Adoption

sorry if i've took awhile to reply but i'd love it if u'd adopt me, but i made an agreement with Efil4tselaer: Resurrected that he would help me with editing hip hop articles and you could help me with editing in general, is that ok with you? --Brooklyn Soldier 14:07, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

Canvassing?

Hi. I see that you're active, and I have a question about something I ran into on vandal patrol. Have you ever encountered canvassing? What do you do about it? I noted an editor leaving lots of comments on pages and realized that he's specifically asking people to help save an article on AfD. That seems to qualify as canvassing per my understanding of the policy, but I've never attempted to address it before. --Moonriddengirl 00:18, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Seems like you've gone. :) I'll find somebody on "active." :)--Moonriddengirl 00:26, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
So I was wrong. You're not gone. :D I'll do that, then. I couldn't find a template on it and didn't know if there was a form. Have to wing it. --Moonriddengirl 00:27, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
Ah! Fabulous! Thanks so much. --Moonriddengirl 00:28, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
Somebody else noticed and left a message while I was reading about canvassing and trying to figure out how it's handled. But I'll know next time. I appreciate the advice. :) --Moonriddengirl 00:31, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Username Reports

Hi, whilst we appreciate the effort you're taking to report unsuitable usernames, you've reported a couple that were blocked many months ago. This isn't a problem as reports are automatically removed from WP:UAA if the username is blocked, but I just thought you might like to know. There's no mad rush to report a username, you can check if a user is blocked before reporting them, even if they do edit, it'll be nothing that can't be fixed. There's normally links to the left of each page which show user contributions and logs, if you check there, you can see if they have been blocked or not, that way, you won't be wasting your time reporting a previously blocked username, not that it's a problem, but I thought you might like to know. Kind Regards. Nick 15:23, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

The slightly greek representation of your username

Hi when you sign your edits you use a slightly Greek font for your name, however the 2nd letter you've used is not representing a 'th' but an "l" isn't it? It says 'tle' - I suppose the shape does look a bit like a 'h' though lol so it probably suits your purpose. If you were to write theta-e random editor, it would be less confusing to ancient greek readers, but still understanding to everyone else. Anyway this is just due to my own random educational background lol, so probably pointless to everyone else but I thought I would write. Despite this, I love the font, could you tell me how I can change my signature font?Merkinsmum 17:39, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

Dear Random

If at times you feel you want to cry, and life seems such a trial
Above the clouds there's a bright blue sky, so make your tears a smile.

As you travel on life's way, with its many ups and downs
Remember its quite true to say: one smile is worth a dozen frowns.

Among the worlds expensive things, a smile is very cheap
And when you give a smile away, you get one back to keep.

Happiness comes at times to all, but sadness comes unbidden
And sometimes a few tears must fall, among the laughter hidden.

So when friends have sadness on their face, and troubles round them piled
The world will seem a better place... and all because you smiled!

Love,
Phaedriel

Request for expert attention at payday loan

Hi, your name showed up as a participant at both the finance and economics and business projects pages, and I'm looking for some additional editorial eyes for Payday loan and Predatory lending. I had added a tag for an expert opinion to Talk:Payday loan, and wasn't sure I had done it correctly and don't want to stall editing because of my errors. Do you mind taking a look and provide some editing expertise or feedback on how to increase expert participation? Thanks. Flowanda | Talk 23:47, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

Question.

Hello! I was reading your "Policy" page, and this caught my attention in the RFA section: "The editor has never commited vandalism." I wondered what you would think of a reformed vandal running for adminship (for example, Arjun--though he didn't admit to having been a vandal until much later). Would you support based on their good contributions, or oppose because of their bad track record? Also, you're violating your own policy by being on RFA yourself: "The users name must not be The Random Editor, that is required." ;-) Aowpr 15:26, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

I disagree slightly on the "former vandal" policy, but meh, it's your choice. And I pointed out that you were violating your own policy as a joke as well. :-) Thanks for welcoming me, by the way. Aowpr 21:05, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
Why thank you. I wish I knew what I was really doing though. :P Yes, I have edited a bit before. Aowpr 21:16, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

Congratulations. Here are what pass for words of wisdom from the puppy:
  1. Remember you will always protect the wrong version.
  2. Remember you must always follow the rules, except for when you ignore them. You will always pick the wrong one to do. (See #5)
  3. Remember to assume good faith and not bite. Remember that when you are applying these principles most diligently, you are probably dealing with a troll.
  4. Use the block ability sparingly. Enjoy the insults you receive when you do block.
  5. Remember when you make these errors, someone will be more than happy to point them out to you in dazzling clarity and descriptive terminology.
  6. and finally, Remember to contact me if you ever need assistance, and I will do what I am able.

oh what an evil one! I am stuck and resorted to Liddell and Scott, but I think it comes from sugchaipw- to rejoice with- then sugchareite (don't know how to do the greek font but it looks like what you put and it is the 2nd plural aorist or 2nd passive subjunctive of the above. then the -ia is the hard bit- maybe a sort of state of being? So-

you (plural) were in a state where you rejoiced with, or you might be in a state where you are rejoiced with. (aorist of completed action in the present tense.) Phew! do tell me the answer :)

I don't know how to write in the Greek font yet or I would challenge you:)

Hi, I hope you can help me. I am trying to make the text on my talk page all be <span style="font-family:Trebuchet MS">, but I can't seem to do it. Can you help? Alpta 19:07, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Your userpage!

Well, your userpage is beautiful in my eyes, dear Random, tho it sounds a little vain coming from me! ;) But seriously, I love the color scheme you created, and the navbar is wonderful as well. I'd center the userboxes, but that's small potatoes. As a side note, I'd check your mail, if I were you :) Love, Phaedriel - 05:55, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

Ouch, sweetie, you're fast! :) It looks very good now, congrats! And please, let me know if you ever need assistance with your design, our with those shiny new buttons you've earned ;) Lots of love, Phaedriel - 19:06, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi TRE. I know you're probably very busy but I know that you have alot of experience in various areas of Wikipedia and, if possible, would be grateful if you could take a bit of time to review my contributions and give me a few suggestions on improving my contributions at Wikipedia:Editor review/Tbo 157. Hello there!

Hello! (I'm wondering what I can call you, for "short", do people call you "TRE"? Hee hee.) I noticed that you archived WP:RFCN today, and I thought perhaps you had not seen this discussion, which ended in the consensus of "Discussions are to normally run for at least 24 hours before being closed, and then archived after another 24 hours.", due to some concerns that not everyone may have seen them, even though they may have been speedily closed. Granted, the Rebel one had been up there a significant amount of time, and the Jesus one was speedily closed because user agreed to change, but I just wasn't sure if you knew that routinely they're left up for a day or two, I hope you don't take this wrong, as I mean no disrespect, I just had not seen you close any before, so I thought perhaps I'd let you know about that. Stanley Dunin AfD

Hi there, I've noticed your work at GA, so I thought I'd drop a note about this AfD. I'd recommend you talking a close look at the references and claims made in this article. I get the feeling that things are really not as they appear from reading the Wikipedia article's text. Tim Vickers 00:25, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi again. I've rewritten the lead so the article is now self-consistent. However, the claims are still unverified and he doesn't seem very notable. Can you have another look at the article and see what you think? All the best Tim Vickers 19:10, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

Please unblock me

I'm not VinceB, so please unblock me. I had to create that account to be able to communicate with you only, but unlike VinceB, I have a fix IP address. I respected Wikipedia policies, so I don't understand why you had to immediately indef(!) block me without at least having a chance to email you.
That was not Tankred's first accusation with bad intention (see Checkuser) and now he is angry, because I asked for an RFC on including the Benes decrees in the article Slovakia in which he is involved (see his comments at Talk:Slovakia).
Please at least give me your email address or let my REAL account communicate with you so I can get rid of this fake account. That is not me. If I was VinceB, don't you think I'd just create another sockpuppet instead of fighting for an account? Frankly, it's pretty bizarre and strange when you are being accused of being someone you are not. Everytime Tankred does not like someone's editing, he accuses him of being VinceB.
Please check ALL my contributions and not just the ones mentioned by Tankred. And if you decide to unblock me, please mention in the edit summary it was just a mistake. Thank you. Squash Racket —Preceding unsigned comment added by Please Check Again (talkcontribs) 09:24, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

"Economics" article request for semi-protection

Hello, TRE. Thank you for acting on the above. I left a request of clarification at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection, but you might not be able to respond to it there before it is archived. In any case, could you instead consider looking at a copy of it on my Talk page at User talk:Thomasmeeks#"Economics" article request for semi-protection (with any added comments I can get in there before that)? Thank you. P.S. I read your User page -- all of it. I believe that I am writing the right person, though I am not given to premature optimism. --Thomasmeeks 10:12, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your reply. Indeed you did semi-protect. I regret not being more explicit at User talk:Thomasmeeks#"Economics" article request for semi-protection. Would consider taking another look there? I have added another note (dated 19:15, 26 September 2007) to try to clarify. My thanks. --Thomasmeeks 19:36, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
Thank you, again. Interesting idea. What would you think of this refinement: to see whether or how long it would be before vandalism returned to high levels, say over a 2-week period or 50 Edits, whichever came first? 2-weeks or 50 edits (a provisional number) has the advantage of a reasonable sample size or time period, rather than depending on a possibly temporary lull or surge of vandalism vs. good Edits.
If semi-protection returns (which you would determine), I could write up the result for the Talk page. There are already 2 data points for this article as to removing semi-protect in Spring 2007. In the first case, it did not take long for the previous rate of vandalism to return. In the 2nd case, which was close to the end of the Spring semester, my impression is that vandalism did not return to previous levels until late August, possibly because of the school break. While an immediate extension of semi-protect would have been nice, the knowledge gained from this little experiment might help the article as to guidance for future semi-protect & be of wider interest. My thanks. --Thomasmeeks 22:10, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Squash Racket

Hi. You have unblocked User:Squash Racket upon his request. In his request, he has accused me of many things that were not true, but I was not able to respond because he kept deleting all my comments.[3][4][5] I am still completely confident this is a sockpuppet of VinceB and this opinion is supported also by other users.[6][7]

As to his accusations against me: VinceB has fought against all his blocks and against blocks of his other sockpuppets in the same way, so I am not surprised that he is trying to attack me for reporting him again. This block has nothing to do with the article Benes decrees and that article was not even included in the great amount of evidence I presented at Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/VinceB (4th). My recent edit mentioned by Squash Racket was perfectly in line with the prevailing custom of deleting contributions of blocked sockpuppets. I believe this practice demonstrates to banned sockpuppetmasters futility of their attempts to return to Wikipedia. As for warnings, history of Squash Racket's talk page stores numerous warnings from various users (not only from me). Squash Racket has deleted them all and now claims to be never warned.

As to his arguments: 1. There is no "debate going on how to apply historical Hungarian names for Slovakian places". He is the only user (apart from VinceB and his previously blocked sockpuppets) who constantly violates the convention (WP:NCGN) about this issue. 2. He did not challenge anyhow the fact that only he and an IP of VinceB's range have tried to delete any reference to Slovaks from the series of articles I mentioned at Suspected sock puppets/VinceB (4th). 3. He did not explain similarities between his and VinceB's style of communication and editing patterns.

The most recent Checkuser results give some limited evidence, but are generally inconclusive (see User_talk:Chaser#Squash_Racket). In this context, I would like to note that VinceB has used three different IP ranges (195.56., 91.120., and 84.236.) even while he was still active under his own name. Moreover, he could easily change an ISP since his ban in April.

I hope there is still a chance you will reconsider your decision. Tankred 21:56, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

There is a "debate going on how to apply historical Hungarian names for Slovakian places" as Tankred knows very well. This debate was going on since months until Tankred presented the convention (WP:NCGN) together with his own interpretation on the Hungarian notice-board. According to that it is not possible to use Hungarian names even in historical context. I always protested against this interpretation and other Hungarian users did the same. The topic is not Squash Racket's own mania at all. Zello 22:20, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
You protested, but you have never made any edit violating WP:NCGN. You have publicly admitted that the convention is as it is, although you do not like it. I can provide a diff for your own words if you want. Although there are several other users who do not like WP:NCGN, only Squash Racket and VinceB have been openly violating it. It is just pure coincidence, I guess. And the same is true for all other similarities between them, right? Tankred 22:49, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

I made many edits "violating" WP:NCGN similarly to other Hungarian users and I will make. Obviously I'm not violating the convention but I disregard your interpretation. Other users already pointed out that even this version of the convention allows Hungarian names (in spite of your best efforts). So the debate is still on and there is no difference between Squash Racket's behaviour and others, including mine, except that the topic is more important for him and he is no so tired with debating as me. Zello 22:55, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

I am afraid you are contradicting yourself while saying 'I made many edits "violating" WP:NCGN' and 'I'm not violating the convention'. What I see is isolated activity of VInceB and later of Squash Racket - not a war between Hungary and the rest of the Wikipedia. But this was only one of the similarities between Squash Racket and VinceB. Anyway, I think the owner of this talk page will consider this discussion a spam, so feel free to use my talk page if you want to continue in this discussion. Tankred 23:40, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
You certainly know the meaning of this punctuation mark: "...". But yes it would be spam to continue. Zello 23:46, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
