You need to add Xxxtentacion’s SAD music video on the list

@NoTalent77: do you have a reliable source to back that up? stwalkerster (talk) 13:03, 2 July 2018 (UTC)

  Guideline and policy news

  • An RfC about the deletion of drafts closed with a consensus to change the wording of WP:NMFD. Specifically, a draft that has been repeatedly resubmitted and declined at AfC without any substantial improvement may be deleted at MfD if consensus determines that it is unlikely to ever meet the requirements for mainspace and it otherwise meets one of the reasons for deletion outlined in the deletion policy.
  • A request for comment closed with a consensus that the {{promising draft}} template cannot be used to indefinitely prevent a WP:G13 speedy deletion nomination.

  Technical news

  • Starting on July 9, the WMF Security team, Trust & Safety, and the broader technical community will be seeking input on an upcoming change that will restrict editing of site-wide JavaScript and CSS to a new technical administrators user group. Bureaucrats and stewards will be able to grant this right per a community-defined process. The intention is to reduce the number of accounts who can edit frontend code to those who actually need to, which in turn lessens the risk of malicious code being added that compromises the security and privacy of everyone who accesses Wikipedia. For more information, please review the FAQ.
  • Syntax highlighting has been graduated from a Beta feature on the English Wikipedia. To enable this feature, click the highlighter icon ( ) in your editing toolbar (or under the hamburger menu in the 2017 wikitext editor). This feature can help prevent you from making mistakes when editing complex templates.
  • IP-based cookie blocks should be deployed to English Wikipedia in July (previously scheduled for June). This will cause the block of a logged-out user to be reloaded if they change IPs. This means in most cases, you may no longer need to do /64 range blocks on residential IPv6 addresses in order to effectively block the end user. It will also help combat abuse from IP hoppers in general. For the time being, it only affects users of the desktop interface.

  Miscellaneous

  • Currently around 20% of admins have enabled two-factor authentication, up from 17% a year ago. If you haven't already enabled it, please consider doing so. Regardless if you use 2FA, please practice appropriate account security by ensuring your password is secure and unique to Wikimedia.

A barnstar for you!

  The Real Life Barnstar
A big thank you from me, Ewan and Sara for coming along to last night's Scotwiki meetup and sharing all your awesome admin knowledge with us. I hope we can work on better future collaborations between the Scottish admin and outreach teams together in future. Delphine Dallison (talk) 10:58, 12 July 2018 (UTC)

Reporting Vandalism

Hi,

I report vandalisms happening on Murabit al-Hajj page. Author is an IP, but this user, Bruh32123 edited the Deaths in 2018 inserting fake news, which I consider vandalism. Maybe an IP check would be useful, to determine if he is al-Hajj's vandal. You surely know what to do. Thanks in advance, --Folengo (talk) 19:19, 18 July 2018 (UTC)

@Folengo: a few things - firstly, the IP which vandalised the Murabit al-Hajj page has already been blocked for about 50 minutes.
Secondly, you might want to read over the Responding to Vandalism page - we have a defined series of warnings to be issued to users who are vandalising to avoid biting newer users too badly and promote reform into good editors, and have a much better effect than an "I'm reporting you" threat.
Finally, unless there is a good reason to check a user's underlying IP address, this is not done for simple vandalism where the standard procedures can be used.
Thanks for keeping an eye out for vandalism though! stwalkerster (talk) 19:31, 18 July 2018 (UTC)

Guiding productive editors

Please could you give me some advice as to how to handle the two accounts used by Norvikk: User:Norvikk and User:Getgotgotten ?

Both of these accounts do fantastic work in keeping our more than 200 Visa requirements for nnnn citizens articles up-to-date and current.

However, I do believe that these articles are not exempt from our general policies and Manual of Style and today User:Getgotgotten seems to have gone on reversion spree without offering any rationale for flouting policy. The only common thread seems to be that he seems intent on reverting a large number of my recent edits.

The situation is made more difficult by his refusal to engage in dialogue.

He is currently blocked, but there seems little point in my continuing to try and edit Wikipedia and make a better encyclopedia if all my edits are going to continue to be stalked and reverted by a two-account tag team... --BushelCandle (talk) 20:16, 22 July 2018 (UTC)

I don't understand why my speed is bad. If you can't work fast that's your problem. Don't envy. You're are always whining. You're always complaining. You've been told a lot about your children behavior. But you're not listening. You're stubborn. Norvikk (talk) 20:25, 22 July 2018 (UTC)

Blocked 60h for NPA - "You're are always whining". Or very likely sockpuppetry. Take your pick. SQLQuery me! 20:28, 22 July 2018 (UTC)
It's not your speed that's a problem, Norvikk, that's a commendable virtue as long as it does not sacrifice accuracy. The problem is when you continually refuse to use edit summaries even when your reverts ostensibly flout the policy or policies mentioned in the very edits you are so rapidly reverting. Please don't get me wrong - I wish you to remain a productive editor while becoming more collegiate and transparent - not continually blocked or banned for one reason or another... --BushelCandle (talk) 20:53, 22 July 2018 (UTC)

editing entry for rebecca posner

I inserted the date of Prof Posner's death because I had been informed of it by her daughter. There is no public reference that I can provide for that but it remains a fact nevertheless. Nbvint (talk) 08:00, 25 July 2018 (UTC)

@Nbvint: OK, then we will need to wait for a reference to become available. We need verifiability for readers so they can be sure that a statement has not been invented - our policy on biographies of living (and recently deceased) people actually requires it. It's not an issue for the article to be a little out-of-date - we're an encyclopedia, not a news source.
Please pass my condolences to Professor Posner's daughter - and please understand that these policies are strict to protect article subjects from contentious information. stwalkerster (talk) 08:05, 25 July 2018 (UTC)
