One last request edit

Trödel, can I ask one last favor of you? Could you please create an archive of this IP address's current talk page (archiving off everything after the Template:sharedip and before the section titled "Restricted editing from this IP address")? Thanks again for all of your help over many years. -- 208.81.184.4 (talk) 21:33, 9 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thanks again. -- 208.81.184.4 (talk) 21:57, 9 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
You're welcome - as others have mentioned, your contributions will be missed. I'm sorry to see you go --Trödel 21:58, 9 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

August 2012 changes. edit

As mentioned on Talk: List of general authorities of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the changes in Area Leadership for 2012 have been announced. So, if you could please set up a page to hold these changes until they become official, as you have in past years, that would be appreciated. I would take care of it myself, but I don't know how to start a new page the way you've done it in the past. Thanks for taking care of this ASAP. --Jgstokes-We can disagree without being disagreeable (talk) 18:17, 14 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Since it is August 2, I took the liberty of copying the contents of the subpage and pasting it into the main article. Now all that needs to be done is that the page histories need to be merged. If you could take care of that for us, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. --Jgstokes-We can disagree without being disagreeable (talk) 19:40, 2 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hartford Connecticut Temple edit

As you appear to edit quite a bit on temples, would you mind looking at my comment at Template talk:LDS Temple/Hartford Connecticut Temple? I think the template needs to be tweaked and I'm not quite sure how to go about that. Thanks, 72Dino (talk) 20:03, 18 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

June 2012 edit

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is invited to contribute, at least one of your recent edits, such as the one you made to Sri Lanka, did not appear to be constructive and has been reverted or removed. Please use the sandbox for any test edits you would like to make, and read the welcome page to learn more about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. Thank you. You changed some space formatting. By doing so you entirely removed my last edit and reintroduced inappropriate wording that I had removed. Pls try to be more careful in the future. Mootros (talk) 13:29, 9 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Please provide diff evidence of such changing to wording that I made. I suggest you be careful in reviewing changes. --Trödel 19:29, 9 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
Dear Trödel, Thank you for contacting me about this on my talk page. I don't think you acted in bad intent, in any way. I polity asked you to me more careful. Yes, the template should have been avoided on my part, which I used in good faith, while not being aware that this is not considered good communication and that you are indeed a regular. I would like to use this opportunity to thank you for your long-term effort and contribution to our community and wish you all the best, Mootros (talk) 12:00, 10 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thank you! I have reviewed your recent contributions and am impressed by the work you do - thank you for your contributions to wikipedia as well!!! --Trödel 02:31, 11 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Place holder images edit

Trödel, thank you for your reversions. However, they are not in keeping with the consensus that was developed project wide (see WP:IPH). Place holder images have been deprecated for years now, and tens of thousands of them have been removed from use on the project over the last several years. Please see Wikipedia:Image placeholders. The last holdouts on them are File:Project Trains no image.png and the one in use by this wikiproject, File:Replace this image - temple.png. Further, please be aware of WP:LOCALCONSENSUS. To wit, "participants in a WikiProject cannot decide that some generally accepted policy or guideline does not apply to articles within its scope." If you would, please point to the project wide consensus that shows Wikipedia:WikiProject Latter Day Saint movement is exempt from the decisions the project has made with regards to place holders. I'm afraid that failing such a consensus, the use of this image must be deprecated. Thank you, --Hammersoft (talk) 15:00, 28 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

I disagree - this is not a generally accepted policy or guideline. It is a decision that less than 100 people were involved in. Wikipedia is not a democracy and the complaints justifying the decision while I agree apply to many situations, they do not apply here as the images have been successful, they mostly serve to notify users that an image is needed for new temples as they are announced, and they are quickly replaced with actual images. There is no reason to change a working system that has resulted in nearly 100% of the completed temples having an image and a majority all of temples under construction having a picture. --Trödel 15:06, 28 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
  • Specifically, do you have any evidence to suggest that not having a place holder image results in less performance than having a place holder image? Abstractly, you are welcome to disagree. However, with respect, the argument is thin; For years now place holder images have been removed, to the tune of more than 50,000 of them. I think it's safe to say the project hasn't skidded to a halt without them. Defining a line of "100" participants in order to be acceptable consensus is improper. The discussion was held at centralized discussion and anyone who wished to participate could participate. It was not done on an obscure talk page somewhere, but in the full light of the day. The project decided against them. Local consensus on a wikiproject can not override that. --Hammersoft (talk) 15:21, 28 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

By the way, I saw List of temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by geographic region and became concerned about copyright issues on a handful of the images displayed there. Per freedom of panorama issues, (see Commons:Commons:Freedom of panorama), the following images are copyright violations and need to be deleted from Commons:

The countries in question has restrictions on the reproduction and distribution of derivative works from original architecture, thus making them non-free for Commons purposes. This includes one picture uploaded by you, File:Manilla Temple.jpg. --Hammersoft (talk) 15:45, 28 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thanks you're awesome! --Trödel 16:06, 28 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
  • Referring to me as a dick is a personal attack. As an administrator, I am sure you know full well about the no personal attacks policy. Please refrain from using personal attacks in the future. I believed I was being helpful in doing the work to identify the copyright violations. I saw the list, and given my prior familiarity with freedom of panorama issues, it was natural for me to be concerned about the copyright status of the images given how many countries were represented in the list. I'm sorry you find this objectionable. However, it does not change Commons' stance on copyright nor does it give you leeway to insult me. --Hammersoft (talk) 17:57, 28 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
  • I've waited patiently for a response to my 15:21, 28 June 2012 comment above. I've removed File:Replace this image - temple.png from the templates once again, per WP:IPH, which as I noted previously can not be overridden by local consensus. This image was the last hold out of tens of thousands of uses of all place holder images that have been deprecated over the last several years. They are now no longer in use on the project. If you wish to change the consensus expressed at WP:IPH that resulted in many editors working to remove these place holder images, I invite you to start a new RFC to change consensus. Simply reverting the removals is not an option, given the presence of the prior consensus. If you should choose to do so anyway, the next step will be taking this to WP:AN/I. That of course is not in any sense a threat, just informing you of the next step I will be taking if need arises. I do NOT want to go there. Please take this notice in the good spirit it is intended. I am not trying to aggravate you, threaten you, show I've 'won', or any other negative intent. I am hoping to avoid this devolving any further, and that you will stand with consensus as it currently stands. There are times when I find a global consensus to be highly objectionable, but I act in accordance with it anyway. I hope you will do the same. Thanks, --Hammersoft (talk) 16:35, 15 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

File source problem with File:Farrukh Quarishi.png edit

Thank you for uploading File:Farrukh Quarishi.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 22:01, 18 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Seriously??!@?@?@?!!~~!!! WTF does {{own}} mean other than it is my own work - and that is I who created the content. --Trödel 17:39, 19 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

General Authorities and Boise Idaho Temple edit

Trodel, this will be a dual-subject comment. First, I haven't seen that the page histories of List of general authorities of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and this year's subpage histories have been merged. Could you take care of that ASAP, please? Also, I am posting this topic to invite you to comment on an issue I raised at Talk: List of temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints about the Boise Idaho temple. I goofed, and no one has been kind enough to fix my mistake, and I don't know how to fix it myself. It's been posted for a while, but so far, I am the only one who seems to care about this problem getting resolved. Please help me if you can. Thanks. As you are on reduced editing, I will post my request about the Boise Idaho temple on another user's page as well. --Jgstokes-We can disagree without being disagreeable (talk) 00:22, 15 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thank You for the Wikipedia Picture edit

Hello, My name is Duane Hurst and I recently made a free (non-commercial) English web site to share information with people. I added links to your Wikipedia/Wikimedia freeware picture. I also gave credit to you on my web pages for your work. Thank you for sharing with the public. My website is:

http://www.freeenglishsite.com/

I also am a "Mormon" and my web site has a Mormon section that contains my Book of Mormon map (pictures of actual locations), my translation of Egyptian hieroglyphs from the Book of Abraham, and other items. I have shared and discussed these with various LDS general authorities and given many fireside presentations about them in Japan, Thailand and USA. My web site sections about the USA and World also have LDS membership and temple information for each country.

I add pictures such as yours to one of the following major sections of my site: 1. World section - contains information and over 10,000 images of every world country and territory. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/world/index.htm

2. USA section - contains information and images of every USA state and territory. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/world/usa/index.htm

3. English section - "Mel and Wes" lessons in conversation format. Stories are located in various USA states and world countries such as China, England, Germany, Japan, Mexico and Thailand. Each lesson has many slang terms and idioms, which I link to my Slang Dictionary. This eventually will have over 5,000 terms. Currently, it has about 3,000 slang and idioms. I regularly add new lessons and slang terms. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/english/lessons/index.htm Slang Dictionary link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/english/slang/Eslang_a.htm

Prior to retirement, I taught English at several private and public universities in the United States.

Please share this free site with your friends. I hope all will enjoy the pictures and find the English information useful. Sincerely,  Duane Hurst in Utah, USA

Hand-coding edit

Hey all :).

I'm dropping you a note because you've been involved in dealing with feedback from the Article Feedback Tool. To get a better handle on the overall quality of comments now that the tool has become a more established part of the reader experience, we're undertaking a round of hand coding - basically, taking a sample of feedback and marking each piece as inappropriate, helpful, so on - and would like anyone interested in improving the tool to participate :).

You can code as many or as few pieces of feedback as you want: this page should explain how to use the system, and there is a demo here. Once you're comfortable with the task, just drop me an email at okeyes@wikimedia.org and I'll set you up with an account :).

If you'd like to chat with us about the research, or want live tutoring on the software, there will be an office hours session on Monday 17 December at 23:00 UTC in #wikimedia-office connect. Hope to see some of you there! Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 23:10, 14 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Edit warring edit

Your recent editing history at Cüneyt Çakır shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.

To avoid being blocked, instead of reverting please consider using the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. See BRD for how this is done. You can post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Note all parties involved are being warned. --ThaddeusB (talk) 22:05, 5 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
I'll stop editing that page for the day. --Trödel 22:21, 5 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

32-team bracket with byes? edit

Greetings, Trodel. I am attempting to create a new article for the 2013 NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Championship, and I have been presented with a challenge: it is a 26-team field! (see here) It is essentially the same as a 32-team bracket, but the top six seeded teams will receive byes. The other 20 teams (including the No. 7 and No. 8 seeds) have play-in games. It was easy enough to create the 16-team bracket for the 2012 NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Championship, but I am uncertain how to best construct the 26-team bracket for the 2013 championship. Would you be willing to help? Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 20:42, 9 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

List of area seventies of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints edit

I was told you might be able to help with a problem with List of area seventies of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Six of the links go to people who are not Area Seventies, but other people with the same name. I am trying to figure out how to remove the links. The way the list is set up there is no easy way to do so.John Pack Lambert (talk) 16:51, 21 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

To override the standard link that it creates based on the name; add "|link=no" for no link at all (for example I changed the lopez on this page here. Although it isn't currently used, if there is exist a page that has been disambiguated for the LDS person who shares a common name with other notable people such as "Martin Harris (Latter Day Saints)" you would use "link=Martin Harris (Latter Day Saints)" - this can be used to link to specific section of a larger article such as "link=Three_Witnesses#Martin_Harris"
Let me know if you need further assistance. --Trödel 02:29, 23 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

August 2013 Changes in Area Leadership edit

As I stated on the General Authorities page, Area Leadership Assignments for August 2013 have recently been announced in the Church News. If you could please create a subpage like you have in years past, I'd appreciate it. On the talk page, I have outlined all the changes that need to be made. I will take care of making the changes myself once the subpage is created. Or even if you can tell me how to create a subpage, I could take care of creating it myself. At the moment, I am clueless. Any and all help you can give will be greatly appreciated. --Jgstokes-We can disagree without being disagreeable (talk) 04:28, 31 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Never mind. I figured out how to create it myself. You will find it here. Should have all changes input myself within the next hour or so. Thanks anyways. Feel free to visit the page to improve it any way you can think of. And you will still be needed when the time comes to merge the page histories. Thanks again. --Jgstokes-We can disagree without being disagreeable (talk) 07:16, 31 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
Will do - drop me an email if I take to long to respond as I am not checking Wikipedia as often as I have before. --Trödel 14:45, 3 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for responding. I was just glad I figured out how to do it so that I can now do it every year if you aren't available. I will shoot you an e-mail when the time comes to merge the page histories. Thanks for all your great work! --Jgstokes-We can disagree without being disagreeable (talk) 00:58, 4 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Now that August 1 has come and gone, I have merged the changes from the subpage to the page proper. Now the page histories need to be merged. Since you know how to do that, I am asking for your help. Speedy deletion nomination of Template:LDSInfobox/JS edit

A tag has been placed on Template:LDSInfobox/JS requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it must be substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{substituted}}</noinclude>).

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page's talk page, where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here.

Please note: I am letting you know in order to follow propper procedure. However, this template was "replaced" by Template:Latter Day Saint biography/Joseph Smith, so while Template:LDSInfobox/JS is being deleted, the information is not. If you go to Joseph Smith you can see the improved version.--ARTEST4ECHO (talk/contribs) 14:40, 24 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

I have put the article on Joseph Smith up as a nominee for Featured Article Status! I think the article has come a long way, and has a very good chance of being featured this time around. Thanks! --Trevdna (talk) 19:38, 21 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Community of Christ Infobox edit

Someone has put the Community of Christ infobox up for deletion because he feels that we shouldn't be using an infobox on more then one page, (see here). This template is used the same way that {{Infobox LDS Church}} and his reason for deletion could very easily be applied to that page. I think that perhaps some more editor of Later Day Saint pages need to chime in, of we are going to find that this will happens to a number of LDS Related infobox templates.--ARTEST4ECHO (talk/contribs) 13:28, 2 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

FYI - I included some articles on Toby's background on Talk:Joseph Toby. Once he plays a first team game - remind me on my talk page and I'll restore the article so you don't have to go to DRV. --Trödel 03:04, 10 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

  • Thanks. Sigh, if I remember when he starts. These deletions during the pre-season of players who are part of the first team of a now fully-professional team puzzle me. Particularly this one, with references like that. Nfitz (talk) 03:12, 10 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
FYI - I restored the references to the talk page in case you want them. --Trödel 19:28, 1 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
I've been on vacation, so this is my first time logged in a few weeks. Thanks! I'd forgotten all about this (which is part of my frustration of these deletions of players who'd likely be playing professionally within a few weeks ... that we are likely to lose stuff when the article is recreated. Nfitz (talk) 15:09, 17 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
It's easy to lose that info, if you need stuff like that restored - just go to Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard and ask for help restoring the deleted information. I'd also make a subpage User:Nfitz/Deleted footballers or something similar and wikilink them there so you can see them change from red to blue when they are recreated and then ask for the deleted history to be restored. --Trödel 21:39, 18 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Kevin S. Hamilton nominated for deletion. edit

I am posting here to inform you, if you don't already know, that the article I started on Kevin S. Hamilton has been nominated for deletion. I have made my case for keeping the article on the relevant page, but was criticized for my comments. So while I will keep an eye on the way this develops, I don't intend to say more than I've already said. I wondered if you might be able to look over that AfD discussion and add your thoughts. If this page is deleted, I will have to question the notability of other articles written about current or former members of the Second Quorum of the Seventy. Anyways, just wanted to alert you to what was going on with that so you could comment if you choose. Perhaps you see this situation differently from me and have a better understanding of the policies and procedures involved. If you have any feedback on this comment, please leave it on my talk page, as I don't habitually check other users' talk pages for replies. Thanks. --Jgstokes (talk) 01:31, 16 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

August 2014 Changes in Area Leadership edit

Hello. I sent you an e-mail but wanted to be sure that you'd get this message. The time has come once again for us to merge the page histories for the user page I set up here with the main List of general authorities of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints article. I have read about how to merge the pages, but what I read didn't make sense to me. I tried going to the Wikipedia help page about it and had no luck finding a tutorial on how to do it. So I will have to rely on you to get it done, unless of course I was successful in requesting that it be done. Thanks for all your great work on Wikipedia! --Jgstokes (talk) 10:04, 1 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Completed - thanks for the reminder --Trödel 17:02, 1 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for taking care of that! It'll be interesting to see what develops over the next little while with changes in general authority assignments. I am particularly intrigued about the fact that Elder Alonso, Elder Bowen, and Elder Ellis will apparently be pulling double duty for a while, serving simultaneously in area presidencies and as advisers to the Church magazines. Thanks again for helping out with this! --Jgstokes (talk) 21:19, 1 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

You're welcome - I also find the church governance interesting. Have a good day! --Trödel 21:23, 1 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Did you get the part of my message about the CDOL? If so, is it up? If it s up, can we thus verify who is actually serving as executive directors/assistant executive directors in the various departments? If that information could be obtained, it would be very helpful to have. --Jgstokes (talk) 06:11, 2 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

I didn't get your message re CDOL - but I can't help with that right now as my current calling doesn't include access to the CDOL. --Trödel 14:06, 4 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

That's unfortunate for Wikipedia, but I guess that's the way it goes. Thanks anyways. I have put in a request for information with someone else who might have access to it. Thanks again. --Jgstokes (talk) 06:40, 5 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Orlando City Soccer Club edit

Hi, you dealt with this page move, and the page currently located at Orlando City Soccer Club should be at Orlando City SC per standard naming conventions which I mentioned multiple times during the discussion, please can you rectify? GiantSnowman 17:08, 26 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Completed - I read that but wasn't sure as the name had been that for a while and I remembered that I had moved it there by request earlier. I reviewed the discussion and saw - there was no real discussion - just no objections - so I moved it per your request just now. It seems most of the Wikipedians don't really care that much either way since no one discussed it much last time - so I suspect it will stay. However, I did note that if there are some objections there should probably be a proper discussion this time. --Trödel 17:22, 26 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
Nice one, thanks! GiantSnowman 17:27, 26 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
Your welcome - we should probably get someone that is good with editing assist tools and/or bots to go through and fix the wikilinks to the new title. --Trödel 17:30, 26 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Trödel's "work" on Dave Schultz (wrestling) – why do you simply remove somebody else's work with properly looking into it? edit

I guess https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Dave_Schultz_(wrestling)#References (I wrote tthat) intrigued you to your change https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Dave_Schultz_(wrestling)&oldid=644925455 .
I had found that one of the two references mentioned was incorrect – you simply removed all of it.
I do not regard this respectable style, but actually rather careless and inconsiderate. Do you think this kind of contribution is necessary here? Think about it! --johayek (talk) 02:09, 31 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
