Speedy deletion nomination of Australia, Commonwealth of edit

1. Please note that Our list of East Asian countries does not contain Russia. Further, UN selected "Europe" as the region of Russia, as indicated in wikepdia here.
2. Please note that Our list of countries in Oceania does not contain Timor Leste, which is considered by Wikepedia to be a part of Asia.
3. It's possible to decide that every group should contain 6 countries, or that every group should contain 10 countries, or whatever, but the number of countries in every group must be constant. HOTmag (talk) 12:06, 29 January 2016 (UTC)
- 1. That category is called "East Asia and Pacific" and includes Southeast Asian nations and Oceanian nations, I see no reason as to why not include Russia, not to mention, in the article you linked it says "The one major exception to the scheme is "Russia," not currently officially in the continental region of Asia, but unofficially partly in it even though classified as Europe.". Also, check out the actual list of Asian countries.
- 2. I beg your pardon, last time I read this article it mentioned Timor-Leste in there, maybe we can include Indonesia instead?
- 3. I honestly don't see why, it is stupid to repeat the same countries in both sides. Also, now I noticed that there used to be a category for South Asian nations which included about 4 countries in each side, is that why it was removed?

- Hello ShadowRenegado,
- The article you've referred to, lists Russia in the category of "Northern Asia". This category is not included in our article List of countries by Human Development Index, which has - both the category of "Asia" - and the category of "East Asia and the Pacific". Do you know of any article in Wikipedia which lists Russia in the latter category, or in "East Asia" alone?
- Do you know of any article in Wikipedia which lists "Indonesia" (as a whole, i.e. not the part of "West Papua" alone) in the category of Oceania?
- Our article List of countries by Human Development Index, lists some countries in more than one category. Do you really think this is stupid? For example, most of the countries in the category of "top 10" of "council of Europe", are included also in the category of "top 10" of "European Union", and also in the category of "top 10" of "North Atlantic Treaty Organisation", and also in the category of "top 10" of "Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development", and also in the category of "top 10" of "Western Europe". Look: I haven't decided whether or not that's stupid. I'm just claiming that once we decide that - being included in more than one category - is legitimate (as is the case of many European countries and of many Arab countries and likewise), then we cannot decide that it's stupid to list the digit "7" both in the category of "top 10 digits" and also in the category of "bottom 10 digits". Ask every mathematician at our Reference desk of Mathematics, and you'll be told that it's not stupid at all: Yes, the digit "7" is really included - both in the category of "top 10 digits" - and also in the category of "bottom 10 digits".
- On the other hand, the articles in Wikipedia must be consistent, don't you think so? Consistency entails constant criteria. If the criterion is "four countries" in every group, then it's OK to have also the category of "South Asian nations", but then every other group should contain four countries only. Unless we don't want constant criteria, which is a necessary condition for the consistency of our articles.

- "Northern Asia"? Where did you see that? By the way, the closest to that which I found in another article was this.
- There use to, but not anymore, which is strange, it makes me question how should transcontinental countries be treated, because as of now it is dubious at the very least, should we account only the continent where their capital is? Or should we account everything they own? The United Kingdom, for example, owns territories in all 7 continents.

- Ugh, that's not the article I linked. Furthermore, I'm already feeling like a broken record, the article you just presented shows countries like Malaysia and Indonesia in "Southeastern Asia", not in "Eastern Asia", so no reason for you to keep them in the "East Asia Pacific" category of the HDI list, either, if you want to be so technical about it. Russia owns the easternmost point of Asia with coast on the Pacific, it makes sense to include it there. I probably won't answer you anymore, there's nothing I can do. --ShadowRenegado (talk) 16:57, 2 February 2016 (UTC)
