Proposed deletion of Tess Johnson

edit

The article Tess Johnson has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, all newly created biographies of living persons must have at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article. The nominator also raised the following concern:

All biographies of living people created after March 18, 2010, must have references.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one.   Welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I noticed that your username (Tessjohnsoninc) may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because the username suggests the account may be representing Tess Johnson. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username, or you may simply create a new account to use for editing. Thank you. SwisterTwister talk 22:43, 5 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. Please read the following carefully.

Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, celebrity or other well-known individual, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not. See WP:FAQ/Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

What can I do now?

You are still welcome to write about something other than your company, organization, or clients. If you do intend to make useful contributions on some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.

Request reason:

I have been following Tess Johnson since the start of her collection in Saks Fifth, to her TV appearance on 24 Hour Catwalk, and to her costume designs with Olympic Skaters Jeremy Abbot, USA and Patrick Chan, Canadian. I believe that Tess Johnson deserves to have a wiki page with a following of 24 Hour Catwalk viewers. This page I have created has not been done for promotional purposes. I will take out future material and edit as the future events happen. I will take out any material you feel not sufficient for Wiki. I follow her Twitter and she has become a somewhat of a mentor figure. I am brand new user to Wikipedia and this is a learning experience and I would like to be able to advance through errors. Thank You

Decline reason:

The first thing you need to do is choose a new username - Wikipedia doesn't allow usernames that are the same as well-known living people, and also doesn't allow usernames that sound like they represent a group or organization (the ..."inc"). So please follow the instructions in the block notice to request a new username. Also, if you believe Ms Johnson satisfies Wikipedia's WP:N notability requirements, please can you identify several reliable sources that satisfy the requirements of WP:RS. And finally, can you please answer the question below from Amatulić. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 20:37, 6 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Only one unblock template is needed. I have deleted the shorter one.

Your username, ending in "inc", implies an employment relationship with a brand of women's clothing. Would you elaborate on that please? ~Amatulić (talk) 19:49, 6 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

I apologize for the additional template. Now, reading through the wiki unblock policies, I thought I had to send one to unblock the material, Jim and one to unblock the username. Tess Johnson does not have any clothing line. I was in the process of starting a fan blog and named the username out of convenience. I did not know about the username policy until I had adapted the user page into an article. I have submitted for a username change to be yellowishcorn. Please let me know if there are any questions or any material that seems to affect policy regulation.

Decline reason:

Technical decline - use the {{unblock-spamun}} template here on this page to suggest a new user name, as explained in the block notice. (Also, in the deleted Tess Johnson article, you wrote "Tess Johnson is currently working on opening Tess Johnson Inc., a high end women's wear brand", so it doesn't sound like you are being completely honest with us here). -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 08:33, 7 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

I am 100 percent being honest. I have heard through blogs that she is starting a clothing line. And it is my fault for having projected future outcomes that may or may not happen. In no way, was that intended for promotion. I am realizing more and more all the faults I have made with the wiki on Tess Johnson. My daily usage of usernames have never conflicted with policy procedures and I do not intend to start. I have always thought of a username as a password to have an account and to log into as a user. There was not intention of connecting the two together. Is there a chance for me to re-edit the wiki page and adjust to a more historical past event situations that have happened? And then have wiki review for article status because I am understanding and seeing more and more of my mistakes that I have made

Decline reason:

Since you've opened one for a username change, this one is no longer relevant. — Daniel Case (talk) 02:45, 8 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Your proposed username is acceptable. Please answer two questions regarding the other issues with your previous edits:
  • Do you understand that if Ms. Johnson has not been the subject of multiple reliable sources unrelated to her, she would not pass our notability guidelines, and so we could not accept an article on her at all? This is especially non-negotiable when the subject is a living person.
  • Do you understand if sufficient sources for an article on her do exist, that the article, as with all articles on Wikipedia, must be written in a strictly neutral tone? Seraphimblade Talk to me 00:40, 8 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hello, YellowishCorn. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. Electriccatfish2 (talk) 20:13, 18 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
