LOL! I only just showed my brother in law (and my curious sister, by association) all that this afternoon, and he had a similar comment. He thought it was an Italian cigarette. /:| —  $PЯINGεrαgђ  03:51 16 June, 2008 (UTC)

Symphonic poem and thematic transformation

edit

Noticed on the "To do" list for Talk:Franz Liszt that you mentioned wanting to do some work on Liszt and the symphonic poem. I've already been greatly expanding the symphonic poem article, which could be died in. I've also started a brief article on thematic transformation, for which Liszt is also noted. Please feel free to use and pass on the info. Jonyungk (talk) 18:34, 15 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Well, I do need to get out more. Not many people use edit summaries to sing Postal Service lyrics. Though I should be excused; I saw Death Cab for Cutie live last (Wed) night. Sceptre (talk) 01:39, 18 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Just under 49,000, actually. If I can be bothered, I might aim to break 50,000 today. I've got no TV to watch and no summer job to go to... Sceptre (talk) 13:44, 22 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
A month, maybe, and you're going to have ten times as many as I have—wishful thinking says that I'll have 7000 and you'll have 70000? ;) —  $PЯINGεrαgђ  00:40 23 July, 2008 (UTC)

Nonnotable Recordings

edit

Hello, I'm wondering why you reverted my recent edits. I was rolling back edits that conflicted with WP:NOTE, WP:NOTLINK, WP:LINKSPAM, WP:COI, and WP:FRINGE. The recordings were completely nonnotable and did nothing to help the articles they were in, in fact they are irrepresentative of mainstream performance practice and were placed there by an account created just to spread their popularity. Themfromspace (talk) 00:56, 23 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

I beg to differ. Was there a recording of an arrangement for rock band of Beethoven's Symphony No. 3 on the Symphony No. 9 (Bruckner) page? Did we have a silent video of a performance of Beethoven's Ninth? No. Unless you can prove to me that Wikipedia has sunk so low that it prohibits recordings and videos (with audio) of certain works on the relevant article pages, I will not believe that having one there violated a principle. —  $PЯINGεrαgђ  04:20 23 July, 2008 (UTC)

Could you do me the favor of reading this article and letting me know what you think? Thanks! Jonyungk (talk) 18:42, 28 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Very good, but why all the photographs of the composers? I think that if someone wanted to know what they looked like, they could click the links to their names. —  $PЯINGεrαgђ  02:05 29 July, 2008 (UTC)
Part of my publishing background—break up the page visually to make it more attractive so people will be more likely to read it. Wonder if that's true for Wiki readers as well? Jonyungk (talk) 04:30, 29 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Not at all, provided it isn't ridiculously long. :) (Mine has, at times, stretched the boundaries of reasonable length.) What did you have in mind? —  $PЯINGεrαgђ  23:29 31 July, 2008 (UTC)
Not too ridiculously long. Something along the lines of what you did for yourself—simply the uder name with a different set of type font(s). Jonyungk (talk) 00:03, 2 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hmm…something like JON¥OUИG К? :P I can't really replace as many of the letters of your name (although now that I look at mine I didn't do that many with mine, either). —  $PЯINGεrαgђ  00:31 2 August, 2008 (UTC)
You've got the idea. (-: Jonyungk (talk) 04:34, 2 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
Well, play with it yourself, and once you've got the exact thing you want, tell me what colour and what background colour you want, and I'll do the formatting. —  $PЯINGεrαgђ  04:36 2 August, 2008 (UTC)
Greetings Springeragh! Talk page stalker here. Slightly related question -- see the end of this post -- how do you get characters to turn upside down? There are many humorous possibilities inherent in this.  :) Antandrus (talk) 04:43, 2 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks to everyone who participated in my RfA, regardless of their !vote. I have withdrawn the nomination as a failure at 19 supports, 45 opposes, and 9 neutral statements.

As has been written and sung, you can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you get what you need — and what I need is to go back to working on our shared project. Not everyone has to be an admin; there is a role for each of us. After reflection, I feel I don't have the temperament to secure community consensus as an admin at any point, and I will not be applying again in the future — and hey, that's all right, 'cause I stay true to the philosophy that adminship is no big deal: I tried, I failed, and now I'll return to doing what I've always done. I have an extremely strong belief in the consensus process, and the consensus was clear. I will be devoting my energies to volunteering at MedCab and working up a complete series of articles on the short stories of Ernest Hemingway, among lord knows what else. Thanks again to everyone who spared the time to weigh in on this one. It was made in better faith than it probably seemed.

Re: your comments...I think the fact that there were, like, twenty near-identical oppose votes before you showed up speaks to the fact that my candidacy had numerous and obvious problems. Most of the oppose votes were reasonable and hard to argue with. Thanks for participating, and hope to see you around while working on the 'pedia. Rachmaninoff spelling

edit
Hi, Springeragh. I googled "Rachmaninoff spelling" and the first hit was this. It’s not a primary source, though. (And it might mean we have spell his patronymic Vassilievitch (with a t - ugh!), because there’s probably an argument that if we’re governed by his own spelling of his surname, we should also be governed by his own spelling of his patronymic. So, being a secondary source, I discount it.) However, I found this, which contains a photo of his signature – “S. Rachmaninoff” – and a small discussion of the issue, which tells us this is how his name appears in his ID papers, on his tombstone, and used by his heirs to this day. -- JackofOz (talk) 19:48, 7 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yes; the PDF would definitely work as a source. —  $PЯINGεrαgђ  20:12 7 September, 2008 (UTC)

WikiProject Novels Roll Call

WikiProject Novels is currently holding a roll call, which we hope to have annually. Your username is listed on the members list, but we are unsure as to which editors are still active within the project. If you still consider yourself an active WP:Novels editor, please add your name back to the Active Members list. Also feel free to join any of our task forces and take a look at the project's Job Centre to get involved!

Next month we will begin the coordinator election selection process. We hope to have more involvement and input this time around! More news will be forthcoming. Thanks, everyone! María (habla conmigo) 13:43, 9 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. I'lll wait for that sucking sound. :-) BTW, how can I set up my talk page to archive itself after every, say, 20 entries, as yours does, without zapping it into limbl as I did last time I attempted archiving? Thanks! Jonyungk (talk) 17:11, 19 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
I do it manually. And actually I wait until it's gone a little past so there's something left after I zap the old 25 threads. —  $PЯINGεrαgђ  02:52 20 September, 2008 (UTC)

Question about Sceptre

edit

You seemed to know and chat with him a lot... I was gone from the Wiki for awhile, came back to notice he's been blocked and apparently has some long story about it. I don't want to badger him via email (if he is even available through same) but I was wondering if you could give me a rough idea of what happened. Thanks, --tennisman 18:51, 20 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I know, but I don't think I would be comfortable telling you without his permission (and if I get it, which he probably won't have a problem with, I'll e-mail you). I'll get back to you in a few days about it. —  $PЯINGεrαgђ  04:24 21 October, 2008 (UTC)
Heh, you responded here and on my page lulz. Anyway, I understand you not feeling comfortable; I might try to email him...or not, I didn't really know him that well. By the way, what ever happened with you RfA'ing? --tennisman 11:09, 21 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Late works of Liszt
