Polysaccharide encapsulated bacteria edit

You added a section about pseudomonas to the polysaccharide encapsulated bacteria article that appears to be a copyright violation (see: {diff}, copied from (blacklisted link).

I read your user page (User:Touchstone42) and am aware that you seek permission in all cases; however, I have no way of independently verifying this. In any case, I think the material is inappropriate for the polysaccharide encapsulated bacteria article. Also, I believe that an original contribution that is throughly referenced (with articles that are open access) is of more value.

While I do not know the true objective of your edit, I believe it could be mistaken as an advertisement for the book you reference. Wikipedia has policy about ads. If you're unfamiliar with it I think you should read it-- see: WP:ADS. Thanks, Nephron  T|C 19:39, 13 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Many thanks for your comments regarding this matter. I am happy to say that the text in question is in fact available under the GFDL license and this has now been made clear on the original web page at (blacklisted link).
I always try to add source citations to any material I add to the Wikii site. This is in accordance with Wiki policy: "In general, the most reliable publications are peer-reviewed journals and books published in university presses; university-level textbooks; magazines, journals, and books published by respected publishing houses." saRNA edit

Hi. Your addition to RNA duplicates info, if you think the text that was already there is poorly written you should modify it instead of including the same thing twice. Also, I think if you want to write about saRNA (which seems like a synonym for siRNA/miRNA in a particular context, so not a word for summary-style sections and articles) it should be in the Upregulation of genes section (currently too short) in RNA interference rather than the lead - the lead is for summary. Oh, and consider editing small interfering RNA and microRNA, both could use a section about RNAa. Narayanese (talk) 15:59, 27 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the suggestions Narayanese, I will certainly make the changes you suggest. Touchstone42 (talk) 17:01, 4 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Conflict of interest edit

  If you have a close connection to some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred from the tone of the edit and the proximity of the editor to the subject, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors;
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam);
    and you must always:
  4. avoid breaching relevant policies and guidelines, especially neutral point of view, verifiability, and autobiography.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have conflict of interest, please see Wikipedia:Business' FAQ. For more details about what constitutes a conflict of interest, please see Wikipedia:Conflict of Interest. Thank you. --Orange Mike | Talk 17:43, 15 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi, many thanks for your comments about this matter. Sorry for any problems caused. As you suggested, I have read Wikipedia:Conflict_of_Interest and realise that there may be a COI as defined in these guidelines. I have access to selected scientific reviews published by Horizon Scientific Press and I have permission to make this material available on Wiki under the GFDL license. For purposes of Verifiability I understood that the correct citation would be the book that the material comes from. I do not have access to any other published material so the only references I cite are to Horizon Press books. In future I have three options:
  1. Stop adding content to Wiki
  2. Add content without references
  3. Add content with references to Horizon Press books
I welcome any help or suggestions and will take your advice seriously. Thanks again. Touchstone42 (talk) 09:56, 16 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Image copyright problem with Image:Cimb.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Cimb.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --23:36, 19 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Environmental microbiology edit

You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles. See the Article Wizard.

Thank you.

A tag has been placed on Environmental microbiology, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising that only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an acceptable page. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item G11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this page is not blatant advertising,  . Clicking that button will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. You may freely add information to the page that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would help make it encyclopedic, as well as adding any citations from independent reliable sources to ensure that the page will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. CatPath (talk) 07:51, 1 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Please disregard. The proposal for speedy deletion was rejected. CatPath (talk) 11:13, 1 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
Nonetheless, it has been suggested that some of the text may be infringing on copyrighted material. If you're affliated with the publisher, and they want to licence the content appropriately, there's information here. But please be aware that if they want to licence the content appropriately, they almost certainly don't understand what they're doing, and are likely to be quite unhappy once they figure it out. It's always best to only use text written specifically for Wikipedia. WilyD 11:17, 1 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
I also noticed that you've added external links to the Caister/Horizon Press web site in a number of articles. This could be considered spamming. I deleted some of those links but I suspect there are others I missed. CatPath (talk) 17:48, 1 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Iron in microbiology edit

Hi Touchstone42. The article you created, Iron in microbiology, on 8 September 2010‎ has recently been tagged (14 August 2012‎) for maintenance. Several issues appear to remain unresolved, including the submission of copyright permission through the proper channels. With the exception of very minor edits and the addition of the templates themselves, you appear to have provided the entire text of the article; could you please therefore consider returning to the article and addressing these problems, otherwise I may decide to reduce it to a one-line stub pending the outcome. Thanks in advance for your attention. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 00:50, 14 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Iron in microbiology edit

It is clear that at least some of the sections of Iron in microbiology are copied directly from the source. Even though they are properly cited, we discourage direct copying, except in limited circumstances, and in those cases, the material should be identified as a quote. Even in those cases, permission to use the material must be on file.

I see your note on the talk page that you have permission, but we must have the formal permission on file.

See Donating copyrighted materials or contact me for more information. Until such permission is arranged, I will be deleting the article.--SPhilbrick(Talk) 19:59, 7 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Because of the various comments (see above), I have decided that contributing to Wikipedia is far too much trouble and all I get is hassle from people like you. I resign! I will no longer contribute to Wikipedia or support it in any way. Touchstone42 (talk) 18:05, 10 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Systems microbiology edit

The article Systems microbiology has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Copyvio. The whole article is adspam for a publisher who has not given CC-BY-SA permission. No content left worth merging into Systems biology which is where it would belong.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
