Hello! Voting in the 2020 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 7 December 2020. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2020 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 03:02, 24 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Use of fake news black hat SEO sources on Alex Kinter (director) = editing privileges revoked. MER-C 11:23, 15 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

I've created an article about director Alex Kinter and was blocked a few weeks later for "spam". However, I'm not a newbie here and from time to time I contribute to various topics. I've created a few articles previously about persons and I did not get any remarks or comments. For almost 2 years I'm on Wikipedia. I think, I should have been warned or commented If I made some mistake. Is the article I've created is about a not notable subject, so there is another way to explain it. I think my blocking is groundless. If you check my edit count you can see that I didn't promote anyone, abuse the rules or do any violations. I decided to create an articled about a living person and searched deep for all possible links to make it verifiable. I don't now if they are "black hat SEO" or not. I was relying on WP:RSP. But now, I'm blamed of being a spammer. I'm really sad about that fact and ask to review the decision. I can provide any information if needed. Best regards Taniatos (talk) 10:10, 18 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

Consultation with blocking admin confirms pattern of spam/UPE behavior, which is unaddressed by unblock request. Go Phightins! 10:08, 31 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. @MER-C: Going through some older unblock requests and stumbled on this one. Might you say a bit more about what led you to the conclusion that this was covert advertising? Looking at the draft in question, some of those sources are not high-quality, but it wasn't jumping out at me which ones led to the conclusion that this all warranted an indef. Go Phightins! 21:09, 30 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
(To be clear, some of the sources cited are obviously press releases [1] [2] etc. I guess I was just hoping for a bit of clarity as to what distinguished this as spam requiring a block rather than just an article that didn't yet belong in mainspace as a look at the editor's other history doesn't scream WP:NOTHERE to me.) Go Phightins! 21:12, 30 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
Vents Magazine and Daily Tech Geek. Use of black hat SEO sites as sources is 100% indicative of UPE. There's also another powerful red flag for this account which I will not talk about publicly. MER-C 09:18, 31 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
MER-C, OK. Well, seeing what I see as an uninvolved admin just going through unblock requests, the fact pattern I see is:
  1. An editor who has been here for a little while and gnomed about with some decent contributions on various pages over a period of months.
  2. A block without any warnings about spam in the past (for an article that does, of course, include some likely spam links) ... though reviewing the contribution history, there are one or two other article creations that do look questionable.
  3. An editor who at least purports to be confused about why he or she has been blocked.
I'm not questioning whether it was an appropriate block, but if it was taken based on more than what's in the block log, it's rather hard for anyone else to assess. Based only on what I see, I'd be inclined to think about what an unblock might look like; if there's more, though, I obviously am unaware of that. Go Phightins! 09:40, 31 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

If I creaed a bad article, then please give me another chance. I give a word I won't be publishing anything connected to biographies of living persons, companies, brands, etc. I did not look carefully at links I've added and they do really look spammy. I am not sure why I was blocked so severily but do hope you will take my request into consideration. I read the blocking policy and found out that I have all the reasons to be unblocked. I swear again to edit carefully and correct all my mistakes. Just let me know and help to become an experienced wikipedian. Taniatos (talk) 13:03, 5 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

There is nothing of substance in this request. Until you are honest about any connection you have with the subjects of your edits, there is no pathway forward here. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 15:22, 6 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
