SSM in Yucatan

Hi. SSM is still illegal according to state law in Yucatan. The constitution's been changed, but that only means that Yucatan is now like the other 10 states where it's illegal, rather than it being both illegal and constitutionally banned as it was until yesterday. — kwami (talk) 09:27, 26 August 2021 (UTC)

No, that's not correct. The amended state constitution expressly allows same-sex marriage. Every news source has reported this, and not one news source reports it the way you describe. Robsalerno (talk) 05:06, 27 August 2021 (UTC)

That does not "expressly allow" SSM, it simply removes the gendered language. So now marriage is between "two people", but the law decides which two people -- no-one is advocating removing all restrictions (e.g. marrying your 8-year-old niece). So what are the restrictions? That's where the law comes in. And the law hasn't changed. Of course, clerks may decide to start issuing SSM licenses even without a change in law. That's happened in several states. But unless that happens in Yucatan, per CRYSTAL we can't say it will. — kwami (talk) 06:26, 27 August 2021 (UTC)

Your first source is convincing. One of the others appears to use me as a source of info, which is hardly credible. But in the first, we have Milagros Romero saying that while SSM is still illegal under the law, the law will be overridden as soon as the changes are published. I don't know what color striping we should use for the Mexico map. Also, per CRYSTAL, do we change our articles in anticipation of a change that has not yet happened? There are other sources that the governor has not ordered SSM certificates to be issued and that congress has 180 days to change the law. Thus if Yucatan is not under a 'pending' category, it needs to be back under the 'illegal' category.

The constitution and the law are two different things. The laws are based on the constitution. Changing the constitution does not change the law.

Yes, there is a deadline to change the law. But what if they don't? Then it will go to the SC. The SC will rule in favor of SSM. But we don't know how long that will take. Bangkok, Thailand

Hi User:Robsalerno! I recently added two districts of Bangkok, Thailand to the same-sex union legislation page after seeing some articles on @LGBTMarriage News on Twitter (which you run!). However, I was uncertain if this qualifies. It sounded like they were giving non-binding certificates to same-sex couples on Valentine's Day. Is this only on Valentine's Day? Or is this continuing after that? (I tend to think that if it is only a one-day thing that we should consider taking the edit down.) If we are to keep it, should we upgrade it to say Bangkok or should we keep it at the two districts (for now) and should the flag of Bangkok be used? Also, what is this system called? I couldn't find a name for it so I went with "non-binding relationship recognition."
