Confusion getting started

edit

Hi, welcome. I saw your cry for help.

I will speak frankly;

  • First alarm bell is, you said "our name". Wikipedia accounts are per person and cannot represent a group.

That said (and I hope you understand, it had to be said) - if you want to help improve Wikipedia, I'd be really happy to help you.

For more help, you can either;

  • Leave a message on my own talk page; OR
  • Put {{helpme}} at the end of this page, and ask your question OR
  • Talk to us live, with this or this.

The below message, whilst it is of course a 'template' standard greeting, does contain useful advice.

Welcome and introduction

Hi, Wayne James Sheppard. This is NOT some automated message...it's from a real person. You can talk to me right now. Welcome to Wikipedia! I noticed you've just joined, and wanted to give you a few tips to get you started. If you have any questions, please talk to us. The tips below should help you to get started. Best of luck!  Chzz  ►  02:13, 27 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

ようこそ
  • You don't need to read anything - anybody can edit; just go to an article and edit it. Be Bold, but please don't put silly stuff in - it will be removed very quickly, and will annoy people.
  • Ask for help. Talk to us live, or edit this page, put {{helpme}} and describe what help you need. Someone will reply very quickly - usually within a few minutes.
  • Edit existing articles, before you make your own. Look at some subjects that you know about, and see if you can make them a bit better. For example, Wikipedia:Cleanup#2009.
  • When you're ready, read about Your first article. It should be about something well-known, and it will need references.

Good luck with editing; please drop me a line some time on my own talk page.

There's lots of information below. Once again, welcome to the fantastic world of Wikipedia!

I'll answer your question

To add a wikipedia page that is headed by Wayne James Sheppard (without the word user in front of it), click on Wayne James Sheppard and type away. As for a biography format, 1. click on Wayne James Sheppard, 2, add "{{subst:Biography}}" (add everything between the " ", including the double brackets), 3. save. Then, 4. replace the Biography template text with the text Biography, references, etc. To get your photos to appear in Wikipedia, upload them into commons.wikimedia.org. Once you upload them into commons.wikimedia.org, post a note on my talk page and I'll show you how to get them to appear in Wikipedia. -- Uzma Gamal (talk) 03:54, 27 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

...but you might be best using the WP:WIZARD and making a draft.  Chzz  ►  04:01, 28 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
