Speedy deletion nomination of Charles Leatherland, Baron Leatherland

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Charles Leatherland, Baron Leatherland requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.) or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Image at Freemasonry

I noted your addition of [[File:Structure of Freemasonry poster.jpg|thumb|The Structure of Freemasonry]] to the Freemasonry article, and that your addition was reverted.

I agree with the revert, but thought I would do you the courtesy of explaining why... The chart was created for an article on Freemasonry that appeared in Life Magazine back in the late 1950s or early 1960s (it has been reprinted in a few other publications since then). The chart did, for the most part, accurately depict the structure of Freemasonry as it existed in the United States at the time (the only major flaw was that it lists the various Scottish Rite degrees by the names used in the Southern Jurisdiction... the Northern Jurisdiction uses different names).

However, the chart was (and is) very inaccurate when it comes to depicting the structure of Freemasonry in other parts of the world ... In England for example, neither the "York Rite" nor the "Scottish Rite" exist. Some (but not all) of the degrees that are in the American "York Rite" (such as the degree of the Holy Royal Arch) are available... but they are offered as stand alone things, and not as part of a structured "system".

That's why the image was removed. Hope this explains the situation... feel free to ask at my talk page if you have any questions. Blueboar (talk) 13:18, 9 April 2012 (UTC)

Oh, absolutely... it is definitely a well known poster. Just not a very accurate poster when it comes to Masonry outside the US. :>) Blueboar (talk) 01:31, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
re a 19th century version... interesting... I suppose the famous version that was printed in Life Magazine could have been based on an earlier version, but I have never seen one myself (if it is on-line, could you link it for me). Certainly the version you put in the article is from the mid-20th century (you can tell by the way the men depicted are dressed). Blueboar (talk) 11:28, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
Hmmm... looking at this in more depth... According to two Masonic websites I trust... [1] and [2]... the poster first appeared in the Oct. 8, 1956 Life Magazine article. So I have to more actively question your assertion that you have seen one that is older. Blueboar (talk) 11:50, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

Chinese politicians

Thank you for your articles on Chinese politicians; unfortunately they are all unreferenced. Please add some sources before creating more content. Ironholds (talk) 16:15, 5 May 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, I appreciate that. Unfortunately, sources are required to verify (a) that they exist and (b) that they pass WP:GNG. It can be as simple as "X was a chinese politician [link to where you found this out]". Ironholds (talk) 12:43, 8 May 2012 (UTC)
So...you used the Chinese wikipedia as a source? How did you create these articles if you don't speak the language? Ironholds (talk) 12:50, 8 May 2012 (UTC)
Right. So, you translated (tiny amounts of) articles from another project, copied them across, and did so without references or, indeed, any ability to verify the references were reliable or actually said what the article said? Ironholds (talk) 13:00, 8 May 2012 (UTC)
Okay. So, editors are expected to be responsible for the content they stick on Wikipedia, moved from other projects or not. In future, you should avoid this sort of action unless you can verify that the references actually say what the article does - and yes, dates of death and birth are things that need to be verified. In the meantime, please find citations for the articles you have already added. Ironholds (talk) 13:07, 8 May 2012 (UTC)
So only two of them were actually referenced? Ironholds (talk) 13:26, 8 May 2012 (UTC)
  • That's not necessary. Okay, add the references for the dates of birth and death for the two you have. For the others: this is why we do not use other Wikipedia projects (or our own) as sources - because we cannot ascertain the reliability of the information. You have to find sources for the other articles, otherwise they may be deleted. In the future, only enter content that you can validate through third-party, reliable sources. Ironholds (talk) 13:29, 8 May 2012 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Ulysses Bagenal de Burgh

Hello The Theosophist. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Ulysses Bagenal de Burgh, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: this article contributes extra information - a merge, as proposed, is the solution. Thank you. JohnCD (talk) 18:36, 26 May 2012 (UTC)

Peerology project: comment

Your sandbox tabulation looks interesting. May I suggest however that at this early stage you delete all the modern life-peers to leave only the hereditaries? (Lobsterthermidor (talk) 16:18, 1 June 2012 (UTC))

User:The Theosophist/Peerology

Per WP:NFCC#9, which is clear that non-free media are only allowed in article space, I have removed the non-free images on this sandbox. Thanks, Black Kite (talk) 18:29, 17 June 2012 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Sylvie Hubac

The article Sylvie Hubac has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, all newly created biographies of living persons must have at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. →TSU tp* 14:27, 23 June 2012 (UTC)

Famous Scottish Freemasons...

Hello. I worry that some people on the List of Freemasons article might object to http://www.lodge76.wanadoo.co.uk/famous_scottish_freemasons.htm being used as a reference. I look at that site and think "OK... what was their source for this information. A website like that, that is not a "published" source subject to peer review, can put out pretty much whatever they want. I would suggest you try to find better sources for those men... Maybe 10,000 Ffamous Freemasons or something like that. Try a Google book for each person. Eric Cable  |  Talk  13:21, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

That's a good question...

I don't remember exactly, but as that's been oversighted (as was my reversion), I think it was a "privacy of non-notable people" issue. MSJapan (talk) 20:03, 5 November 2012 (UTC)
