Youtube videos

edit

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and relies on reliable sources for verifiability. Youtube does not even get close to meeting that standard, nor do Amazon sales blurbs (which do no mention the subject). Please keep that in mind when editing. Thanks. Kleuske (talk) 12:55, 22 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, I will keep that in mind. Swinginginair (talk) 14:21, 24 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Page numbers/timestamps

edit

Hi @Swinginginair! Thanks for your contributions to the Lindy Hop article — it's not our strongest article, so it can certainly use the work, and I hope you continue making improvements.

I noticed that you added a few book sources, which are excellent sources, but you didn't include page numbers. It'd be help if you could add those (using the |pages= parameter as described here), as it makes it a lot easier for others to verify the material. If you have any trouble doing that, feel free to let me know, and I'll be happy to provide technical help. General info about referencing is at Help:REFSTART. May 2023

edit

Hello, I'm Idontknowwhattouseasmyusername300. I wanted to let you know that one or more external links you added to Lindy Hop have been removed because they seemed to be inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page, or take a look at our guidelines about links. Thank you. Idontknowwhattouseasmyusername300 (talk) 15:24, 22 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, I'm brand new at this. Swinginginair (talk) 15:35, 22 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at History of Lindy Hop. Your edits continue to appear to constitute vandalism and have been automatically reverted.

  • If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Note that human editors do monitor recent changes to Wikipedia articles, and administrators have the ability to block users from editing if they repeatedly engage in vandalism.
  • ClueBot NG makes very few mistakes, but it does happen. If you believe the change you made should not have been considered as unconstructive, please read about it, report it here, remove this warning from your talk page, and then make the edit again.
  • If you need help, please see our help pages, and if you can't find what you are looking for there, please feel free to place {{Help me}} on your talk page and someone will drop by to help.
  • The following is the log entry regarding this warning: History of Lindy Hop was changed by Swinginginair (u) (t) ANN scored at 0.948406 on 2023-05-22T21:33:44+00:00

Thank you. ClueBot NG (talk) 21:33, 22 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Swinginginair! Sorry about these notices. @Idontknowwhattouseasmyusername300 is a patroller who goes through hundreds of edits looking for vandalism. They made what I presume was a snap judgement and reverted your edit here, but it looks to me like they were a bit over-eager.
In your edit, you added an external link to the Pasadena Ballroom Dance Association, which is something that should be avoided, as we use external links only at the end of articles in the external links section, and even then only sparingly. But the rest of your edit, in which you added a paragraph on Lindy Hop history, looks fine at a quick glance. It looks like you've since been able to restore that material, fortunately.
The second notice here is from ClueBot, which is not a person but an automated account. It mistakenly flagged your work as vandalism and reverted a bunch of it. Feel free to restore whatever you think is needed to improve the article. (Please don't add a redirect from History of Lindy Hop to Lindy Hop, though, as that effectively hides the history page.)
Feel free to let me know if you have any questions, and thanks again for working on this topic area. Cheers, {{u|Sdkb}}talk 23:36, 22 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
I know, this thing is pretty bad as far as info goes. Thank you everyone for your hard work! Swinginginair (talk) 01:06, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Indeed. I've tweaked your edits a bit further. I don't know anything about this subject; the article's only on my watchlist because of long-term vandalism from 2012, when it was even back then in a fairly abysmal state. Graham87 06:03, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for everything that you do! Swinginginair (talk) 11:25, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at History of Lindy Hop. Your edits appear to constitute vandalism and have been reverted. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. Repeated vandalism may result in the loss of editing privileges. Thank you.Trainerkn (talk) 00:00, 25 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Swinginginair, I'm not sure what exactly you're doing between History of Lindy Hop and Lindy Hop, and it appears Trainerkn isn't either. You talk about merging them in your edit summary. That would not be a good idea. We want to have two pages: History of Lindy Hop, which gives lots of detail since that's the entire article, and Lindy Hop, which gives a more condensed version of the history in the history section. Please check with others before doing something as significant as a merge — we are here and can answer questions. {{u|Sdkb}}talk 02:02, 25 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Ok, thanks will do. Swinginginair (talk) 03:00, 25 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
