Speedy deletion nomination of Ryan Northcott edit

Hello, Scoutmasterward

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Ryan Northcott for deletion, because it seems to be inappropriate for a variety of reasons. For more details please see the notice on the article.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

March 2021 edit

Hello Scoutmasterward. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Scoutmasterward. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Scoutmasterward|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. CUPIDICAE💕 16:27, 8 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Praxidicae: Thanks for your message. There is no financial stake in this page in any way. I am not paid to edit, nor do I have a close connection which I'm charged with. I have followed this actor's career for some time and the page had been around for well over a decade, simply wanted to improve upon what was there previously, but I made the error in copying information from one of his blog posts and the page was deleted due to copyright - thus the page was re-written by myself using information available. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask! Scoutmasterward (talk) 16:43, 8 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
Then how is this your own work? CUPIDICAE💕 16:45, 8 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Praxidicae:In that case should the photo be deleted, since I didn't take it? Scoutmasterward (talk) 16:48, 8 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Praxidicae:I've nominated for deletion and removed from the page. Scoutmasterward (talk) 17:09, 8 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
Scoutmasterward, it might be possible for someone to write an article about Northcott that will not be deleted, but it won't be you and it won't be this article version. The writing resembled marketing copy, not encyclopedic writing: "Over the next three years, Northcott would book a slew of roles". That's not something you took from a reliable source, it's your own spin. You pulled together a biography from various passing mentions, even using sources that don't actually mention Northcott. You relied on non-independent sources. That's not how to write a bio.
I could write this off as inexperience, but you've shown no interest in anything other than editing Northcott's article since 2016. You claim to merely be interested in this actor and "the other actors from Mystery, Alaska", but you've never edited about any of them or indeed anything else.
I strongly advise that you explore other interests, to edit some varied topics, learn how Wikipedia really works. Only then, if you really must return to Northcott please do so at Draft:Ryan Northcott. Use good WP:RS, avoid WP:PEACOCK phrases, don't add WP:OR or unsourced content. Then submit via WP:AFC. @Fences and windows: That appears to be the case. I'll let someone else take the reins. I appreciate the guidance, look forward to exploring more topics I know about, and learning the ways of a successful Wikipedia editor. Be well. Scoutmasterward (talk) 01:41, 11 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
