Page moves edit

It's considered polite to not edit articles in a major way which are subject to discussion on VfD. Edits to improve the article are usually considered fine, but sweeping changes like a page move may rise eyebrows. Somebody will surely move the page once the discussion is over if the consensus is to do so. -- Longhair | Talk 04:15, 16 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Fashion edit

It seems to be that the articles-by-quality graph, which had been updating itself automatically every other day, has for some reason stopped doing so. Perhaps there is a bug or something. Daniel Case 13:51, 11 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

By all means do what you've been doing, and feel free to add yourself to the project. Jen is probably busy now, she's a law student after all, and she did so much last month when she reorganized the whole, horribly cluttered Category:Fashion. She's earned her rest, although I doubt she feels relaxed at the moment. I am trying to keep the project active a) because this is too big a subject for Wikipedia to let fall through the cracks and b) the articles need to be assessed. But I'm sure she'll return.
I see also that you're working on a redesign of the fashion portal. That would be great ... when I get done with the assessments I'm going to try to see about updating the content there, and I'd like to set up a selected article nomination process.
The categorization you were noting is not unique to just France. There are a lot of people's articles currently in the project whose relevance to fashion is primarily historical and/or incidental. Hopefully when we get this going with more editors we can start to decide if some of them really belong. Daniel Case 15:35, 11 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
I understand your point, but the by-nationality subcategorization system is so widely used for everything around here there's really no argument for abandoning it. I suppose you would be more accurate if you refer to it as "by national origin", since under it a "French model" is one who most people would identify as originally French (raised there even if not born there), even if she later lives in the US or Britain full-time and has almost no accent.

But we can certainly have those other categories as a different branch of the category tree ... "fashion models", "cosmetics models", "glamour models", that sort of thing, depending on what they specialize in.

Certainly, bring this up over at the project talk page. Category:fashion has been extensively cleaned up by Jen and I, but there are still some lingering subcat issues I intend to address when assessments are done. Daniel Case 17:10, 11 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I put "by country" because that seems to be the convention where companies (as opposed to people) are concerned. (See Category:Companies_by_country.) For now, I just stuck the existing categories into subcategories to make it less messy-looking--I don't really want to do all the digging it would require to sort the uncategorized ones out.... Bill Blass pic edit

It's not licensed under a free license. It's copyrighted. Therefore it's here under fair use (irreplaceable fair use since he's dead, but fair use all the same). Daniel Case 20:21, 18 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Since he's dead, it doesn't matter what its original use was. His life is an unrepeatable historic event; therefore it falls under that exception. Daniel Case 01:02, 19 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

With the caveat that we can't replace an existing free image of the person with a possibly-better fair-use one just because they died. Daniel Case 01:57, 19 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Cruise (clothing) edit

A tag has been placed on Cruise (clothing), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group or service and which would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this article is not blatant advertising, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would help make it encyclopedic, as well as adding any citations from reliable sources to ensure that the article will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. DrFrench 13:48, 24 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for noticing me about this article's speedy deletion nomination, maybe I should inform you though that all I did was creating a redirect on this article as I'm part of the Fashion WikiProject and we were simply enforcing the naming convention of disambiguated clothes brands' articles. I modified a good number of them and didn't really check the articles actually, not seeing this particular one was nothing more than advertising. Thanks for clearing the article, but I'm really not the creator of it, the notice wasn't really necessary. Thanks for your time. Thiste 01:01, 25 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Chanel+logo.png) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Chanel+logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 14:42, 11 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Lacoste edit

Bonjour Thiste,

Bien cordialement, Korg (talk) 02:01, 27 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

WikiProject Fashion article on Andrew Saul edit

Just a heads up that Andrew Saul (ex-CEO of Cache and Brooks Bros.) has been nominated for featured article status here. Fair use rationale for Image:WF-old.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:WF-old.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Image source problem with Image:Morgane Dubled.jpg edit

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Morgane Dubled.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 15:06, 12 November 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. 140.247.243.169 15:06, 12 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fashion Wikiproject edit

I listed it at Wikipedia:Community Portal, but honestly I don't know how much advertising this within Wikipedia will help. You might be better advertising for people in fashion oriented areas of the web to come join Wikipedia.--BirgitteSB 02:10, 22 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I don't think it is a matter of awareness. Wikipedians just tend to work in area that they are interested in and things that are really poorly covered aren't areas that have connected with current Wikipedians. People really don't choose to work in area because it poorly covered, they choose to work in area they care about regardless of existing coverage. So your best bet is recruiting people who care a great deal about fashion to Wikipedia.--BirgitteSB 02:39, 22 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

It didn't get deleted because that speedy deletion tag only applies to articles deleted in AFD. I took a look at the article and think it should probably be nominated for deletion at WP:AFD. As far as I can tell (my Spanish is pretty bad) the references provided do not give the subject more than a passing mention when they discuss topics related to him. I wanted to get a second opinion before I nominate it, let me know what you think. --Daniel J. Leivick (talk) 22:02, 25 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Image copyright problem with Image:CommeDesGarcons.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:CommeDesGarcons.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --02:45, 20 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image (File:WFE-logo.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading File:WFE-logo.jpg. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. ZooFari 02:01, 18 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Age problem edit

Have you tried purging the server cache of the page or your browser cache? For the server cache, see WP:PURGE. For your browser cache, it's CTRL-F5 in firefox and i think the same in IE (though I'm not sure). This will get rid of stored old versions on the server and in your browser. If that doesn't work, it's probably a problem with Template:birth date and age and you should ask there. Calliopejen1 (talk) 14:49, 2 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

I tried in Firefox at home, and now Firefox and IE8 at work, and they all show 23. Are you still seeing 22 anywhere? Calliopejen1 (talk) 15:04, 2 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Duchamp (clothing) edit

The article Duchamp (clothing) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Notability. 5 years and still not a single independent source.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
