Climate articles need a lot of work. Thanks for being here!

Thanks for helping edit Climate Change content on Wikipedia! WikiProject Climate Change is a group of editors who strive to improve the quality of climate change articles here on Wikipedia. I noticed that you are interested in editing articles related to climate change topics; we need more editors like you in the community.

Wikipedia is one the most requested, published, accessed, and consulted source of information on climate change and sustainability in every language. As an editing community, we think Wikipedia is one of the best ways for sharing knowledge about the climate crises, and also the best path to help decision makers and communicators at all levels of society, including journalists, policy makers, politicians, and decision makers.

If you want to do more, here are some suggestions:

  • Content is much more likely to stick if you have good citations. Check out our recommended sources collection to learn what kinds of sources we think are best.
  • If you are looking for ideas on what to edit, consider one of the Small to medium tasks suggestions.
  • Be bold and join the discussion! The Wikipedia community includes a wide variety of editors with different interests, skills, and knowledge. We all manage to get along through a lot of discussion that happens under the scenes and through the bold, revert, discuss editing cycle.
  • Please leave a message on the on the WikiProject Climate change talk page if you have concerns that involve multiple articles, would like review of an article, need suggestions for articles to edit, or would like some collaboration when editing. Or for general questions about how Wikipedia works, feel free to ask at the Wikipedia Teahouse.

Feel free to respond to this note if you have any questions. I wish you all the best!

Thank you so much! What got you editing the Edna Hibel article? Theobrad (talk) 21:43, 26 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
I came across her name on accident while searching for potential topics for new articles. I don't remember where I first came across her though. SL93 (talk) 21:49, 26 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Smart cities article

edit

I noticed you added a lot of content to the Smart Cities article, which was mostly pretty well cited and definitely helped the article. Putting this up to say that I ended up deleting a decent bit of your "need for smart cities" section: you added a lot of examples of problems, but while you cited that they existed, you didn't cite anything describing their relevance to smart cities. I also deleted the second half of your Cities in the digital era section: it cited two articles describing growth in processors and one (City of Bits) that seemed to mostly describe cyberspace, and did not mention smart cities, none of which sourced there being important changes due to modern technology. A lot of the content you added (while it is useful) reads more like an essay or like a report than like a Wikipedia article: I'd recommend trying to put the conclusion in the first sentence, and then go into increasing detail from there (that's what I do). A few of the section titles are also reading a bit like a scientific report. In my experience, Wikipedia section titles are usually short if possible (though it varies a lot), don't have subtitles, and the convention is to not capitalize after the first word. Hi Mrfoogles.
Thank you so much for your feedback. When I have more time I will go through and edit more of the article to make it more Encyclopaedic. I think because the topic is very much still in academic circles, with so much debate about what is and what isn't a smart city initiative. That is why theory dominates so much of the discussion. However, I definitely need to counteract that to make it more readable and Encylopaedic. A tricky challenge but I'll give it a go! Theobrad (talk) 10:29, 9 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello Theobrad. The nature of your edits, such as the one you made to :W. David Marx, Jacob Gallagher (writer) and Reese Cooper (designer) gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being employed (or being compensated in any way) by a person, group, company or organization to promote their interests. Paid advocacy on Wikipedia must be disclosed even if you have not specifically been asked to edit Wikipedia. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Theobrad. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Theobrad|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. Blanes tree (talk) 20:18, 26 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

I have not been paid to write about W. David Marx. I have read his work. I am simply a fan. Theobrad (talk) 20:19, 26 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
