

I have deleted a userbox template you recently created, as userboxes should no longer be created in templatespace per the terms of the German userbox solution. Here is the userbox code so that you can recreate the userbox in your userspace ("userfying") if you wish.

<div style="float: left; border:solid {{{1|{{{border-c|black}}}}}} 1px; margin: 1px;">
{| cellspacing="0" style="width: 238px; background: {{{2|red}}};"
| style="width: 45px; height: 45px; background: {{{1|white}}}; text-align: center; font-size: {{{5|{{{id-s|14}}}}}}pt; color: {{{id-fc|black}}};" | '''{{{3|8BT}}}'''
| style="font-size: {{{info-s|8}}}pt; padding: 4pt; line-height: 1.25em; color: {{{info-fc|black}}};" | {{{4|This user is a '''[[8-Bit Theater|light warrior]]'''.}}}
|}</div>

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Albel Nox.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Albel Nox.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. MECUtalk 01:53, 4 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

ACE competition edit

Greetings! I am Shawn Pickrell and am the Commissioner of the Virginia High School League's Scholastic Bowl competition. You might be interested to know of (1) the existence of ACE-type programs in Virginia, many of which pre-date the Forsyth County ACE competition and (2) the existence of an independent tournament circuit in other parts of North Carolina (not sure if you are already aware of that.) I suspect one of the administrators in your neck of the woods heard of one of the Virginia ACE-style leagues and sought to create the same in Forsyth County. I would like eventually to create an overall "Academic Competition for Excellence" article and then several sub-articles on the various leagues in Virginia and West Virginia -- and I am certain other states have such leagues. Thank you, Shawn Pickrell 21:37, 5 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your reply. I figure there might be an introduction article for "Academic Competition for Excellence" and then links to each of the formats. Your addition to the quizbowl article was good as ACE is a significant variety of quizbowl, but it just needed to be made more "general." I will start up an article on ACE today and outline the similarities between the various formats. I can handle articles for the competitions in Virginia of course but just thought you might be interested to know of the existence of other leagues similar to the Forsythe ACE. I am not sure who was the first to develop an ACE-style competition. Take care, Shawn Pickrell 15:32, 6 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Intodarkness.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Intodarkness.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 18:50, 2 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

WikiProject North Carolina Newsletters edit

NEWSLETTER

News

Cape Lookout Lighthouse

Hello WikiProject North Carolina members! A few of us at the The Newsroom Team decided to get together and re-energize the project, through these newsletters. This newsletter is hopefully the first of many to come. We want this project to be active in creating and expanding articles related to our state. If you're a current or former resident of the state, we hope that you will help spread the knowledge of how much there is to learn about North Carolina.

  • A great way to expand new articles is by keeping track of the new articles list. Please add any new NC-related articles or older ones you come across that have not been tagged with the project banner. When you notice an article has been added to the list, read over it and check for citations, grammatical errors, and spelling. If you've written a NC-related article in the past 5 days, read the requirements for Did you know... and add your article to the DYK nomination list. It might be chosen for the Main Page!
  • If you see a new member added to the project list, a great idea would be to leave them a welcome message on their talk page. Show them we notice new members and that we want them to become active participants.
  • If you have any questions in regards to the project, feel free to contact someone from The Newsroom Team. Thanks for all of your hard work and happy editing!

Fair use rationale for Image:Browardschools.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Browardschools.jpg. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have any questions, please post them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

Thank you for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 17:11, 22 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Notification of automated file description generation edit

Your upload of File:Careercenter.jpg or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. In order to help make better use of the media, an attempt has been made by an automated process to identify and add certain information to the media's description page.

This notification is placed on your talk page because a bot has identified you either as the uploader of the file, or as a contributor to its metadata. It would be appreciated if you could carefully review the information the bot added. To opt out of these notifications, please follow the instructions here. Thanks! ArbCom elections are now open! edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Proposed deletion of Academic Competition (WSFCS) edit

The article Academic Competition (WSFCS) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

A local educational competition that doesn't appear to be the subject of significant coverage; no references and none found.
