Speedy deletion nomination of User:UCLanCyprus/sandbox

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on User:UCLanCyprus/sandbox requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://www.uclancyprus.ac.cy/discover/the-university/uclan-cyprus/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.  Velella  Velella Talk   10:39, 7 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Conflict of interest

edit

  Hello, UCLanCyprus. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. -- Ed (Edgar181) 12:59, 7 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Username

edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy or request a change of username.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose.

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text

{{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}

at the bottom of your talk page. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names.

 Thank you. -- Ed (Edgar181) 12:59, 7 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

I have been advised by a freenode member to follow this procedure UCLan Cyprus (talk) 13:46, 13 August 2020 (UTC)

Decline reason:

That choice of new username is equally unacceptable, as it just shortens the Cyprus of your current name. Please review the username policy and propose a new username that reflects the fact that a specific individual is exclusively operating this account(you don't need to use your real name or any proper name, just something unique to you personally). 331dot (talk) 13:52, 13 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

While not related to your block, you need to review conflict of interest and paid editing. 331dot (talk) 13:52, 13 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hello. Thank you for your reply. Will the username appear to the users? The reason I'm requesting a new username is because I want to create a new profile for UCLan Cyprus, which is a british university located in Cyprus. I hope the username I proposed this time is suitable. Awaiting for your reply. Thank you in advance! UCLan Cyprus (talk) 06:12, 18 August 2020 (UTC)

You won't be unblocked to do that. Yamla (talk) 12:42, 18 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

There is not a single "profile" on Wikipedia, we have articles. Those articles summarize what independent reliable sources with significant coverage state about subjects that meet Wikipedia's special definition of notability, in this case, the definition of a notable organization. Wikipedia has no interest in what an organization wants to say about itself. That's something you should do on social media or your organization's website. 331dot (talk) 15:02, 18 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
