Roger Turner (Garden designer) edit

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia!

First, I must ask, are you the same Roger Turner as the subject of the article you created? If so, I'd like to advise you not to edit this article further, nor any article related diretly to yourself (such as books you wrote etc.) Wikipedia has a guideline for cases of conflict of interest, and the best way to avoid COI is to avoid editing articlesabout yourself.

For other articles you may be interested in editing, check out Portal:Gardening. Thank you. LeaHazel : talk : contribs 10:53, 18 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

from Roger T - Thanks LeaHazel

Sorry about the COI - of course I didn't know. But I don't think there's anything too pushy or incorrect about what I inserted.

I assume it is you who edited it. I am not a gardener. A gardener digs, plants and generally gets his hands dirty. Could you please change this back to "garden designer" ?

Was this the right place to reply to you ?

Thanks RT

No problem, a lot of new users are not aware of the extend of Wikipedia policies and guidelines.
Regarding the article about you, I can edit and improve it, as well as tagging it as a stub to allow other interested users to improve it further. Your edits to the article have been generally useful, neutral and encyclopedic, but I must still advise you to avoid editing articles about yourself. Your interest in promoting your work and your books is too strong, and can easily conflict with Wikipedia's interest in maintaining the article(s) about you. If inaccurate information about you makes it into the article (as it did now when I edited it) your best course of action is to comment on the article's talk page -- the "+" link at the top of the page allows you to add a discussion topic to the page easily. Other editors can see your comment and judge what changes need to be made.
Regarding replying to user talk comments, each user has their own policy. However, you should get used to signing talk page posts with four tildes (~~~~), the code that automatically adds your username, a link to your userpage and the current date and time.
I hope you enjoy editing Wikipedia. There's always a lot to do here, and I think you'll find plenty of interesting articles. LeaHazel : talk : contribs 12:58, 19 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks LeaHazel - you are very kind. Do you specialise in nursing newcomers ? And are you the same as Grstain (or something similar) who has trailed back over what I've done and smoothed it out here and there? Yes - there's a lot one could add, but it just takes time. Best wishes Rogert5595 15:03, 19 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Capability Brown edit

Your list is very welcome. Would you head it with a few lines to say where the list is from? I just turned back an anonymous addition of Keele Hall. Attributions to Brown have clouded the picture in the past.--Wetman 05:10, 23 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

October 2013 edit

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to George Gilbert Scott. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include, but are not limited to, links to personal websites, links to websites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a website or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the page, please discuss it on the associated talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. Theroadislong (talk) 19:20, 26 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Please stop adding inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to George Edmund Street. It is considered spamming and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings. If you continue spamming, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia.
