Deleting sourced and relevant additions to articles for no reason is vandalism. Wiki is about building articles from the contributions of many people - not one editor's ideas. What CM wants or doesn't want in the article is not relevant. Wikiepedia is not PR. It is too late to go back and make herself sound like Samuel Beckett. The policy of No original research applies too. If it is good enough for the Grauniad, it is good enough for us. Please pass on to her my thanks and admiration for her openness about her sexuality - it is as healthy and normal to love men and women (in any chosen combination and proportion) as a cool breeze on a summer's day. A random question from someone you've never met!

Hi! I found your user page simply by looking for people who speak Spanish (based on one of your user boxes), so apologies if this seems like something from out-of-nowhere. I was wondering if you could help me with something small, but Spanish-related. I'd like to ask a Spanish-speaking Flickr user if they would grant GFDL permission for the use of an image of theirs. So, I was wondering if you could help me compose a letter to that person, obviously in Spanish, that does so. Specifically, I would need a request for permission translated, and then help with any additional correspondence. Actually, to make things even simpler, that page has a Spanish equivalent (es:Wikipedia:Modelo de petición para la reproducción de imágenes, though there doesn't seem to be alot of stuff on that page, so maybe not), so perhaps you could recommend one of those pre-fabricated letters, and help me plug-in all the necessary info. Autofiction

Is this used in English and isn't it just another word for memoir?Zigzig20s (talk) 21:37, 19 September 2008 (UTC) It's not widely used in English (though it is routinely used in university courses about literary criticism, and has been the subject of articles in the London Review of Books and elsewhere). I agree it's a troublesome genre, it is one of the key concepts of contemporary French literature with many adherents (from Serge Doubrovsky through Annie Ernaux to Hervé Guibert, Marie Darrieussecq and Christine Angot, though some it is possible to retroactively claim Proust's A la recherche du temps perdu is autofiction). It is not analogous to a memoir, which is (or claims to be) a true account of personal events in that autofiction deliberately appropriates fictional tropes, fictionalises real-life events, making it an "autobiographical novel". It's close to what Truman Capote (referring to "In Cold Blood") called "faction".

Well, a memoir is supposed to be slightly fictional, whereas an autobiography is not. Perhaps it goes like this autobiography > memoir > autofiction (from the more matter-of-fact to the more fictional). Anyway, I have heard the term in French, I just wasn't sure it was used in English.Zigzig20s (talk) 11:53, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
