Latin numerals edit

Dear ARMcgrath,

Why did you just revert my article about Latin numerals to the redirect, without any explanation in the edit comment or on the discussion page, where User:Wbm1058 suggested earlier today to keep my the article and putting a headnote pointing to Roman numerals at its top? --Abderitestatos (talk) 17:30, 31 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Abderitestatos: Yes I did why because every user has reverted it to redirect Roman and Latin are the same language because The Romans spoke Latin A.R.M. 18:11, 31 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
Your answer does not make much sense; just stop vandalizing articles, please! --Abderitestatos (talk) 18:36, 31 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

User:Verseaille/sandbox edit

Dear ARMcgrath,

Early today our time (though perhaps 30 September in your hemisphere), you placed a speedy deletion message on the user/sandbox page [[1]] of one of the students in my class. The class is being taught in a Wikipedia project course for university credit, and is registered with the Wikipedia Education Foundation Dashboard. As this user/sandbox page is not published in the mainspace, I'm not quite sure that it is a candidate for speedy deletion. If I'm wrong though, please let me know. Moreover, the page is not a promotional page. It contains biographical information about a person who has been at the forefront of the protests about gun violence and who led the April 20 Nationwide School Walkout. The page is being created because it was placed on a requested article list. I would really appreciate it if you would please not delete the article from this user's sandbox. Frances Di Lauro 08:55, 1 October 2018 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fransplace (talkcontribs)

I don’t have the ability to delete articles and the article sandbox was already deleted. There was really no point in sending this A.R.M. 11:01, 1 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Threatening message edit

Dear ARMcgrath

Please do not send me any more threatening messages. Also, please do no undo my edits without good reason. Thank you.

Kristov3 (talk) 20:39, 12 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Kristov3: There was nothing threatening about that warning there’s a massive difference between warning someone and threatening someone. I warned you to not remove references that’s not threatening you that’s warning you. Very massive difference A.R.M. 21:35, 12 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Your words were "this is your first and only warning". That is a threat. Please do not send me any more threatening messages. Kristov3 (talk) 22:14, 12 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

whatever you say A.R.M. 13:28, 13 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Parakala Prabhakar edit

McGrath, May I know why you have removed the edits and additions I made to entry on Parakala Prabhakar?

Godavarison (talk) 11:41, 22 October 2018 (UTC) GodavarisonReply

@Godavarison: First of all call me A.R.M. And i though you were a vandal sorry about that. I make mistakes here, we all do I just thought it was vandalism thanks for coming to me and telling it helps people like me learn from their mistakes anyways no worries enjoy Wikipedia. Hi edit

Hi ARM. Sorry for wrongly addressing you. I’m not a vandal. Thought I’d fill in the details I knew about the subject. And this was my first contribution. Didn’t know the proper procedures. Just wrote down what I knew and posted. I don’t mind if you don’t want to take it on board. But please note that I didn’t come here to vandalise. If you don’t still want to take the edits/additions/corrections, so be it. I have no quarrel. C u. Godavarison (talk) 17:02, 22 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi edit

Hello ARM, its close to two weeks since I wrote to you about my edit and conveyed to you that there was no reason for you to delete it. It was not vandalism. You have neither restored my edits nor have you responded to my message. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Godavarison (talkcontribs) 08:46, 3 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Godavarison: I’m the dumb shit here because your always on the abuse log. I literally forgot about you in general. I don’t even know why your on the abuse log when you’ve messaged me for my mistakes. Good lord I feel like a jackass A.R.M. 12:34, 3 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

My recent edit and additions to Congressman John Test page edit

ARMcgrath This is going to be kind of long. I apologize.

Let me thank you for being so diligent and efficient in protecting the Wikipedia article on Congressman and Judge John Test against vandalism.

I am the person who attempted to edit and add information to the Judge John Test page. You rejected those changes.

Since 1945, my cousins have been trying to correct inaccuracies about Judge John Test's birth and his family. I am new to the effort. I don't understand how Wikipedia works. I could use your help.

The rules and norms here are a mystery to me. Perhaps copy and paste of bureaucratic bios is the norm for wikipedia and nothing beyond the bare description found in official publications is welcomed.

On the other hand, perhaps you are used to working with original documents. If so, I hope you will look at a piece I have just put together explaining and displaying original documents that show that Judge or Congressman John Test was not born in 1771 as the Wikipedia article and several other authorities claim. He has been confused with his cousin, a Quaker, also named John Test. The Quaker John Test was born in 1771. Judge John Test was born about 1781.

See http://testfamilygenealogy.net/Documents/Newspapers/JudgeJohnTest/Files/confusionStillreigns.html

You might be interested in the history of this confusion. I have posted about 10 articles on this issue from 1945 -- over 60 years ago. The error will not die. See this page, you'll have to scroll down a little ways, if you are interested:

http://testfamilygenealogy.net/Documents/Newspapers/JudgeJohnTest/congressman-JohnTest.html

My cousins and I agree that this appropriation of another's family and birthday is worthy of our attention and correction.

But I don't want to just get the date of birth right. His life was interesting enough to merit more than a paragraph. I will assume that you are at least cognizant of the existence of biographical sketches of Judge John Test written by two of his children viz., Judge Charles H. Test and Helen Maria Test Arion. These are not official government records of birth, marriage and death, but they constitute the best records we have of his early life.

These sketches are on the internet. My cousin Dr. Charles E. Test transcribed them and placed them in "The Test Family in Indiana", pp. 49 - 71. You can find it here:

https://www.chuckstoyland.com/category/test-family/test-family-books/test-family-books-indiana/

Looking at your profile, I can see your pretty busy. Hope you can find the time for this.

Thanks for your attention Robert Test Columbus, Oh

Your recent note edit

Your edit here was inadvisable, in my view. It fed trolls and indicated that they can get a rise out of Wikipedians just by pressing a few buttons. Kevin (aka L235 · t · c) 00:20, 29 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

@L235: sorry about that I get somewhat aggravated on vandals clearing any info on pages because they think they can. Sorry if I caused trouble i pretty much wanted to deal with the user myself. But anyways I’ll try to restrain that. Thanks for letting me know. Anyways cheers A.R.M. 00:49, 29 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

No prob, thanks for your response   Kevin (aka L235 · t · c) 00:55, 29 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

October 2018 edit

WP:UAA reports on users with no edits edit

Generally, there is no reason to report usernames with no edits whatsoever. Per WP:UAAI: "Wait until the user edits. Do not report a user that hasn't edited unless they are clearly a vandal. We do not want to welcome productive editors with a report at UAA, nor do we want to waste our time dealing with accounts that may never be used." The exceptions are obvious hate speech or names that attack a living person/Wikipedia editor, those are blockable even without any edits, but other run-of-the-mill violations need not be reported unless and until they at least attempt to edit, and you should be able to clearly explain what the problem is if it is not immediately evident.

For whatever reason, every day dozens, if not hundreds of accounts are created that never make one single edit. It is our responsibility as admins to conscientiously review every report a user makes at UAA, so we have to check for contribs, deleted contribs, and tripping of the edit filter for every one of these reports, only to find out there's nothing there and therefore no problem to be solved. That's time that could be spent doing more productive things, but you basically obligate admins to do it by making such reports. Beeblebrox (talk) 18:59, 29 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Beeblebrox: I understand the name just look like vandalism A.R.M. 20:38, 29 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

UAA Report - note edit

Hi there, I removed your report at UAA per Longhair's reply that they deleted Di Mycenae's userpage per WP:U5. I didn't see any username violation that was blatant. If there was one, feel free to give me a heads up, and I will look into it again. Best, ceranthor 23:13, 12 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Ceranthor: I reported him for vandalism and promotion the username had nothing to do with the report despite I reported him to the UAA probably AIAV was better now that I see it. A.R.M. 23:57, 12 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Edit Summary Usage edit

Hi there. I was reviewing one of your CSD tags (for promotional/spam content) and noticed you left the edit summary "And your an idiot for promotion" when you were tagging a page for deletion. This is not a good use of an edit summary as it a) does not inform others what you did on the page, and b) is bordering on being uncivil/feeding the trolls. While I know it can get frustrating doing new page patrol, please avoid using similar summaries in the future. Best, Mifter (talk) 03:49, 16 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Mifter: Thanks it frustrates me when a user like that uses that work as a page even if it’s promotion. A.R.M. 03:55, 16 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

I completely get it and it is OK to be frustrated (or even to discuss said frustration internally with other editors.) That being said, an edit summary is not the best place to express that frustration. Best, Mifter (talk) 03:57, 16 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Hi. I noticed that you made a revert here, but you left the edit summary as "What The Fuck". While we appreciate your work in dealing with problematic edits, it's better for your summaries to be more civil and accurate, instead of swearing at the user. Please refrain from doing so. Thanks. Abelmoschus Esculentus 03:53, 17 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
P.S. repeatedly being uncivil will end up in WP:ANI. Abelmoschus Esculentus 03:55, 17 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Abelmoschus Esculentus: I really should watch out and speaking of that user he made a vandalism sandbox I struck it down. A.R.M. 04:08, 17 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Sir it is my sincere request to i dont crate and spread any kind of spam news from your platform. Avsk777 (talk) 04:52, 17 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Avsk777: first of all I didn’t spread that "spam" secondly even if it is you HAD NO RIGHT. To remove that content like that and lastly I’ve told you TONS of times to provide a SOURCE. I seriously don’t have time for this. A.R.M. 04:55, 17 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

I will update new content regarding this artice with all sources but till then remove this spam article Avsk777 (talk) 04:58, 17 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Avsk: hold on firstly I’m not a Admin I can’t just delete the page. Secondly, no your gonna do it your providing the source not me. And third just do me a favor and know on what providing a good source is next time. A.R.M. 05:00, 17 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

  • Hi ARMcgrath (ping Donner60), I've removed the contested material. Come on, it was BLP material sourced entirely to Google Plus, to an account ostensibly (but not verifiably) run by the party in question. In accordance with WP:BURDEN, I'm asking you, as the editor who restored poorly sourced material, to explain why you chose to make those edits. Best, Kevin (aka L235 · t · c) 02:54, 18 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

@L235: to me he didn’t provide a source despite and I readded the information despite he didn’t have a source to show. A.R.M. 03:27, 18 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

@L235: Thanks for letting me know. I just checked back in for the first time since all this came about. It looks like you have handled this properly by removing the unsourced material (not to mention Manual of Style) and there is nothing more to do at this time. Your edit is the last one as of this time. Donner60 (talk) 02:57, 19 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Removing comments from talk pages edit

Hi, thanks for your efforts on User talk:Slimfftsdsard ooiiioioooiooio, but regarding this edit, although the user's edit summaries were certainly unacceptable, users in general are actually allowed to remove comments from their own talk pages, per WP:OWNTALK (although archiving is preferred). JACKINTHEBOXTALK 13:55, 25 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

@JackintheBox: yeah archive is the best way to remove talk page notices not deleting but yeah in some way you can and in some ways you can’t. But yes that users ways of thinking was really stupid. Anyways cheers A.R.M. 15:43, 25 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Please don't "move" articles by cutting and pasting the content, as you did for Dunkin' Donuts. This breaks the required attribution for the text. Thanks. --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 04:04, 26 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
