Blocked (then unblocked) for being a sockpuppet

edit

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for abuse of editing privileges.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please review Wikipedia's guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

Request reason:

My understanding of the events that led to the block is as follows: On my phone, where I was not logged in and with iCloud private relay enabled, I edited wikipedia. (I now know that this is a violation of policy, since private relay blocks your IP Adress) Then, I was blocked. Later, I logged in to Wikipedia with my pre-existing account, since it is nice to be logged in. However, since my IP had been blocked, this was classed as block evasion and so this account was blocked. (On my profile it says it was for abuse of editing privileges, but on the false positive report page OhNoItsJamie has said it was for block evasion) I have now disabled iCould Private Relay on all my devices, and am now signed in as well so I don't think my IP address is used to track my edits any more. Alternatively, if the message on this page is correct and the block was caused by my attempted edits to the Brighton page which were blocked before publishing by an edit filter I will be more respectful in future of previous editor's decisions, and avoid editing on topics with which I have personal ties. TheGnuGod (talk) 15:18, 2 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Accept reason:

User agrees to not attempt to change consensus terminology of Brighton-related articles. If you are indeed an unrelated user, my apologies for the false positive, as the edit that the filter caught was very similar to edits a determined WP:LTA is in the habit of attempting. OhNoitsJamie Talk 14:10, 3 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

You are blocked for evading the same block as you did as User:Brighton beautiful. Please find a new hobby. OhNoitsJamie Talk 15:37, 2 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
I have literally never heard of that account and have no affiliation with them whatsoever. I do not know what you are talking about TheGnuGod (talk) 15:51, 2 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

I presume that I should now just wait until the sockpuppet investigation is over? TheGnuGod (talk) 05:55, 3 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

An SPI isn't necessary here; your attempted edit that was blocked by the filter was pretty obvious. OhNoitsJamie Talk 12:49, 3 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
What is the course of action intended to be taken by a legitimate user supposed to be in this scenario?
I appreciate you are unwilling to perform an SPI due to the "obviousness" but I genuinely do not know what to do.
Also, aren't block appeals supposed to be reviewed by someone other than the one who imposed the block? TheGnuGod (talk) 13:32, 3 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
I also looked at the SPI of Greenfrog23, and what I was doing and the pattern of behaviour you said you had identified aren't even connected.
What I said had nothing to do with if Brighton is a city (it's not). I simply thought the subtitle made Brighton sound like a theme park or something.
If you don't like the edit, I don't mind if you revert it, but I seriously do not think you can justify this as sockpuppeting.
Please let me know if I should put this information (and some more) into a new block appeal. It seems a bit silly to be putting this in the comments. TheGnuGod (talk) 13:38, 3 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
On the off chance that you are not related to the LTA, I'm willing to unblock you if you explicitly agree to not quibble with city/town/resort terminology used in this article or other articles related to Brighton. OhNoitsJamie Talk 13:59, 3 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
I explicitly agree to not quibble (or any other verb for that matter) with city/town/resort terminology used in the Brighton article or articles related to it. TheGnuGod (talk) 14:05, 3 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
Per WP:OWNTALK, you are free to remove this section. OhNoitsJamie Talk 14:14, 3 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
