Barnstar (thanks)Edit

Hi, welcome to Wikipedia and a great thanks for the barnstar :) I hope that you stay and contribute a lot, and you will surely have a number of barnstars! -- Ynhockey (Talk) 13:32, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

Thank you also for the award. From your contributions, you seem to be going alphabetically down a list of users giving them all barnstars. While it is very kind of you to take the time to do that, I hope that you'll also make some edits to the encyclopedia itself as well. If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a note on my talk page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by A Train (talkcontribs) 18:28, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

CE and ADEdit

Offensive content on your userpageEdit

Please remove this content from your userpage, as it is not civil and is a personal attack. I realize that your userpage is yours, but hateful and derogatory content is not acceptable (see here for guidelines). Thank you, Master of Puppets Care to share? 03:13, 26 December 2007 (UTC)

I just removed more offensive content. You seem to think that this is Facebook or some other place where your page is for your friends and your self-expression. It is not. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and user-pages are part of the scaffolding that makes constructing the encyclopedia possible. Inappropriate content is not allowed on user pages, just as it is not allowed on articles pages. Slrubenstein | Talk 09:11, 26 December 2007 (UTC)

Thank You!Edit

Thanks for the barnstar! STORMTRACKER 94 14:59, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the barnstar. That was very kind of you. Is there anything in particular that you found useful about my edits? I notice you are diligently welcoming newcomers - well done. JFW | T@lk 00:02, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

Respectful decline of your barnstarEdit

While I appreciate the spirit of positivity in the barnstar you've offered me, I don't feel I can accept it in good faith, given that it doesn't seem connected to anything I've done, and you appear to be giving them out randomly. In my opinion, barnstars only mean something when they're given in recognition for specific work that an editor has done.

(Besides, insofar as you used once posted a statement that "Gay people and there supporters are not aloud on my user page", I'm apparently not welcome here as someone who believes in equal rights and respect for people of all persuasions. I won't mention the improper use of "there", which is in some ways more offensive.)

I second the comment made above encouraging you to spend more time editing the encyclopædia and less time attempting to build friendships with other people. – Scartol • Tok 05:58, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

and why are my userboxes offensive? the_ed17 16:46, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

and thanks for not responding. This is an ENCYCLOPEDIA!!! Not Myspace. I keep the two separate, I think you can too. Thanks. the_ed17 01:52, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

You need to start editing the encyclopediaEdit

By looking at your contributions, The4532, it seems that you've mistaken Wikipedia for a social network. Your interactions with other users are sometimes provocative and rarely beneficial for the encyclopedia. I suggest that you start making constructive edits to articles. If you continue being disruptive, I will block your account. A Traintalk 18:57, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Brunettes userboxEdit

I just thought I'd let you know that Krimpet (talk · contribs) took it on herself to delete the brunettes userbox you were using. This follows other subjects about women she has chosen to take on herself whether or not they should be on Wikipedia the past two weeks, including starting an "edit war" on the DYK section of the main page.[1] Thought you might want to know.--King Bedford I Seek his grace 23:30, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia Campus Ambassadors wanted in Troy, AlabamaEdit

Hi! I'm leaving you this message because you're a member of WikiProject Alabama. The Wikipedia Ambassador Program is currently looking for Campus Ambassadors to help with Wikipedia assignments at Troy University, which will be participating in the Public Policy Initiative for the Spring 2011 semester. The role of Campus Ambassadors will be to provide face-to-face training and support for students on Wikipedia-related skills (how to edit articles, how to add references, etc.). This includes doing in-class presentations, running workshops and labs, possibly holding office hours, and in general providing in-person mentorship for students.

Prior Wikipedia skills are not required for the role, as training will be provided for all Campus Ambassadors (although, of course, being an experienced editor is a plus).

I know Alabama is a big state, but if you happen to live near Troy and you are interested in being a Wikipedia Campus Ambassador, or know someone else from Troy who might be, please email me or leave a message on my talk page.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 16:33, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

Wikipedia:The 10,000 ChallengeEdit

Hi, at Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge we're striving to bring about 10,000 article improvements and creations for the UK and Ireland and inspire others to create more content. In order to achieve this we need diversity of content, in all parts of the UK and Ireland on all topics. Eventually a regional contest will be held for all parts of the British Isles, like they were for Wales and the Wedt Country. We currently have just over 1900 articles and need contributors! If you think you'd be interested in collaborating on this and helping reach the target quicker, please sign up and begin listing your entries there as soon as possible! Thanks.♦ --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:40, 28 September 2016 (UTC)

Invite to the African DestubathonEdit

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most geography, wildlife and women articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing, whether it's a river in Malawi, a Nigerian footballer, or a South African civil rights activist, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. For those of you who signed up to the North African contest, that will hopefully be held in the new year. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:11, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

Latin American 10,000 Challenge inviteEdit

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Latin America/The 10,000 Challenge ‎ has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Brazil, Mexico, Peru and Argentina etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Latin American content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon. If you would like to see this happening for Latin America, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Latin America, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant!♦ --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 00:55, 27 October 2016 (UTC)

Europe 10,000 Challenge inviteEdit

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:09, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

Wikipedia:WikiProject United States/The 50,000 ChallengeEdit

You are invited to participate in the 50,000 Challenge, aiming for 50,000 article improvements and creations for articles relating to the United States. This effort began on November 1, 2016 and to reach our goal, we will need editors like you to participate, expand, and create. See more here!

New deal for page patrollersEdit

Hi The4532,

In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.

Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.

Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:29, 13 November 2016 (UTC)

New 10,000 Challenge for CanadaEdit

Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Canada/The 10,000 Challenge is up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge for the UK which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. If you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Canada like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1600 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for Canada but fuelled by a contest such as The North America Destubathon to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. I would like some support from Canadian wikipedians here to get the Challenge off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile! Cheers. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:55, 22 November 2016 (UTC)

WikiProject Women in Red/The World ContestEdit

Hi. This month The Women in Red World Contest is being held to try to produce new articles for as many countries worldwide and occupations as possible. There is over £3000 in prizes to win, including Amazon vouchers and paid subscriptions. Wikimedia UK is putting up £250 specifically for editors who produce the most quality new women bios for British women, with special consideration given to missing notable biographies from the Oxford Dictionary of Biography and Welsh Dictionary of Biography. If you're not interested in prize money yourself but are willing to participate independently this is also fine, but please add any articles created to the bottom of the main contest page even if not competing. Your participation in the contest and contributing articles on British women from your area or wherever would we much appreciated. Thanks.

Women in Red World ContestEdit

Hi. We're into the last five days of the Women in Red World Contest. There's a new bonus prize of $200 worth of books of your choice to win for creating the most new women biographies between 0:00 on the 26th and 23:59 on 30th November. If you've been contributing to the contest, thank you for your support, we've produced over 2000 articles. If you haven't contributed yet, we would appreciate you taking the time to add entries to our articles achievements list by the end of the month. Thank you, and if participating, good luck with the finale!
