Ayumi Hamasaki's discography

edit

Hello, Prosperosity. First of all I'd like to thank you for updating Hamasaki's discography page, you did an amazing job. But I'd like to ask you about some things you edited in the singles/promotional singles sections. I'd like to know what criteria you used to consider songs like all the songs from the A and H singles, "Heartplace", "Jewel", "Momentum" etc., as promotional singles, since I haven't seen any information about those songs being promoted as such. In case of "Heartplace" for example, the song was only used in Panasonic TV commercials and performed once on Japanese TV, but I think the song was never released or promoted as a single whatsoever. The same goes with songs such as "Jewel" or "Momentum". "Momentum" was just made a music video to be included in one of Hamasaki's album and that's it, there was no further promotion of the song as far as I'm concerned. You could say "Jewel" could be a promotional single, since it was heavily promoted in TV, but still nor Hamasaki nor Avex consider it a single. So I think it would be a better idea if those songs are putted in other charted songs instead of being considered as singles, and "Heartplace" and other songs should be removed from there since had not a major impact at all. What do you think? Best, Clouded (talk) 02:52, 7 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! So this was the criteria I used:
For it to be a single, it had to be called a single by Avex, which only included Together When... and How Beautiful You Are. Apparently You & Me, Song 4 U and Hello New Me had never ben referred to as such. If something had been
I spent a lot of time thinking about this when I did up Kumi Koda discography, but I've been listing the A-sides of releases like 4 Hot Wave and & as 'promotional singles' while keeping those releases in the singles list, even though technically they are extended plays. However, in a Japanese context these releases are treated as singles, so I figured it was important to retain that. The 'promotional singles' section often includes second tier singles; releases that have been promoted but for whatever reason cannot be considered a proper single, like a single with a radio only release, or an iTunes preceding release. It seemed the best place for these, but this is only my opinion on the matter, it's not something that's been discussed. If you can think of an alternative, I'd be happy to debate/discuss it!
If anything was ever listed as 先行配信 or something similar (i.e. a full-length digital release), I put it in the promotional singles section. If something received airplay, especially if it appeared on the Billboard Japan Hot 100, I believed that was enough evidence to show it had been a promoted song, hence a promotional single.
It is much easier to say whether something has been promoted post 2008 since it would appear on a Billboard chart or have a preceding digital release, but there was a fair amount of guesswork with the earlier releases. I included it if there was evidence of it being promoted for a specific release/reason. I used this reasoning for each:
Heartplace: performed immediately after Rainbow's release, twice: at Music Station Super Live and Hit Best Song 2003.
Rainbow: performed immediately after A Ballads' release, at ayuready, CDTV and Music Fair.
Game: performed and promoted as if it were the second A-side of the Inspire single. Performances at Music Station and Pop Jam.
Jewel: very widely performed in promotion works for Secret. Best Artist, Happy Xmas Show, Hey!x3, Kouhaku, Music Fighter, Music Station (four times), FNS. The response to the promotional works was strong enough for the song to be certified platinum four times.
Momentum: not performed, but the response to the song was large enough for it to be certified gold. I seem to remember a lot of response at the time to this song. Hrrrm...now that I review my thinking, I don't see any evidence of promotion at all, so I'll move it to 'Other charted songs'.
In each instance there is evidence that these songs have been promoted, promoted in relation to another release (i.e. their albums) and deserve higher mention than charted songs such as "(Don't) Leave Me Alone", however could not be considered singles. --Prosperosity (talk) 04:12, 7 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Fukuyama

edit

Hey Prosperosity-先輩. I have finished the base article of Masaharu Fukuyama discography. ALl that's left is formatting the references, which I'll take care of within the day's end. Thanks for always helping me 先輩. Ryoga (talk) 05:25, 12 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

It's done! Can you take a look? I'm sure the sales figures are all wrong and the translations :D Also, "Hello" is certified (AFAIK) 4x plat but the 1995 million sellers list says it's certified Million. What should we do? Ryoga (talk) 13:34, 12 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
Great! The Million list only lists things as million, not 2x million or whatever. 4x Platinum means 1,600,000 before 2003, which is more than 1,000,000, so I don't see the problem! I'll take a look a little later on. --Prosperosity (talk) 04:59, 13 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
Okay, I guess it's safe to leave it like that then. Btw, I also completed Masayuki Suzuki discography. I couldn't find certs pre-1995 and of course, the sales figures. Can you take a look at it as well? Ryoga (talk) 08:07, 13 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hey! Can you tell me how much has Suzuki sold in Japan? The recent Discover Japan II as well? Also, why is DCT's Attack 25 charting in the top 10 again now, all of a sudden? Ryoga (talk) 11:56, 16 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

I'm actually running out of times I can access the database this month, I'll have a look next time!
No idea! I don't know much about them. They started a tour, but that doesn't usually cause sales to go up. --Prosperosity (talk) 12:14, 16 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
Ouch, sorry! Didn't know that :(
At first I thought they'd re-released the album, but they haven't. I know they still sell well in Japan, but the recharting was unexpected. Ryoga (talk) 12:22, 16 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Your bot issue on Hikaru Utada discography

edit

In this edit you removed the content of the "oricon-positions" reference, so AnomieBOT restored it. In your next edit you changed one of the "oricon-positions" references to use "OriconPositions" instead, but you left three other uses of "oricon-positions" in the article. Thus, AnomieBOT restored the content of the revision to one of those remaining three, and you repeated this process for a few more edits until in Special:PermanentLink/625761697 you finally managed to remove all instances of "oricon-positions". Anomie 11:37, 16 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

I'm also curious as to why you though creating User:AnomieBOT/shutoff/Hikaru Utada discography would have any effect; that's not the documented method of shutting down the bot. Anomie 11:37, 16 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
Isn't that what the text at the userpage implies? It says "individual tasks may be stopped by writing any non-whitespace content to various pages under User:AnomieBOT/shutoff/". By attempting to create a page with non-white space content (such as here), I'm presented with a box telling me that if I input data, it'll stop the task. All the text was pointing me to do this, and no alternatives for how to stop the task happening were obvious, so I'm genuinely surprised that's not the method! --Prosperosity (talk) 11:49, 16 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
You missed the rest of that sentence: "see the task list below for the specific page corresponding to each task". None of the tasks in the list link to that page. Further, when you go to the edit page for User:AnomieBOT/shutoff/Hikaru Utada discography it tells you "To disable the task Hikaru Utada discography, enter your reasoning in this page" (emphasis mine), but no task with that name exists in the list on the bot's user page. Mami Kawada

edit

Hello Prosperosity. Can you take a look at the aforementioned article? I've been working at the article (of my favorite singer) for more than two years, and my goal is for it to become a good article (it's currently B-class, up from an almost-unreferenced Start-class back when I started working on it). I just did a partial overhaul of some sections of the article, and I'm now seeking feedback and suggestions on how it can be improved further. Thank you. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 10:10, 14 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Sure, I'll take a look at it in a few days. I can make the discography into a featured-list level page, if you'd like. --Prosperosity (talk) 10:30, 14 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
That would be great too. She's losing popularity these days (even in Japan), so maybe she now needs the spotlight somewhere (that somewhere being Wikipedia). Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 10:50, 14 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
Done! She hasn't been certified or charted internationally, so it was more an exercise in trimming and sourcing things. I left all of the information that should be on other pages other than a discography page here. --Prosperosity (talk) 12:30, 17 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
Speaking of that, the articles on her anime-tieups (Shana, Index, Hayate, etc.) already have tie-up information.
Okay, well there needs to be a lot more prose, and a lot of the releases need to be condensed. Instead of:
Kawada released "x" for the anime Y, which reached number 8. Then Kawada released "z" for the anime 1 which reached number 9. Then Kawada released "z" for the anime 1 which reached number 7.
The sections should be grouped better, and the information more processed. Something like:
In 2034, Kawada began releasing singles for the anime SomethingSomething, collaborating with producer xx on these works. The first song, released as the ending theme song for the first series was commercially successful, peaking at number 30 in Japan. Kawada also performed the songs "Something2", "Something3" and "Something4" between 2034 and 2038, all of which shared commercial success.
I know it's difficult for I've singers, but you'll need to collect as much sourced biographical information possible, and document things in her life other than [release1][release2][release3]. The mentions of her tours is a good start. You'll also need a reception page, which collate things professional critics said about the good points of her music, as well as her singing/songwriting abilities (like her gradual increase in writing songs) and collaborating producers. Since I've is so interconnected, it would be good to compare her with other I've acts in terms of sales, genres and reception. I've should also be talked about a lot more in the article, since it's so central to who she is, and explains why she has all of these game/anime tie-ups and releases like she does. I also recommend sourcing some interviews with her about her music and inserting the content from those; since she herself has to look at her own career in these, it's good for showing what's important for her, as well as how to break up an article into sections based on how she sees her career broken up. --Prosperosity (talk) 13:28, 17 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
You'd need more than this, but CDJournal have reviews of lots of her CDs. --Prosperosity (talk) 13:46, 17 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Big thanks for the great work. I'll try to work on style and reviews soon (the CDJournal link only gives rather short reviews, but given the lack of Japanese reviews for non-mainstream artists like Kawada, any source is helpful). I could work on a Life section, but as you said, finding such information is an uphill battle. I've already tried, but most of the personal information I could find was non-essential trivia. Even her Japanese Wikipedia article isn't of much help (side note: just a pet peeve, but her article there has been semi'd indefinitely, even though her article gets less monthly views than their articles on Attack on Titan, Love Live!, and even her friend Maon Kurosaki, which aren't semi-protected for some reason), given that it's all unsourced, and again, full of trivia. About the only thing I could include is that she has a younger brother. But is a one-sentence Personal life section acceptable, if this is the only relevant information I can find? I think I could find a few more facts about her, which could be sourced to her blog, such as her having grandparents living in Fukuoka. Is this alright?
As for collaborations, maybe all I could do is mention that she mostly works with I've producers Kazuya Takase (whom I've tried to write an article on but couldn't find much sourced information on) and Tomoyuki Nakazawa. Maybe I should state which producer helped her on which song? It should also be easy to write on her work with KOTOKO, beginning with the fact that it was KOTOKO who wrote the lyrics to Mami's first song, and that they both contributed to the Please! franchise, Starship Operators, Shana, Baldr Force, and Hayate. Maybe I should move the information on Healing Leaf and Love Planet Five to the collaboration section, and elaborate on other collaborations? Given that I too feel that the way the article is arranged at the moment (by album) doesn't read very nicely, it shouldn't be too difficult to combine things. Finally, a style section: what would be the best way to do it? Mention her use of trance, rock, etc.?

By the way, for the help, here's a cookie:

Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 15:09, 17 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Re: the producers, I was thinking about something like "for her early eroge songs, Kawada worked with xxxxx. During her major label debut, Kawada switched to collaborating more often with I've Sound in-house producers yyy and zzz, though occasionally still worked with xxx" (but obviously different, showing whatever it was that happened).
Yeah! The Healing Leaf and Love Planet Five would go well in a collaboration section, or perhaps an "I've Sound collaborations" section explaining how she fits into the I've Sound family.
Those facts do sound a little too trivial, and if I were making the article I personally wouldn't use them. If you can find any early 2000s resources, you may be able to find out more about her singing lessons with Eiko and how she came to be a part of I've, which would be good. Oooh, and the fact that she's Sapporo based is super significant in Japanese music, since overwhelmingly everyone is in Tokyo to be close to the record companies and TV studios. --Prosperosity (talk) 00:28, 18 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Just a question though: What's the difference between Oricon ranks and Billboard Japan ranks? I notice that all of her singles charted on Oricon, but not all of her singles charted on Billboard. Is Billboard skewed towards more mainstream or foreign singers? Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 22:40, 3 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Oricon singles chart ranks physical sales only, like it's still 1983 or something. Billboard is a composite chart that compiles CD sales, digital sales, radio play, and I think now social aspects like tweets. This means that if a song was very popular as a CD, but nobody played it on the radio or downloaded it, it tends to get ranked lower than you'd expect. --Prosperosity (talk) 01:27, 4 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
So... Kawada is far from being mainstream, according to Billboard? Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew
According to Billboard, she's only really popular with CD sales. To me, that's a sign of her being associated with anime/game music culture, since fans associated with these things tend to prefer buying CDs over downloading, but well, [citation needed]. --Prosperosity (talk) 08:18, 4 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
By the way, this is now unrelated to Kawada, but is a similar question: I recall both the OP and ED from WataMote doing alright at the Billboard charts, but I couldn't find the said singles at Oricon. What does this mean?
Finally, do you know any leads on where I can find personal information? Her blog is a good start, but I would need more sources. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 08:32, 4 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
You mean these songs?
Start here! --Prosperosity (talk) 08:37, 4 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
Must have missed those. Thanks. Anyway, here's my last question: Kawada's latest single, Break a spell, peaked at only #63 on Oricon, charted for just two weeks, and sold less than two thousand copies. For an anime tie-up single, as well as for a singer of her age (or should I say her experience, since her age is unknown?), how bad is that? It seems you're an expert on these kinds of things, so such an observation would be interesting. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 08:50, 4 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
Pretty terrible! It feels like nobody liked the song very much. --Prosperosity (talk) 09:48, 4 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

By the way, are anime songs frequently played on Japanese radio or public places? And just how niche are anison singers in Japan? I visited Japan a few months ago and it seems that any trace of late-night anime fandom disappears as soon as you leave Akihabara or specialized anime stores (the exceptions were in pachinko store entrances, which were adorned with Cowboy Bebop and Bakemonogatari art; amusingly, one electronic store there I visited had a stereo which played ClariS' song Click and Luna Haruna's song Ai o Utae). Does this extend to anime music? I visited music stores in Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto, and only one store had Mami's CDs, which was in Akihabara, and the only one among the three that I visited there that had her music in stock. Worse, the salespeople in some of the other music stores I visited didn't even seem to know her (although they all knew Kalafina). I even asked people on the street if they had even heard of Mami; virtually all replied that they didn't know her. Is she, and anime singers for that matter, really that obscure? Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 16:58, 10 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

It depends, really. If it's a regular singer from a major label who just happens to be singing an anime song, like TVXQ or Yui, having an anime tie-up might actually get those songs more radio play. If it's a singer specifically targeting anime fans and is popular among a subgroup of primarily anime fans, they're not going to be popular on the radio. They don't really need to be, since they're consistently popular with a loyal subgroup of consumers who are influenced by things other than radio play. It also depends on the audience of the anime, like how the Billboard #1 last week was the Youkai Watch theme song. Something like a One Piece theme song, a Keion song or Evangelion targeting a general audience would get lots more radio play than something specifically targeting anime fans specifically.
I don't pretend to know everything about music, but personally I'd never heard of Mami Kawada before! Though this doesn't really surprise me, since looking at her sales, her popularity seems to be linked to how popular each anime she was singing for, meaning I'm probably outside of her target audience. --Prosperosity (talk) 05:41, 11 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Just am update on article progress. After holding back for a while, I wrote a "musical style and influences" section. I don't think it's much good, since it's too focused on "Joint", but I guess I have to start somewhere. I do plan on expanding it some more eventually. I went through her interviews, and there wasn't much information I could use (most were just personal questions which had nothing to do with her musical style in influences). I couldn't even find any information on her musical influences, so all could put was the part on Alanis. By the way, I'm having second thoughts on whether or not the article needs a collaboration section anyway. I've gone through Supercell (band) (a good article), and its organization, structure, and writing style is very similar to Mami's article. Maybe this means Mami's article is good enough? As for tie-ups, you mentioned that the organization of how her songs should be done should be changed. This is fairly difficult to accomplish, as unlike Supercell's releases, Mami's songs for a tie-up are released in different years (for example, 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2012 in the case of Shana). Finally, could you help and fix and add content where necessary? For the most part, I feel that the biography section is more or less acceptable, but it would be nice for there to be a longer style section, and perhaps more information on her collaborations with I've. Wikipedia is a collaborative effort, and it's very difficult for just one editor to do all the work, particularly for niche topics such as anison singers. Also, I've tried looking for personal information (as you said, finding such information for I've singers is very hard to pull off), but sadly I couldn't find anything at all. Not even information on her life before Eiko's vocal class. Perhaps it's time to call it a day and request for a copyedit, then nominate it for GA? Hey, can you tell me what these are all about? Ryoga (talk) 07:39, 5 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

1) About the Kohaku announcements, and now May J. was chosen to sing Let It Go instead of Matsu. A record company insider said that NHK had planned on having a special Frozen collaboration, featuring May. J, Kanda and Matsu, however this collapsed on Matsu's side. Matsu did not approve of the project, much to the surprise of the industry insiders, as she had participated before in 1996 and 1997. The fact that she did not say yes to the project became a talking point among the industry. When it was announced on the 27th that she was pregnant with her first child, many insiders realised why (NHK source).
2) Explicitly says that Matsu won't appear at Kohaku due to her pregnancy. --Prosperosity (talk) 11:57, 6 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

OT: lol, I just saw Ken Hirai's MV of "Soredemo Shitai" (which was shot in India, my land) and haha, it's way too dorky. I haven't seen his PVs except for "Pop Star" and other few, so this was a really surprising change :D Ryoga (talk) 12:06, 7 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

I did not know what to make of that! Apparently someone said his name is incorrect on the cover. I saw something where he went out in character as "Hiraindian Ken", so maybe it's that! --Prosperosity (talk) 00:45, 8 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
His name is incorrect? I don't think it is... Well, yeah it is spelled "Ken Hiirai", maybe that's what they said lol (atleast I think, I'm not fluent when it comes to Hindi!). Yeah, someone at Arama said that the Indians in Japan often thought he was an Indian, and so he wanted to pay tribute/respect to them and decided to do it. He was in New Delhi for two days or so.. Wow, and I never knew. Not a single newspaper reported this, what a shame! Ryoga (talk) 11:29, 8 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
That's often the case! I find out later on that Big Bang/Hirai Ken/Kimura Kaela were in New Zealand long after they've left. --21:39, 8 December 2014 (UTC)

...and the info you've posted has been added. I feel that the Musical style and influences section is now quite healthy, and I feel that the article is now as comprehensive as it will ever get without regressing into trivia, unless of course new information come out. What do you think? Also, I feel like bringing the article to peer review one more time. Is it almost ready for GA? Will third time be the charm? Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 14:18, 9 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
Sure, give it a go! I feel like it still needs a few more facts, especially in the bulk biography section, which is still a little bit 'released x, tie-up y, released z, for anime a'. --Prosperosity (talk) 23:43, 9 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
'fraid there's going to be a bit of a problem with that. I feel I've pretty much exhausted all what can be found about her personal life that isn't trivia. Theoretically, I could write a short personal life section mentioning her relatives, but that would only amount to one or two sentences at the most, is not exactly healthy. Besides, the structure's already similar to Supercell (band). What do you think? If you don't mind, I'll put it for a peer review later today. Hello! Since you have reviewed similar article(s), would you be interested in commenting at or reviewing my FLC for Guy Sebastian discography? There hasn't been any activity there for over a month, so any input would be appreciated. Thank you! — Usfun8991 05:26, 14 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hikki tribute

edit

Listen to it yet? I can't wait to! Heard preview of "Be My Last" by Kazuya Yoshii, the production is cool. Ayu's version of "Movin' on Without You".. well, hate to be blunt, is she screaming or singing? Ryoga (talk) 11:27, 17 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Just listened to "For You" by Kato! The original single is very special to me ("Time Limit" used to be my jam!), so she did a nice job. Speaking of "Time Limit", where's its cover? :S Ryoga (talk) 11:32, 17 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
I gave it one listen through. I liked half and I thought the other half were unlistenable (which is pretty good for a tribute album all up, haha). I can't remember Movin' On Without You much, but I loved Final Distance! --Prosperosity (talk) 11:34, 17 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
By AI? I didn't listen to it because it's not my favorite (prefer "Distance" by miles). Ryoga (talk) 11:38, 17 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
It was my favourite, but if you didn't like the original then it might not be for you. The ones that appealed to be were Letters and Final Distance, and I kept Movin' On Without You, For You and Time Will Tell for relistening and seeing if I like them enough to keep them. --Prosperosity (talk) 11:42, 17 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
Oh no, it's a beautiful song! Just that it being associated with something tragic hurts me :( I like the original versions of "Movin' on" and "Letters". Sheena did a great job on the latter, bringing her own style to it :) Ryoga (talk) 11:47, 17 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Saw you were working on "For You", so here are some links that might help: [1] [2] [3] [4] :) Ryoga (talk) 15:44, 18 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Ooh, awesome! I always find it so difficult to get sources for things from 15 years ago, especially reviews. The sites just keep disappearing, even when I don't expect them to! (like when Yahoo! got rid of its music portal and all of their interviews, or the other week when Oricon removed all of its pre-2006 positions from its regular website)
If you find anything similar for the stuff I work on, send it this way! --Prosperosity (talk) 00:00, 19 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, and Yahoo! removed them without any notice! Yep, I will. So far, these are all I could find. Ryoga (talk) 14:44, 19 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

This is something I'd saved on my HDD. It's some article on "Time Limit":

ライブ映像を使ったプロモーション・ビデオ「タイム・リミット secret live@SHIBUYA ON AIR EAST 6.26.2000」が、SPACE SHOWER TV(Sky PerfecTV)「JET」にて先行オンエア決定! 期間は7月25日〜8月1日です。同「PRISM」内にて「For You」「タイム・リミット」「Wait&See〜リスク〜」のCLIPミニ特集もアリ。

What does it mean? :) Ryoga (talk) 14:52, 19 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

JA Wiki says there are two different PCs for For You and Time Limit. The main For You one was recorded at her Secret Live, while the main Time Limit was from the first day of Bohemian Summer. They broadcast the secret Time Limit and BH For You as well for special programs and stuff, so I think that's that. I couldn't find proper sources for that though, and to be honest I'm not really sure if it matters (one concert vs. another two weeks apart where she wears the same things and has the same hair and the vocals are the studio version). --Prosperosity (talk) 05:41, 20 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
Found the source! I had forgotten the website, so I had to spend hours searching the web lol. Here it is: [5] It says something about all her releases. Is it of any use? Ryoga (talk) 07:41, 20 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Also, this might be useful, this Ryoga (talk) 07:50, 20 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! The Musicnet one will be great for context. I forgot that Distance was supposed to be a single by itself! --Prosperosity (talk) 08:17, 20 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

"Stand Up"

edit

Hey sempai! Can you help me again? I've decided to work on Kuraki's "Stand Up" first. I managed to collect a few sources, but can't find good interviews on it :( Do you think there's any interview with Akihito Tokunaga or Kuraki regarding "Stand Up"? Does this have any info? I also remember reading some series of interview with Barks, with Kuraki. Does it have any good material? Ryoga (talk) 16:34, 21 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Here's what's in the source! It doesn't go into a lot of detail.

Thanks! There's something in an old issue of Music Freak Magazine, but I guess no one reads it lol. Ryoga (talk) 10:52, 22 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Aim for the Ace!

edit

Hi, Prosperosity. I don't know if know the series or if you are willing to help me and that it may be boring. However, as you've already helped me before and were so nice, and I'd like to ask if you could tell me what information is on this interview and if it's useful to expand Aim for the Ace!. And, if you cannot, could you suggest me another user to ask? Greetings. Gabriel Yuji (talk) 20:03, 9 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Sure, I'll have a look over it tonight/tomorrow. It might take me a little longer since I'll need to read the article first to see what's well-known and what's not there yet. --Prosperosity (talk) 02:59, 10 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
Wow, wow, may thanks!! I'll be anxiously waiting :) Gabriel Yuji (talk) 06:05, 10 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
If it's help you, I'm looking specifcally for info on what led the author to create the series (or any thing related to its conception/production) or about the manga/anime impact in "real world". Basically, info what I could use to create a "Production" section and expand "Reception", even if it's only a bit. Gabriel Yuji (talk) 06:08, 10 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
They're mostly discussing Kei Nishikori's success, and some of the similarities between the manga characters (and their matches) and what went down. The interviewer mentioned that Shuzo Matsuoka might have brought all the manga volumes with him when he was touring (like at the 1995 Wimbledon Championships), but the way they bring up the info means it's unsourcable here (you'd have to find someone who said that as a definite statement and not as a "he might have" statement). I'm not sure if any of that could be usable! --Prosperosity (talk) 00:54, 11 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
Hm, so that is it... Anyway, thank you very much for disposing your time to help me!! Gabriel Yuji (talk) 04:24, 11 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

A few doubts

edit

Hey sempai! I have a few doubts, don't worry, they aren't about sales/certs lol :D I was listening to Mai Kuraki's "Wake Me Up" the other day and I couldn't even recognize her voice in that song! It's edited so much, maybe to make her sound younger or something? I noticed this in Kana Nishino's latest song "Suki" as well. What's up with this trend? Also, I remember you saying that you're not a native speaker of Japanese (?) Did you learn it by yourself? Can you suggest me some Japanese history books, if it's no trouble lol? Ryoga (talk) 13:07, 11 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Wow, I see what you mean in Wake Me Up, crazy! Suki sounds 100% like Nishino to me, personally!
I started with lessons at school when I was 10, then kept it up at university. After then I went to Japan to work for two years! --Prosperosity (talk) 20:47, 11 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, it sounds weird! Not only that, all her concert performances feature this squeaky, kinda stupid tbh, voice :S Now that I've listened to it again, "Suki" doesn't sound different. When I listened to it the last time, I felt that Nishino's voice was a bit higher than what she normally sounds like :)
Wow, awesome! I guess I'm way too old to learn it now, as I've crossed my teenage lol. I'm still interested though, so what do you think? Do I still have time? Ryoga (talk) 12:16, 12 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
Go for it! I've seen a lot of research that implies that people older than 20 should have similar language learning abilities as younger people (due to the brain's plasticity), just that as you get older you become more concerned with different things (e.g. kids are more likely to give things a go no matter if they look silly or not, which is really important in language learning). You're already interested in music/anime/stuff, so you have something that will push you to learn more (instead of like, learning Latin if you're not interested in European history or something). --Prosperosity (talk) 06:23, 13 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
Wow, thanks for the encouragement! :) I don't know where to start, that's the main problem. A university does offer certificate course in Japanese, but I have no idea how good it is. I already memorized Hiragana and Katakana, I can read them now lol. The kanji... well, you know how hard it is. I hate learning online btw, I don't find it amusing or that interactive. Any suggestions? Ryoga (talk) 11:12, 13 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
Try starting with apps or games (there were some good sames for the nintendo DS I remember!), that way it's interactive and you're constantly being pushed. Probably stay away from flash card-style ones at the very beginning. --Prosperosity (talk) 19:22, 13 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
Oh, okay. Thanks again sempai! :) Ryoga (talk) 13:54, 15 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Woot, done at last!

Wow, Dreams Come True discography. What do you think? I have a few things that I need help with though:

  1. "そうだよ/誘惑" (1997) single has sold over 350,000 but it's not certified. It should be, atleast Gold imo. Can you please check?
  2. What happened to all the chart positions on the Oricon website? They've been removed!
  3. Did the group's releases chart in Taiwan or Korea? I checked but couldn't find any :(
  4. Are they certified in Hong Kong, Korea etc.?
  5. Can you please check if the sales are right, if you have free time? --Ryoga (talk) 06:59, 27 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
Sure! Grim Fandango just came out thought so I might take a few days, haha. --Prosperosity (talk) 04:24, 28 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
Thanks! That game sure sounds awesome. I hope you enjoy playing the new version :) Ryoga (talk) 12:57, 28 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
Doesn't seem to be a cert for it! Sometimes things got overlooked in the 90s.
They removed everything pre-2005ish, but on the other hand they added separate chart positions for DVD and blu-ray items. Some of them are still accessible through web archive, but web archive was a bit spotty with Oricon pages. The old and new systems use the same artist numbers (new list is http://www.oricon.co.jp/prof/7057/products/, the old list still uses 7057), so a lot of artists should still be archived.
You've listed a bunch already. They were a group I wasn't actively archiving, so without combing the whole thing again you won't know!
Don't think so! --Prosperosity (talk) 04:29, 29 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
Oh, I see. I wonder why Oricon removed those positions. Their website isn't the most friendly out there lol :D And sempai, thanks for always helping me out. I'm thinking of doing two more discographies before I take a long break: Ai Otsuka and Yuna Ito. When I return, I hope to take care of B'z discography (I'd need your help, of course :P). The final semester exam is just around the corner and I gotta work hard :) Ryoga (talk) 04:46, 29 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the sources Prosperosity. I just have one problem though: my Japanese is so poor that it's almost useless, and using Google Translate doesn't really help much. Could you translate for me information from these articles that could be relevant for a musical style/influences section? Thanks. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 12:09, 13 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Also, this is off-topic to my original request, but out of curiosity's sake, could you provide me a list of J-Pop artists who are known to have visited the Philippines? I'm rather curious if any popular artists have been to my country. Some I know are people like Sayaka Akimoto, Mariko Shinoda, Megumi Nakajima, Hironobu Kageyama, and Crystal Kay, but have there been any others? Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 13:40, 28 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Ok! I'll have a look around. A google search tells me Le Velvets and Starmarie but I've never heard of either of them! Korean groups seem a lot more interested, apparently Super Junior, BTOB, A-JAX, Block.B, A-PRINCE, B.A.P, 2NE1 and Big Bang have all performed in Manila. There are quite a few singers who have Filipino blood, like Mayumi Horikawa, Chieko Ochi, Rikako Sasaki, George Ai, Sayaka Akimoto, Alan Shirahama, Megumi Nakajima, Reimy and Kenji Roa though! A big chunk of them have probably been to the Philippines. --Prosperosity (talk) 02:18, 29 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
And by the way, nice finds. I actually got to see Starmarie at an event here. I have pictures of them, and if they had an article here I would gladly upload the pics over to Commons (although they're rather low resolution since I used a low-spec phone). I wasn't really thinking of people with Filipino blood though. Also, another favor: according to a discussion on 4chan I went to two months ago, apparently May'n may have gone to the Philippines for a Macross Frontier event back in 2008. However, a search for confirmation was inconclusive. Could you go check and confirm if this was indeed the case? Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 12:09, 13 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hey sempai! Can you tell me what "Shijou Saikyou no Idou Yuenchi" means? Is it something like "The Strongest Moving Amusement Park"? :D Also, what happened to G-Music? Ryoga (talk) 03:51, 7 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Do you have the kanji? And apparently they're updating, back in mid February. They're not posting the overall charts but the image updated with the subcharts ([6] [7]) --Prosperosity (talk) 04:22, 7 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Charts

edit

Thanks for you reply, I just had some free time, but I don't do anymore this kind of articles. Also, it's nice to see the artist template. Certainly will consider your pointers, some already knew, but thanks again, especially on WP:Charts. However, although personally wouldn't remove the information on the Hot Singles Sales (as have correlation with the Oricon weekly chart) and Top Airplay from the "Charts" table, because give perspective on release chart, but see the point and agree with the guideline. Yet, can they somehow stay in "Chart performance" section (although the guideline says the opposite)?--Crovata (talk) 15:29, 13 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
