Backlog Elimination Drive Has Begun

Hello, I just wanted to take a moment and announce that the July 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive has started, and will run for a month. Thanks for signing up. There's a special prize for most edits on the first day, in case you've got high ambitions. Enjoy! ɳorɑfʈ Talk! 04:12, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

As easy as Pei ;)

Hey Scartol,

Congratulations on your article I. M. Pei becoming a Featured Article! :) You're my hero: beautifully written articles on important topics. :) One day, I'll write a Featured Article that actually gets read over a dozen times a month. ;)

It was nice to see you at the Buffy FAC, too. I thought that they would close it immediately after Moni asked them to, so it's all the more heartening to see how the community rose to complete her work. :)

Awadewit and I are planning to work on Émilie du Châtelet, but we're both rather busy in real life, so it will likely take months of work. But we're thinking of incorporating it (along with your Emmy Noether and a few other articles) into a Featured Topic on women mathematicians. As an initial list, we might have Hypatia, Maria Gaetana Agnesi, Sophie Germain, Ada Lovelace, Sofia Kovalevskaya, Mary Cartwright, Julia Robinson, and perhaps Karen Uhlenbeck. Of course, that might take years to finish...oh well, easy come, easy go! :) Willow (talk) 21:04, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

Hey there, BFF! Thanks for the kind words. I've printed out the Pei article and I'm going to send it to his office.. It would be so nice to hear from someone I've researched so much (since that punk Chinua Achebe never wrote back! lolz).. Good luck with the women mathematicians topic; I'm a big fan of Ada Lovelace, ever since reading Sadie Plant's book Zeroes and Ones (ISBN 0385482604).. I'm working on Eveline Hanska these days, so I doubt I'll have much time anytime soon, but lemme know what I can do to help! (Copyediting, etc?)
Hugs! Scartol • Tok 22:33, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

Balzac has found a fitting Wikipedian in you, Scartol; his dozens of novels and your dozens of FAs seem to be cut from the same cloth. :) Affectionately, Willow (talk) 22:46, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

Aww, thanks. But as I wrote here:

I sometimes wonder if it's worth it – I have writing of my own to do! I sometimes think about biographers and think: "How silly to spend so much time writing about someone else who wrote great books!" So what does that say about me, spending so much time writing about those other people who wrote about other people?

Well, it beats dancing for nickels. Scartol • Tok 03:12, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
I second the congrats. Pei certainly had an impact on D.C. architecture. APK whisper in my ear 10:12, 6 July 2010 (UTC)

Reminder

Hi! This message is just a friendly reminder that you signed up to participate in the GOCE Backlog Elimination Drive. I noticed that you haven't logged a single copy edit yet. We'd love to see you participate! The drive runs three more weeks so there's still plenty of time to earn barnstars. Thanks! --Diannaa (Talk) 22:26, 9 July 2010 (UTC)

Omar al-Bashir Peer Review

Sir,

I am contacting you via the volunteers list to ask for your assistance reviewing this article. al-Bashir, having been recently indicted by the ICC on three counts of genocide, has had his page undergo a flurry of updating and editing and I believe that this article now has the potential to meet the WP:FA criteria. I figured that this article would be of interest to you given your stated focus of political/modern history as well as social science. Thank you in advance for your time, and if for any reason you are unable to participate, I understand. Feel free to contact me at any time and for any reason and I will do my best to respond promptly and in the affirmative. Thank you sir.

Yes, this is a chain post; but on a personal level, I would truly appreciate the help of someone who has 13 featured articles to his credit and I would be honored if you would give feedback. Again, if for any reason you can't, I take no offense. You are obviously a busy man. Cwill151 (talk) 23:27, 14 July 2010 (UTC)
For your convenience here is a direct link. Cwill151 (talk) 00:04, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
I really would like to help, but alas I'm preparing to host some friends from out of town this weekend, and then leaving town myself for a week. When I return I've got other work that requires my attention. (And this means I'll be unable to participate in the big July copyedit drive that I foolishly signed up for.) Good luck with the article! Scartol • Tok 12:27, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
I understand and thank you anyway for your consideration. Happy editing!
P.S. Do you know of an editor who might be able to help with this project? Cwill151 (talk) 17:02, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
I have enjoyed working with — and can recommend, assuming they're not too busy — Figureskatingfan, Moni3, and Yllosubmarine. Good luck! Scartol • Tok 19:43, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
Thank you again. Cwill151 (talk) 19:47, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

Manchester United F.C.

Just to let you know that this article is now at FAC in case you wanted to leave any comments. Best, Tom (talk) 13:54, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

I sent this article again to FAC, I hope the article still meets your standards for FAs. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 02:53, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

Little note of little note ;)

Hey BF,

Congratulations on your beautiful FA, Cousin Bette, being on the Main Page! :) Willow (talk) 06:21, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

Awesome, dude! How cool is that?! Too bad it happened during the summer, when you have less opportunities to hold it over your students' head... ;)
Thanks, Willow and Christine. Too bad it happened while I was on vacation and I couldn't monitor it properly.. Scartol • Tok 10:56, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

Singin' and Swingin' map

Heh, love the subject line, if I should say so...

Anyway, Scar, the Singin' and Swingin' article is now back at FAC. In its first FAC, you mentioned that you might be willing to create a map showing Maya Angelou's travels in the book, but it never went any further. Still interested? I don't think that its current FAC will be impacted either way, but I still think it would be good for the article. What do you think, eh? Christine (talk) 15:53, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

I'm afraid I just don't have time to offer.. With only a month left of summer break I find myself as busy as always. I don't even have time to look at your article to weigh in at FAC! Sigh.. Good luck with it tho. Scartol • Tok 11:33, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
No worries, dude. Get less busy but enjoy the rest of the summer. I cannot believe there's only a few weeks left! Man, what happened to the time? Christine (talk) 11:50, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
