December 2014 edit

Hi there! Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. Thanks! Drmies (talk) 16:03, 25 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Gurpreet Singh Chabal edit

The article Gurpreet Singh Chabal has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:NFOOTY and WP:GNG.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Refrain from bad language edit

Hey mate, listen, I've been on wiki for more than half a decade now and I have seen the worst this place has to offer. It is not nice, I can tell you that but please, try to refrain from bad language like calling a guy a prick and what not. Cheers. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 19:05, 12 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Haha, the age old question. You just got to deal with it man and try talking to the guy. If he still refuses to change then you just message someone at WP:Football and let everything take its course. Wikipedia is a place where as long as you're doing good things will turn out to be alright. Cheers man and keep up your good work. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 07:33, 13 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
Exactly. You are new. You'll get it man. Again, keep up the good work you are doing. Great to have you on board! --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 08:39, 13 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Barnstar edit

  The Football Barnstar
For your good work on Indian football related pages. Coderzombie (talk) 17:06, 19 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
Barnstars are for user appreciation from one user to another for the work they have put in. All in good fun. See WP:STAR , if you want to know more. Cheers! Coderzombie (talk) 17:11, 19 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
To add on to User:Coderzombie, really good work mate. Your work on the Indian football pages, mainly with player pages, has not gone unnoticed. Keep it up... there are more stars where those came from. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 23:33, 19 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Citation edit

Just a suggestion: Please use Template:Cite web for references rather than directly referencing, so the references are better organized and do not suffer from Link rot. Keep up the good work. Coderzombie (talk) 18:03, 31 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Sure man. Still trying to figure out the best practices involved. Let me see if I can find an example to use the cite-web thingy.
If you want to know how it's used, check out 2014–15 Bengaluru FC season page, or any other featured article for that matter. What it gives additional information about the link and is more useful to the reader. Cheers. Coderzombie (talk) 06:46, 11 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
Thanks and I'll start using the said page as a reference going forward. You have done some excellent work on that page man.The real AG (talk) 09:10, 12 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Table dates edit

Hi, please remember to update the date above career stats tables. Mattythewhite (talk) 18:14, 9 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for pointing that out. I usually do it, but must have forgotten it a few times. The real AG (talk) 09:12, 12 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Summary of the edits edit

Whenever you update any page, it'd be helpful if you write a small summary along with the edit, so it helps other editors understand the action you have taken. Cheers. Coderzombie (talk) 09:01, 10 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Sure. I sometimes go into pages to copy templates which I then edit for a new page. This is the reason why you keep seeing my name everywhere on the I-League player profile pages. The real AG (talk) 09:13, 12 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

My appreciation for you! edit

Man, I have never had a chance to do regular updates of the I-League players before and now that you are here we are seeing updates every round. I really do appreciate your work man and I do not want you to think it is not noticed... again, great work... keep it up! :) --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 07:24, 12 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. I have had some free time and I just quit smoking, so I guess this is my new addiction. The real AG (talk) 09:14, 12 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
Haha, hm, I wonder if wiki can stop one of my addictions? That is how it was for me before, would love to be there again. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 10:16, 12 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Source for U-19 League? edit

I see you have updated goal scorers for U-19 games so far. That's great! But I couldn't find on official site. Source? Coderzombie (talk) 03:18, 21 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

I went through the twitter accounts of all 4 of the clubs who were playing. Salgaocar as usual don't give a shite and haven't even mentioned their own team playing. The AIFF media didn't update their account either. Thankfully, there are a couple of very professional media teams at Pune, LFC-DSK who even gave updates on the AIFF game. I couldn't find the scorer for Salgaocar. The real AG (talk) 09:36, 21 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
And that is okay as we've both done that in the past but be careful and mention this in the edit summary. Cheers. Also, please be on the lookout for newspaper sources. Pune FC's matches article was released the next day in a paper. http://indiansportsnews.com/football-news/35347-u19-i-league-pune-fc-defeat-dsk-shiavajians-4-2-in-opener --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 15:39, 21 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
Sure. I sometimes do the editing I want and then I realize I made a mistake so I go back in to rectify that mistake, only this second time I log in to edit, I forget to give a summary in the edit summary section. The real AG (talk) 17:25, 22 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Sandesh Jhingan stats for United Sikkim edit

Hey mate. I understand what you mean but at the end of the day this is wikipedia. We are an encyclopedia and everything we do must be verified and as far as I know we do not know exactly how many games Sandesh Jhingan has played for United Sikkim in the 2nd Division so we can't put a number. However, you can mention in the United Sikkim section that he played in six of their final round games as we have a source for that. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 18:05, 22 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for that man. I understand the rules and how things are done here. But in all honesty, if that were the case and we can't put a number unless we are absolutely sure we have not missed even a single game, surely, pretty much all of the players in Indian I-League will have their stats section question? Finding information on something that happened two years ago from even the clubs' website is difficult, so I thought we should use all the referenced information we know to inform the public about statistics, interests in players, etc. In Jhingan's case, I know for a fact that at least one of the club's who showed an interest in him in January (a Danish club), used the information we provided on Wikipedia in a meeting at his club, and that he had played 21 games for United Sikkim certainly helped in him being offered a trial. I did similar editing with Jackichand Singh, Satiyasen Singh and Thoi Singh. Check them out and if you find the information ambiguous and unclear, remove it.The real AG (talk) 09:03, 23 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
You're right. A lot of Indian players will have their stats disputed now. It was not until the 2012–13 season that places like soccerway started to keep track of stats for the I-League so anything from 2011–12 and before is hard to track. Unfortunately it is just what we have to deal with. Yes, it probably helped him with the trial but I am sure what really helped was the fact that he did very well in the ISL, not with United Sikkim, one of the worst teams in I-League history. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 20:39, 23 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Jackichand Singh's appearances edit

I know that there is some general disagreement on Jackichand's appearances, and since you've shown interest in the article it would probably be better to discuss this matter on [Talk:Jackichand Singh Jackichand's talk page] rather than constantly undo each other's edits. Thanks. Inter&anthro (talk) 14:42, 4 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Sources for the release? edit

Could you please add source for the release of Pawan, Gurtej etc on 2015–16 Bengaluru FC season? Coderzombie (talk) 08:53, 10 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Another Indian Football Network release... nothing official. If you could find information on their reported 2 year deals from 2013 then that would work as there is nothing confirming extensions as of yet. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 23:28, 10 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
Unofficially I know that they have been released, but probably the only way to find out if when BFC updates their website next season. Coderzombie (talk) 07:32, 12 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
Sure, let's do that guys; wait for the official release and change it then. -The real AG (talk) 17:35, 12 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open! edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Hey edit

Hey man, first off, thanks for editing the player stats, really helps mate. Secondly, would you mind checking this AfD. I tried to tell the user to go read the rules but seems that is not exactly working. Cheers and happy holidays! --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 04:02, 6 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Oh, forgot something! I am planning to do a full revamp and editing run on a lot of I-League articles before the season starts next month. I will have time to do this after this week as I have finals but after I will have plenty of time. This will involve getting I-League related pages cleaned and updated, clubs updated and cleaned, their squads correct, player articles correct etc. Your help would be great and I will also ask Coderzombie as well. Cheers again. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 04:05, 6 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
Try and reason with a Kolkata-based fan? That will be a futile exercise I feel. From what I read there, your argument for deletion is sound, but the dude doesn't understand. Are you saying that another user getting involved there will help? I would be game to help clean out the I-League related stuff including all of those areas you mention, but I may well get busy over the next two weeks or so. The real AG (talk) 04:13, 6 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
I know, but I had to try anyway haha. I was more thinking you could vote "delete" or "keep" instead of dealing with him directly. That is fine on the I-League stuff. I think we will all be busy, I just want to make sure everything is sound. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 04:39, 6 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Career stats tables edit

Hi there, thanks for expanding Riyad Mahrez to include the division, however please note that where possible, the bluelink on the season (i.e. 2015–16) should link to the club's season page and not the league's. GiantSnowman 12:51, 7 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

H man, I didn't realize that! Looking through how things are done on the majority of the player profiles, it seems to point to a majority of them being referring to the season in the league (2014-15 Premier League as an example)! The real AG (talk) 12:54, 7 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Please help defend SAFF articles for deletion edit

Hi The real AG, please help me defend the SAFF sub articles which are currently being considered for deletion. Many of these articles contain information that is useful to football in the SAFF region and Indian football, in my opinion these articles should remain on Wikipedia. Sandesh Jhingan edit

Hey mate, just want to clarify on Sandesh Jhingan and his infobox. The way sources were written, it was that Jhingan was with Kerala Blasters for the 2014 season but then signed for Sporting Goa after for the I-League. None of the sources, including an official ISL one, said that it was a loan to Sporting Goa but rather just him joining them till the end of the season. The next season, when he went to DSK, sources said it was a loan. Thus why the infobox is the way it is. Cheers. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 15:34, 11 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Contentious topics alert edit

Introduction to contentious topics edit

You have recently edited a page related to pseudoscience and fringe science, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.
