Re:Orphaned non-free image (File:Nobody'sTune.jpg) edit

The reason the image is orphaned at the moment is that I am just about to create the article on Nobody's Tune (as in tomorrow), once I add more content to it. It is currently waiting for this at a subpage of my userpage (Spaces). Can the tag be removed now? MasterOfHisOwnDomain (talk) 18:41, 5 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hello. Thank you for your comment on that picture. www.robindelcastillo.com has indeed "all rights reserved". However I did obtain the official authorization from both the artist (Robin del Castillo) and the webdesigner (Sacha Mourain) to use this picture. On 2008-12-30 at 0834 UTC you nominated File:Guffaw.gif for deletion, but appear to have never listed it at Wikipedia:Files for deletion/2008 December 30, and as such there was never a discussion on its deletion/retention. Uploading Image edit

Hi thank you for leaving me this

Take a look at these examples File:Predynastic collage.png - File:Christmas collage.PNG; both of them show in the "summary section" the sources (in order) for each of the images that's included in the collage. Please note to make sure that you're using "free" images, as the use of non-free images (such as logos) is restricted to specific pages. Skier Dude (talk) 03:09, 10 September 2009 (UTC)

I just wanted to cleaify though would I upload it as "my own work" and then in the description reference each picture with the wikipedia link to the image? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jordo72 (talkcontribs) 03:23, 10 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion tag on template edit

I noticed on my watchlist today that you'd tagged Template_talk:Divbegin for speedy deletion as an unused template. Apart from being surprised that the tag had been added to the talk page rather than the template page itself, I was surprised by the tagging in general. I don't believe that this template is unused — I was just wondering if I could understand the rationale? Likely there's a discussion somewhere I've missed, but I'd welcome the chance to understand. Speedy Deletion of Picture of Toru Iwaya edit

Hi Skier Dude,

The picture in the article of Tory Iwaya (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toru_Iwaya) was deleted even though I clearly stated that:
- I took the picture
- The original is in my possession
- It is not available anywhere else (like Trixt claimed)
- Trixt didn't specify where the original I allegedly copied was found.

(see my original statements in this page)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Possibly_unfree_files/2009_August_26

Furthermore, you said "The result of the debate was: Delete"

Where is the debate? and why I didn't get to participate in it?

Steve Dixon Image edit

Hi, why did you delete the image of Steve Dixon? I included the source, http://www.stevedixon.tv, and the statement "Please note that it is a condition of use that any images are credited to their respective copyright holders when published."

The website states that the image "may be used by media organisations as required." I quoted the source, and credited BSkyB, so I do not understand why you have deleted this image from Wikipedia? 08:58, 13 September 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by IainUK (talkcontribs)

size edit

Hi,

If there any reason you can't re-upload these at 300px width? It is just that there is a school of thought that says you shouldn't specify image width when you place images on an article; you should leave the width unspecified so that the images are served at whatever the reader's default thumb size setting is. The largest default thumb size setting is 300px, so if you downsample to smaller width than this, users with 300px thumbs end up setting one image smaller than all the others, which looks crappy.

Some of my uploaded images tagged as no proof of use. edit

Hi, thanks for helping me with this copyright stuff, bu i think that you has been too restrictive with some images, to be more specific:

File:Citybusgoiania.jpg is freely avaliable on the [RMTC Citybus website], being a divulgation image and from a government entity.

File:Newbusgoiania.jpg is also freely avaliable on the [prefecture site], i think that it is a divulgation image and qualified as fair use since it is a divulgatio image from the government.

File:Logo intelig.gif Is taken direct from the front page, so i think that it is valid under the fair use.

File:Logo sercomtel.gif and File:Puc Go.jpg are tanken from other sites so i agree that i may have done wrong on uploading it.

I sent some e-mail trying to get them to send the authorization mail to wikipedia, but i fear that the prefecture and RMTC webmaster will no care to answer, and that the autor of the photos don't own it's rights since the prefecture contracted him to take them.

I hope you can change the dead line so i can take the photos my self later and create the logos on some SVG program.

Thanks for the atention. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ishnigarrab (talkcontribs) 06:58, 15 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Re: Replaceable fair use Image:2007-08-09 Nicholas Benton FAIR USAGE image.jpg edit

Skier Dude,

Appreciate you flagging this item. I am fairly new to WP (4 months or so) and made a good faith effort to research WP guidelines and abide by them in uploading this file. I have done as you've requested in furtherance of providing more rationale. WP policy, in my reading, says that magazine covers are usable when the topics of the magazine at hand are actually discussed, as this one is. It's not just a throwaway picture of the subject. This magazine is cited as a source in the very paragraph the picture is next to.

Please take a look at my adjusted rationale, and if it falls short, I'd welcome further guidance on what the problem is. The jumbo violation template that seems dropped in appears bot-driven, not human-driven.

Regards,

HAJ1300 (talk) 22:09, 17 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

I see the image has now been flagged for speedy deletion, with the original caption destroyed/removed. Would be most appreciative if I could hear what more sourcing/justification needs to be undertaken before this photo is removed. Thanks much. Regards,

Skier dude,

I see you've moved my previous inquiries into your archive...am only seeking, in the most polite way, a response to my earlier questions (above). I now see that the image in question has been removed without comment by some bot. Pardon me for being a newbie, but is this the way wikipedia works? One person slaps a tag on something, and a bot comes along and scoops it up? I'm confused. Again, any help would be welcome. I added more justification to the image and heard nothing.

Recent account creation requests from Namibia (IP 196.*.*.*) edit

(I post this message to some account creators that recently have handled Namibian account requests)

Hi all, I just joined the ACC team, partly because I want to help out with our own students. Polytechnic of Namibia has only a few IP addresses over which everything is NATted. We have recently encouraged a number of first-year IT students to become active on WP to improve coverage of Namibia. Ever since (3 weeks ago) we have run into the 6-accounts-per-IP-per-day problem. Unfortunately, the IPs involved have collected a few warnings on vandalism but many new accounts have made edits that are constructive, or that are in the sandbox. Please agf in these cases as you have done before. Generally, all unique requests from accounts of the students.polytechnic.edu.na mail server should be okay. I can personally vouch that every unique account on this server belongs to one and only one person; students must be enrolled at our institution to obtain an email address from this server. If you have questions please contact me on my talk page. Thanks, Pgallert (talk) 17:16, 21 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Albanian Armed Forces edit

My friend,

I am an established user of wikipedia and so far there was never a problem with the information I have correctly reported. But it looks like you have deleted all my work in years. The pictures are MY Pictures and it took to me years to have them thanks to the work I do.

Please restore pages as soon as possible.

My message is related to Albanian Armed Forces

Albanian Armed Forces edit

I still can not find a good reason why you deleted so many pictures and destroyed the page of the Albanian Armed Forces.. It is extremely sad and I am really pissed off. I am a former albanian officer, I'm working as a NATO Advisor in Albania, I am trying to do my best, often trying to protect the pages for people WHO WRITTE IN THERE JUST BECAUSE EVERY IDIOT IN THIS PLANET MUST HAVE A SAY!, I am not earning any money from this and for sure I do not want to, no one better than me in this.. E n c y c l o p e d i a knows what's what with the Albanian Armed Forces. And above all: I FOLLOW RULES - that means if the pictures in the wikipedia have to be published under RULES - mines certanly ARE!!

I do not have enough free time to take care about this problem. But please, you need to know that if the pages are not restored I will report you higher for such a lack of professionality.

All the best.

Albanian Armed Forces - Pages damaged edit

Sorry to writte you again. I am trying to understand for history who is responsable for deleting so many pictures and writting rubbish in the pages of the Albanian Armed Forces: Fireaxe888 or you.

Please, if Fireaxe888 is responsable sure he might have had some very dark reasons to do that. Please help. I am not an administrator. You are.

My very dear friend smart Wiki administrator edit

The VERY first time I got through the AAF page at Wikipedia I was just... voiceless.. There was nothing in there a part from a fake picture of an AA battery of Hawk - a missile that the AAF never possessed. Even at the time I am writing somebody from you - administrators/smart guys living like 6000 miles away from this small and forgotten country, deliberately release (or make possible the publishing) of fake information on the page about weaponry/technologies the AAF never had. That stupid information is still in that page just because you are not able to differ between serious people and charlatans. And what upsets me more in this sad history is that YOU ARE THERE TO PROTECT THE RIGHT INFORMATION BROUGHT TO THE WORLD BY SOME HONEST PEOPLE!. So, as someone who never was in here, ever worked with some military forces? - hardly heard before the poor little Albanians had an army - CONGRATULATIONS!! It is so pathetic reading through the exchange of opinions between the brothehood of W i k i administrators - I think there are so many cameras used..aha..uhmm..yes.. may be.. of course delete... What a joke. My moto was and remains DO NOT DISTORT ANY REALITY. EVER. This small country has had (oh.. still has by the way) enough wanderer historians and has been dealing painfully with all kind of history and facts manipulators. Well, that's not my kind dear overseas friend. Keep in mind: There are already many Albanians hanging around the web, who will easily write all kind of rubbish just for satisfying some sick nationalism pride - I AM NOT ONE OF THOSE!

About the pictures.

Most part of the pictures is taken through my cameras. I do posses 2 of them. A personal one and an office one. My colleges (the other advisors) have their own. Sometimes we have been using their ones. When I wasn't carrying any with me I was happy to use my mobile phone camera just to not let the moment fly away. And it is more than three years I have access to AAF military units, take part in meetings, exercises, training, and conferences - not because I want to take beautiful pictures or write soldier fairy tales on the Wikipedia - I guess THIS IS NOT MY JOB but because I am a NATO advisor focused, I believe, in something much more important than that.

Many of the Albanian military personnel have willingly helped me with pictures they have had the possibility to shoot. This country is not the USA. A normal Albanian does not care too much if he is going to earn any stupid cent from a picture that (may be) only a few nationals are more than happy to see published. Nor do I. This is why the pictures are released to public domain. Life is already difficult in here without that contour. Only a few of them - depicting some old Albanian Navy were published under a specified license - just to protect the fact that they were so unique and to estimate the passion of the gentlemen - former navy officer who gave those to me and was more than happy to see his work published.

And most important: I didn't start all this to earn any thing. It took valuable time from me, it took hours.. Do not forget: I am not a professional user of Wikipedia, Wikipedia is not the meaning of my life – but still I am a big fan of it, who loves transparency and the right to access the RIGHT information. This is why I mainly focused on AAF. That is and remains for the moment my field of expertise. AND I HAVE DONE MY BEST TO RESPECT YOUR RULES.

This is all folk. The rest is up to you.

Hi. I got this directly from the woman in charge of this organization and she's fine with it being used. While we don't really need the largish version, I could get this all confirmed. Email me, if you think this reasonable and I'll make the connections. Sincerely, Jack Merridew 03:09, 28 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

There's no problem w/ the logo - it just needed to be reduced in size. An admin will take care of the deletion of the old one after 7 days. Skier Dude (talk) 03:14, 28 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
My point really was that I could get this released, so we would not be required to reduce the size per WP:NFC. The chairwoman has rights to other material (works of art) not related to this organization that she's said she would release and this could serve to get that ball rolling. I'll be firing off email to here, soon. Sincerely, Jack Merridew 03:26, 28 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

User:Kingoomieiii\Stalkernotice edit

Can you userfy this as User:Kingoomieiii/Stalkernotice? that's what I meant to do. --King Öomie 04:56, 28 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Well, I meant tossing what used to be at the deleted page there. --King Öomie 05:04, 28 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
I was referring to User:Kingoomieiii\Stalkernotice, which you deleted. --King Öomie 05:07, 28 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Theotokos of Vladimir edit

Hey buddy

I'm trying to do one simple thing: add a copyright status to this image http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Theotokos_of_Vladimir_screenshot_from_Transsiberian.jpg#file and so far I've been all over about three lengthy wiki pages on the matter and still no luck.

Can you please help me out?

Thanks!

Request for assistance edit

Dear Sir, You have informed me that certain orphaned images are soon to be deleted. The article they were with was deleted. I wish to work on the article on my user page to possibly eventually try to put it back. Can the images stay and not be deleted if I use them on my user page article? Images are: KresoK.jpg, University of Tubingen Seminar.jpg and Odjava.jpg, previously with article Kresimir Chris KunejTurqoise127 (talk) 22:47, 28 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thank you. edit

I want to thank you for moving one of my sandbox articles from a mistyped user space to my user space rather than just deleting it. That was kind of you. Thanks again B.s.n. R.N.contribs 00:25, 29 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
