Will Cuppy: "Iranian controversy"

edit

Parkwells has just added a "citation needed" tag to this section. Do you think you can unearth a reference? I run searches now and then to see what I can find, but I haven't come up with anything. -- Cuppysfriend (talk) 16:58, 2 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

I don't live in Iran anymore, and I definitely don't have access to backlogs of Golagha monthly magazine, that finally "discovered" that Cuppy actually existed and was not a pseudonym of someone. But all the information on the section is true. roozbeh (talk) 22:09, 2 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Unprotect Michael Everson

edit

Please unprotect Michael Everson. My edits were in accordance with wikipedia policy for BLP, which state "When in doubt, biographies should be pared back to a version that is completely sourced, neutral, and on-topic". Assisting Everson in guarding the article from edit by protecting the article indefinitely is highly inappropriate behavior for an administrator. Gigs (talk) 21:39, 21 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

I locked the article in order for you two to settle the dispute. I am not assisting you or Evertype, and I don't like to take sides in this. Looking at the discussion on the talk page, you two have not settled it yet. Unprotecting the article now would just result in him and you going back to the edit war.
I recommend you get other editors interested in the discussion. I suggest Wikipedia:Dispute_resolution#Turn_to_others_for_help. Good luck, roozbeh (talk) 08:42, 22 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Whether you intended to take sides or not, you sort of did. The dispute is not so much "Gigs vs Evertype", as it is "Evertype vs the world". Evertype is working to protect anyone from editing his article. When you protected it, you did this job for him. Why did you indefinitely protect an article over a minor 2 revert dispute if you didn't mean to assist Evertype in that end? It's not a case of "the wrong version", I would be here typing this even if you had protected the version with my edits in it.
Regarding getting more editors interested, I agree, and I have already been working toward that end. I posted on the BLP Noticeboard, but it has attracted little interest. I may try an RFC next or posting on the general COI noticeboard. Gigs (talk) 19:33, 22 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
I don't understand "I would be here typing this even if you had protected the version with my edits in it". You would have objected to me stopping Evertype from reverting your edit again and again?!! I don't consider these to be "a minor 2 revert dispute" either. This has been going on with other editors before. The Michael Everson article has been controversial since its beginning, and I have my own objections to it too. BTW, the indefinite protection can also be removed by any other admin, you don't need to change my mind in order for that to happen. I thought it should be indefinite because I was quite sure people will go back to the edit war when the protection expires. With indefinite protection, at least we will record a consensus on the talk page for future reference. Thanks a lot for being patient with this, and I really appreciate you working on getting more editors interested. roozbeh (talk) 20:27, 23 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
I apologize for not assuming good faith regarding your protection. This logic makes more sense, thanks. Gigs (talk) 20:35, 23 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi Roozbeh: A friend of mine said that you are a wiki admin who may be able to help with the following request. This is Hamid Arabnia. Someone from Texas created a wiki biography of me (in Jan. 2009). The page was probably created with good intentions (although that person had included his own publications, photos, ... as references!). Since the text suffered from many errors, I decided to revise it (I also mentioned "in the history" that I, hamid arabnia, is changing the content of the page.) The page is correctly tagged with the message "It may have been edited by a person who has a conflict of interest with the subject matter." The page started receiving vandalism, ... Someone undid the vandalism and emptied the page. The page is also tagged with "The notability of this article's subject is in question. If notability cannot be established, it may be listed for deletion or removed. Tagged since June 2009." I asked http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Jpbowen to delete the page (he has been cleaning up that page). He said he would delete the page but he does not have adm access. This is why I am contacting you with this request. Can you please delete the page? I would be most grateful. Someone has been vandalizing that page (from time to time - please see the history of that page). Any help would be most appreciated. Many thanks, Hamid —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.192.4.63 (talk) 17:38, 24 October 2009 (UTC) 128.192.4.63 (talk) 17:42, 24 October 2009 (UTC)--128.192.4.63 (talk) 17:42, 24 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

AfD nomination of Bardiya (disambiguation)

edit

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Bardiya (disambiguation). We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bardiya (disambiguation). Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:04, 27 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Question of likely interest to you posted on Jimbo's talk page (about inappropriate banning of users from Farsi-language wikipedia)

edit

Hi Roozbeh, I thought you might be interested in the following note, which was posted today on Jimbo's talk page: "Dear Mr.Wales, first of all I would like to say "Merry Christmass"! The problem which forced me to come here, was that in Fa wiki, there is no banning revision, and admins easily ban users without clear explanation. Ultranationalist groups are editing there freely without any obstacle, but democrat and pro human right users, are under great pressure. They are being banned one after another. No admin would answer why he has banned a user. They speak about it, in their mailing list and ban whoever they want in a discriminative manner. Special notice should be paid to fa wiki. Such an enviroment has made it really inactive. What should we do in your opinion? sicaspi 15:35, 25 December 2009 (UTC)" I don't personally have any idea about what to do about this problem, but thought that you might... Thanks,CordeliaNaismith (talk) 21:57, 25 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Unreferenced BLPs

edit

Hello Roozbeh! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 5 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 875 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

Speedy deletion nomination of Ahmad Sadegh-Bonab

edit

A tag has been placed on Ahmad Sadegh-Bonab requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles – see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Proposed deletion of Ali Shakouri-Rad

edit

The article Ali Shakouri-Rad has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No references for over a year, doesn't seem notable.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Beeshoney (talk) 21:47, 18 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hey, I saw that we were simultaneously editing Siamak Pourzand. Most of the text of the original was taken from the PEN America website, so I essentially blanked it and started from scratch. I did try to keep your Persian sources, though. Want to take a look and see where it can be improved? Thanks! -- Khazar (talk) 21:04, 6 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. I just updated the page slightly to make sure it's NPOV, as the suicide has only been claimed by his daughters and not the Islamic Republic government. roozbeh (talk) 23:17, 6 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
Great, thanks. What's the Islamic Rep's version? If you hear, we should put that in, too.
I wanted to let you know also that I put the article up for Did you know?. Since we restarted from scratch, I think it's fair game. --Khazar (talk) 16:49, 7 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity

edit

Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in over one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e., as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised and that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions). This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts.
