Where is Kate? DRV close

That was a very well-written, thorough, and helpful closing statement. Good job. Jclemens (talk) 04:53, 1 April 2024 (UTC)

(ack, and no, even though it's 1 April in UTC, it isn't in my TZ and it's an entirely sincere comment regardless) Jclemens (talk) 04:54, 1 April 2024 (UTC)

New legal article

I have finished enough of Consciousness of guilt (legal) to go public with it. Further development and improvement will be appreciated. -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 19:25, 2 April 2024 (UTC)

Sorry, but how does that concern me? Sandstein 19:37, 2 April 2024 (UTC)
I thought you were interested in legal topics. My bad. Have a great day. -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 20:09, 2 April 2024 (UTC)

Thank you

Thank you very much Sandstein for your formatting of the references at Yitzhak Reiter. Much appreciated. IOHANNVSVERVS (talk) 16:51, 3 April 2024 (UTC)

@IOHANNVSVERVS, right, but they are not good references. An opinion piece by him (worthless as a source), and an autobiographical page (not very good, see WP:SPS). You should try to find better sources, see generally WP:BIO. Sandstein 20:49, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
Right, well I tried to have the page deleted originally since it had no references at all to begin with... This was what I was able to do to try to fix the article, as no one else was or has been willing to do anything to help fix the article.
Also the opinion piece written by Reiter includes at the bottom "Yitzhak Reiter is a professor of Islam, Middle East history and politics, and Israel Studies at Reichman University and Al-Qasemi College. Reiter is also the president of MEISAI, The Middle East and Islamic Studies Association of Israel. The article reflects his opinion only." This was presumably written by The Jerusalem Post about Reiter and not by the man himself. That bit is all I used for the article.

Keka (film)

As per User_talk:Missvain#Keka_(film), I feel that this deletion (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Keka (film)) should have been a soft delete due to minimal participation. There are four reliable reviews: Rediff.com [1] IANS [2] 123telugu [3] [4] and two production sources: Idlebrain.com [5] and Rediff.com [6]. Do you agree that nobody that participated in the deletion discussion did a WP:Before and do I have the permission to recreate the page now? DareshMohan (talk) 02:07, 9 April 2024 (UTC)

As always, you are free to recreate a deleted article if the recreation addresses the reasons for which the article was deleted. Sandstein 08:09, 9 April 2024 (UTC)

When a pinch of salt may not be tasty

Hello, Sandstein. What I'm about to say refers to something from more than a decade ago, so it's perfectly possible that you wouldn't handle things in the same way now, in which case please ignore this message, but I thought I might as well mention it, just in case it might be helpful. In July 2013 you salted the titles Synechron & Synechron Technologies, following repeated re-creations. Unfortunately, what happened then was that the article was re-created again, in August 2015, as Synechron Inc, and has remained undetected for almost 9 years, until now. As I said above, it may well be that you would not do the same now, but for what it's worth my experience is that salting titles of articles which have been repeatedly created stands to do more harm than good. It usually will not stop the re-creations of the article; it is more likely to just force the person who re-creates it to find a new title. We can watch the existing titles, but can't watch every conceivable new title that could be used, so the effect of salting is very often, as in this case, to enable the new copy of the page to go undetected for a long time. JBW (talk) 20:25, 11 April 2024 (UTC)

Salting sometimes helps with low attention span people, but obviously not always. Sandstein 20:34, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
For the record I found that because I knew exactly the logic you (JBW) used and did a database query to search for possible salt evasions. * Pppery * it has begun... 21:10, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
"Salting sometimes helps with low attention span people..." Yes. Probably I should have explicitly stated that I wasn't intending to suggest that salting never helps, but I do think that the cases where it is likely to help are limited. JBW (talk) 13:54, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
@JBW, in any case, if you think that the salting in this case is detrimental, feel free to undo it. Sandstein 14:57, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
No, that would be shutting the stable door long after the horse has bolted. JBW (talk) 17:32, 12 April 2024 (UTC)

Deleted Kucoin

Hello, I am trying to create an article on Kucoin and discovered it one was created and correctly deleted in 2018. So much has changed since then, the organisation has gained quite some coverage and I would love to create one now if you do not mind.

Regards Ghostfishing (talk) 05:15, 10 April 2024 (UTC)

How does that concern me? Sandstein 06:12, 10 April 2024 (UTC)
There's a protection log on the name or something and the template says to contact you before it can be created.
Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kucoin Ghostfishing (talk) 07:20, 10 April 2024 (UTC)
I recommend that you create a draft of the article with the new sources as references and submit it to WP:AFC. Sandstein 08:50, 10 April 2024 (UTC)
The template will not allow for draft creation. My draft keeps getting auto-deleted. Ghostfishing (talk) 09:03, 10 April 2024 (UTC)
Try creating a draft at Draft:Kucoin. Sandstein 09:08, 10 April 2024 (UTC)
ah, Thanks Ghostfishing (talk) 09:14, 10 April 2024 (UTC)
done. kindly review. I'm not sure it has the afc template Ghostfishing (talk) 12:27, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
You'll have to wait for an AFC reviewer, sorry, the topic does not interest me. Sandstein 16:14, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
It's ok. Wonder if I can move it though? Ghostfishing (talk) 05:27, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
(by talk reader) @Ghostfishing: Why the rush? Chris Troutman (talk) 13:31, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
Thanks Chris Throutmen, for adding the AFC template and no rush. Just learning.. Ghostfishing (talk) 16:13, 13 April 2024 (UTC)
@Ghostfishing, technically you can, but you risk it being speedy deleted as a recreation of a deleted article and the article protected against recreation. AFC is the safer but slower route. Sandstein 14:59, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
Alright. Thanks Ghostfishing (talk) 16:09, 13 April 2024 (UTC)

Happy New Year, Sandstein

Thanks! Timestamp for archiving. Sandstein 16:15, 13 April 2024 (UTC)

Copy of The Pizza Meter article source

Hey mate, I saw that you recently deleted The Pizza Meter per the AfD discussion, but I was wondering if it would be possible for me to see the source of the deleted page? Either by moving the article to draftspace or to my sandbox, perhaps? I agree there isn't enough coverage for a Wikipedia article, but after April 12 the topic has had a resurgence online, so I was planning to write an article explaining the concept for RationalWiki where I think it would be more fitting. Cheers! Enix150 (talk) 04:05, 15 April 2024 (UTC)

Hi, you can ask at WP:REFUND for another admin to do that - I don't restore deleted articles. Sandstein 14:42, 20 April 2024 (UTC)

Recreated article being deleted

Hi, I want to recreated the article is being deleted by you in 2 years ago. The page name is Samsuri Arshad. (Normal rookie (talk) 01:13, 20 April 2024 (UTC))

Hi, you can recreate Samsuri Arshad if you are confident that you can provide sources that establish WP:GNG. Sandstein 14:43, 20 April 2024 (UTC)

Chloe Lewis (figure skater)

Hi, I saw your close of Articles for deletion/Chloe Lewis (figure skater) and was surprised there would be no good sources about a Youth Olympics medalist from the US. It didn't take long to find this strong profile in the Oregonian (and this briefer one in the Colorado Gazette). As neither source was mentioned in the AfD, would it be possible to reopen the discussion? Thanks for your time in advance. Hameltion (talk | contribs) 00:36, 15 April 2024 (UTC)

Hi, we don't normally reopen deletion discussions, but you can recreate the article based on the newly found sources if you are confident that they establish notability. Sandstein 14:40, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
My impression is that relisting is a common result at WP:DRV, but fair enough. Hameltion (talk | contribs) 15:37, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
Yes, but only before a discussion is closed. Sandstein 18:59, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
