There is a way to get more images on wikipedia for this topic, if you are interested. It relies on {{PD-US-patent}}, and I guess many metamaterial-related inventions are patented. There are many patent databases, like Google patents. They usually give only poor black/white copies, but this is enough to establish the PD status, and then grab a colored version from the related website, i.e., I would start from a webpage and search patents by a keyword + potential author, but you know this topic much better. Cheers. Materialscientist (talk) 05:51, 19 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thank you. This is very much appreciated. Also, this is a very good idea. I am very much interested and this coincides with a recent desire to find PD images pertaining to this topic. Regards. ---- Steve Quinn (talk) 01:32, 20 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Biomedicine journals

edit

Hi Steve, I don't think that this cat is necessary. It would contain a huge amount of journal articles: all medical journal, all nursing journals, all public health journals, and the majority of life sciences (biology) journals... Which journals specifically do you think should go in her? Perhaps we can come up with an alternative (more descriptive) name. --Guillaume2303 (talk) 12:30, 29 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

  • After what you wrote above I can see that my idea of biomedicine is too narrow compared to what it is. So I am requesting that the categroy be deleted. There are plenty of categories on Wikipedia and I won't lose any sleep if biomedicine is not one of them.

Thanks for uploading File:Jama 11-2007 cover.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Guillaume2303 (talk) 07:52, 12 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Insurance Medicine

edit

Hello Steve.

The article aboute insurance medicine is deleted again. Du you maybe know, why this is the case? I haven changed nothings since months. Bit now they are saying that copyrights are broken. This is not correct. Authors etc. has been alway cited. If this is copyright. I can not work anymore, because then I copy everything. I'm a researcher. Hi Steve.

Thanks for your information. I have not copied directly (also the German page was written by me). But sure I have taken information form other websites. That is normal in the research-world. You must take sources from other pages, because otherwise they Wikipedia will say that everything is fictitious. But I have always mentioned the sources in my former article. I will mention that I don't write it again. Now I can understand, why Wikipadia has such a bad reputation in connection to this theme. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bergfex (talkcontribs) 12:50, 24 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Dispute on Science section of the Freud page

edit

Steve: This may not be your normal topic of interest (though it does relate to the scientific credentials of Freud's theories). There has been a long-running dispute about the Science section of the Freud page, and it has reached an impasse. If you are interested in checking it out and, hopefully, voicing an opinion on the Talk page, here is the link: [2]

After the first few comments to get the flavour of the dispute, you should skip the endless point/counterpoint that follows, and jump to the contributions at the end of the section, those added in the last few days.

I hope you can find time to have a look at the issue and come in on the discussion. Esterson (talk) 13:48, 25 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your response on my Talk page. I appreciate your time is limited - fortunately, as you say, several other editors have now come in on the issue on the Dispute page. After weeks of wrangling on the Freud Talk page, Almanacer has now reduced his five lines devoted to Levy's views to two. I still have objections that I've stated on the Dispute page, and asked editors to choose between my paragraph and his. But there is now no need for you to bother with this! Esterson (talk) 07:52, 30 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
I'm glad it's working out. If the two lines in question are WP:OR or in contradiction to WP:NPOV I can understand your concern. ---- Steve Quinn (talk) 11:43, 30 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Mining engineering journals

edit

I noticed that you created the International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences article. The mining engineering journals seem to be underrepresented on Wikipedia. I was wondering if you'd take a look at the list at List of engineering journals and magazines#Mining engineering and see if there are any articles that you'd like to create. They are listed there in approximate H-Index order (highest to lowest), but the list at Microsoft's academic page seems to be out of date. --Bejnar (talk) 00:11, 10 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

DNA digital data storage

Hi Steve, the now-renamed DNA digital data storage is a start, but the article reads like a news report about the Goldman/Birney article rather than an encyclopedia article. I'm planning to revisit when I've done reading around, but George Church has also recently conducted work on using DNA for digital storage and the idea and various proposals have been around for decades. Interested that you made a book on this topic using the book tool. As you've probably seen, you can either make a book in your own user space or a "community book" in the book space. There are some community books listed on Wikipedia:Wikiproject Psychology. It might be a good idea to create yours as a community book and add it there. File source problem with File:IEEE Trans Antenn & Prop coverimage.gif

Thank you for uploading File:IEEE Trans Antenn & Prop coverimage.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

  • Hi Steve,as it now stands, this image has no "non-free" template on it. If it is a journal cover, it should have {{non-free magazine cover|image_has_rationale=yes}} on the page. If it's a logo, that should be {{non-free logo|image_has_rationale=yes}}. I think it is the latter. You can see a full journal cover here. Our image is not the whole cover, but a cropped version containing only the journal logo. This page uses the same image as a logo, too. Whatever the case may be, it needs a "non-free" template. Cheers! --Randykitty (talk) 17:49, 27 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • Randy, thanks for pointing out the need for a "non-free" template. Personally, I could not decide if it is a logo or magazine cover. So, it looks more like a logo to me at this time. Therefore, I added the non-free logo template which you provided. Thanks for your help, and in particular, thanks for providing the template. I would have to search for it if you hadn't provided it. Also, in general, thanks for adhering to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. ---- Steve Quinn (talk) 16:38, 30 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Linking question

edit

Hi Steve, a question about links for you: If a person is mentioned in two separate entries (but is not prominent enough to have an entry of their own), is there any way of flagging the fact that there are two mentions so that the reader will know that the Bob Smith in one entry is the same as the Bob Smith in the other? Many thanks Magnusmagnussen (talk) 15:46, 20 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

  • Hi thanks for your inquiry. I have some ideas, but I think it would be more helpful if I knew what articles you are talking about. I am really not sure how to accomplish what you are asking, but if I can see the circumstances directly I may be able to come up with something. However, I can't promise anything. ---- 23:21, 21 May 2013 (UTC)

Surely if is obviously there for no other reason than to make money, it is not in the spirit of Wikipedia.   Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Heliophysics Science Division may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s and 1 "{}"s likely mistaking one for another. If you have, don't worry, just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

List of unpaired brackets remaining on the page:

How you interpret consensus is unclear. Four editors have commented on the topic on the talk page. Three agree with the edit. Bring your opinion to the talk page if you're interested in contributing to the discussion.

The Ulrich reference is out of date. The journal's direction has changed recently and the publication material no longer uses the term "peer-reviewed" to describe itself.
