August 2011Edit

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Welcome to Wikipedia. I have noticed that some of your recent genre changes, such as the one you made to Genie in a Bottle, have conflicted with our neutral point of view and verifiability policies. While we invite all users to contribute constructively to Wikipedia, we urge all editors to provide reliable sources for edits made. When others disagree, we recommend you to seek consensus for certain edits. Thank you. Nicholas (talk) 04:33, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

October 2011Edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. I have noticed that some of your recent genre changes, such as the one you made to What a Girl Wants (song), have conflicted with our neutral point of view and verifiability policies. While we invite all users to contribute constructively to Wikipedia, we urge all editors to provide reliable sources for edits made. When others disagree, we recommend you to seek consensus for certain edits. Thank you. Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 22:28, 5 October 2011 (UTC)

November 2011Edit

Please refrain from changing genres, as you did to Miss Independent (Kelly Clarkson song), without providing a source and without establishing a consensus on the article's talk page first. Genre changes to suit your own point of view are considered disruptive. Thank you. Aspects (talk) 23:51, 8 November 2011 (UTC)

December 2011Edit

Please do not add unsourced content, as you did to Miley Cyrus. This contravenes Wikipedia's policy on verifiability. If you continue to do so, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. That also goes for Genres - you have been warned many times now, so please stop. -- MSTR (Merry Christmas!) 12:41, 23 December 2011 (UTC)

MinotaurgirlEdit

Kelly knew what color her eyes were when she made the song "Behind These Hazel Eyes". Comparing the pictures of Kelly and Belle, they do seem to share the same eye color just slightly different shades of it - Belle's eyes are little lighter. Someone made a video called "Behind Belle's Hazel Eyes", the person who made this video knew what color Belle's eyes were and decided to include Belle's name in the title. And if you read the comments, the people fully agree her eyes are hazel with comments like "green or hazel? they look more hazel than brown or green . yup belles eyes are deffinetely hazel problem solved". I like the "problem solved" part. With Minotaurgirl's bias against the idea of Belle having hazel eyes, I think there will always be a problem with people like her involved.

TV Tropes has already suffered an edit war because of her, so much so they forbade users from writting what Belle's eye color is. Notice how Belle's name is missing from the Eye Color tropes colony, while the rest of Disney Princesses have their eye color mentioned. Belle's name was there under the category of Hazel Eyes until Minotaurgirl came along and ruined it all. Same thing almost happened to Disney Wiki. This is Minotaurgirl's account, as you can see she got blocked with an expiry time of infinite, the reason; inserting false information, the false information being writting down Belle's eyes as brown.] And now here's Minotaurgirl on the Wikipedia. Is there any repsite from her?

I noticed she has a Live Journal account. See what she has written. The lack of links speaks for itself. She thinks she actually proved Belle's eyes are brown, depsite the fact what she has presented as evidence is either a minority or a plain old lie, like the screenshots she send me. By magnifying the images, you can see her eyes are hazel-colored and not the same color as her hair at all. Notice how she's afriad to use close-ups of Belle's eye cuz she knows they'll appear hazel if she did so, thus disproving her. On her blog, she didn't mention that she was blocked on Disney Wiki, and said the only reason Disney Wiki kept Belle's eyes color as hazel was to shut up people who keep writting her eyes as hazel, when in reality the one who got shut up was Minotaurgirl as she got blocked while the others didn't. She wrote "Bleh. Kids these days. This one needs a hobby. I'm tired of wasting time trying to undo this snot's damage, and I'm fairly sure the mods of these sites are too. Would it be possible to just...block this person off the internet entirely until they learn some manners?" Yup, she calls people who use logic and legitimate evidence to prove their point snots and hobby-less kids if the evidence goes against what Minotaurgirl said/believes.

If anyone deserves to be blocked, it's Minotaurgirl. If it wasn't for her bias, sites like like TV Tropes, Disney Wiki and the Wikipedia wouldn't have suffered an edit war about Belle's eye color. The fact that there was never an edit about Belle's eye color until Minotaurgirl came along, says a lot. Ever since she got blocked from Disney Wiki almost an year ago, no edit war about Belle's eye color happened there either. It's like Minotaurgirl is the only person on the entire internet who refuses to accept Belle's eyes as hazel and is willing to go to every page and change her eye color to brown, just cuz she likes to think so, not because the world thinks so or any legit evidence are presented. It's like someone going around changing Ariel's eyes from blue to green, just cuz he likes the idea of Ariel being green-eyed. Things don't work like that.

My overall opinion on Minotaurgurl. I think it's safe to say the internet is better off without her. She's toxic, she's a nuisance, she's talks trash to people just cuz they disagree with her, she lies, she mangles, twists and misrepresents other people's words, and she causes edit wars. Action needs to be taken against people like this.--Wolfcho (talk) 05:44, 19 August 2012 (UTC)

Well to quickly use a ref twice use the ref name templates, like this <ref name="example."> Then you put the regular cite information now that you have that template there, If you need to call back upon that source, go back and do you do this <ref name="example" />. You should probably look at this. I'm not sure how much of a help I was but that's the gist of it - GroovySandwichYum. 06:35, 5 September 2012 (UTC)

Belle for FAEdit

Aha, believe or not, I nominated this article for FA once before and it was rejected for a variety of reasons available on its talk page. I am flattered by the fact that you are perplexed by the amount of work that has been done. I did not initiate the article, but I believe I am its primary contributor. In fact, I am responsible for getting it its current GA status, and have steadily continued working on it since. I am hoping to nominate for FA some time soon. It is incredible how much the article has evolved since it was awarded GA status, as shown by this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Belle_%28Disney%29&oldid=529164297 --Changedforbetter (talk) 17:52, 18 May 2013 (UTC)

Article Feedback Tool updateEdit

Hey Changedforbetter. I'm contacting you because you're involved in the Article Feedback Tool in some way, either as a previous newsletter recipient or as an active user of the system. As you might have heard, a user recently anonymously disabled the feedback tool on 2,000 pages. We were unable to track or prevent this due to the lack of logging feature in AFT5. We're deeply sorry for this, as we know that quite a few users found the software very useful, and were using it on their articles.

We've now re-released the software, with the addition of a logging feature and restrictions on the ability to disable. Obviously, we're not going to automatically re-enable it on each article—we don't want to create a situation where it was enabled by users who have now moved on, and feedback would sit there unattended—but if you're interested in enabling it for your articles, it's pretty simple to do. Just go to the article you want to enable it on, click the "request feedback" link in the toolbox in the sidebar, and AFT5 will be enabled for that article.

Again, we're very sorry about this issue; hopefully it'll be smooth sailing after this :). If you have any questions, just drop them at the talkpage. Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) 22:05, 1 September 2013 (UTC)

Opting in to VisualEditorEdit

As you may know, VisualEditor ("Edit beta") is currently available on the English Wikipedia only for registered editors who choose to enable it. Since you have made 100 or more edits with VisualEditor this year, I want to make sure that you know that you can enable VisualEditor (if you haven't already done so) by going to your preferences and choosing the item, "Enable the visual editor. It will be available in the following namespaces: $1". This will give you the option of using VisualEditor on articles and userpages when you want to, and give you the opportunity to spot changes in the interface and suggest improvements. We value your feedback, whether positive or negative, about using VisualEditor, at Wikipedia:VisualEditor/Feedback. Thank you, Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 18:24, 11 October 2013 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Almost There (The Princess and the Frog song)Edit

Hello Changedforbetter,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Almost There (The Princess and the Frog song) for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is significant enough to be included in an encyclopedia, and the artist doesn't have an article.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Makro (talk) 21:47, 10 November 2013 (UTC)

Feedback needed on using special charactersEdit

Hello. Thank you so much for using VisualEditor. Having editors use it is the best way for the Wikimedia Foundation to develop it into the best tool it can be.

While we always welcome general feedback (please report any issues in Bugzilla in the "VisualEditor" product or drop your feedback on the central feedback page on MediaWiki.org), the developers are especially interested right now in feedback on the special character inserter. This new tool is used for inserting special characters (including symbols like , IPA pronunciation symbols, mathematics symbols, and characters with diacritics). It is intended to help people whose computers do not have good character inserters. For example, many Mac users prefer to use the extensive "Special Characters…" tool present at the bottom of the Edit menu in all applications or to learn the keyboard shortcuts for characters like ñ and ü.

The current version of the special characters tool in VisualEditor is very simple and very basic. It will be getting a lot of work in the coming weeks and months. It does not contain very many character sets at this time. (The specific character sets can be customized at each Wikipedia, so that each project could have a local version with the characters it wants.) But the developers want your ideas at this early stage about ways that the overall concept could be improved. I would appreciate your input on this question, so please try out the character inserter and tell me what changes to the design would (or would not!) best work for you.

The "insert" pulldown on the task bar of VisualEditor will lead you to the 'Special character' tool.

This is the Special character inserter as it appears on many wikis. (Some may have customized it.) Your feedback on this tool is particularly important.

Issues you might consider:

  • Do you normally use a character inserter? Which character sets are useful to you? Should it include all 18 of the character sets provided in the wikitext editor's newer toolbar at the English Wikipedia, the 10 present in the older editor toolbar, or some other combination of character sets?
  • How many special characters would you like to see at one time?
    • Should there be a "priority" or "favorites" section for the 10 or 12 characters that most editors need most often? Is it okay if you need an extra click to go beyond the limited priority set?
    • How should the sections be split up? Should they be nested? Ordered?
    • How should the sections be navigated? Should there be a drop-down? A nested menu?
  • The wikitext editor has never included many symbols and characters, like and . Do you find that you need these missing characters? If the character inserter in VisualEditor includes hundreds or thousands of special characters, will it be overwhelming? How will you find the character you want? What should be done for users without enough space to display more than a few dozen characters?
  • Should the character inserter be statically available until dismissed? Should it hover near the mouse? Should it go away on every selection or 10 seconds after a selection with no subsequent ones?
  • Some people believe that the toolbar already has too many options—how would you simplify it?

The developers are open to any thoughts on how the special character inserter can best be developed, even if this requires significant changes.

Please leave your views on the MediaWiki feedback page (your regular username/password works there), or, if you'd prefer, you can contact me directly on my talk page. It would be really helpful if you can tell me how frequently you need to use special characters in your typical editing and what languages are important to you.

Thank you again for your work with VisualEditor and for any feedback you can provide. I really do appreciate it. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 23:42, 17 February 2014 (UTC)

You have done amazing work on getting this article to GA, and I am proud of being able to help out a little here and there. I have a personal passion for Disney's Hunchback, so would really like to see this article go to the next level. For this reason I will list it at WP:Peer review. Having gone thoruhg the process before, I know it will take weeks/months for it to actually get reviewed, so might as well list it now while there are no other Art nominations. Obviously you have contributed much more than me and are more experienced with these Disney-related articles than I, so any work you could provide would be awesome. Re:I'll Make a Man...Edit

There's no problem with the Jackie Chan image- the issue is with non-free images/samples. WP:SAMPLE is our guideline which governs the use of non-free samples, but all non-free content, whether music or images, has to meet our non-free content guidelines, and specifically the non-free content criteria. J Milburn (talk) 08:53, 6 November 2014 (UTC)

The specific worry is criterion 8- do we really need to see a screenshot in order to understand the song? I'm not convinced. For now, I'm happy to leave it open to you/the GA reviewer(s), but it is something you should be aware of. 18:41, 6 November 2014 (UTC)

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Something There you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria.   This process may take up to 7 days. Interested in the Wikicup?Edit

I've noticed that a lot of your editing is getting Disney articles to GA status. Are you interested in entering the WP:Wikicup competition? People get points for helping get articles to certain statuses (eg. GA, FA, etc.), as well for reviews. Not sure if that's your cup of tea, but I figured you might enjoy it :) Luthien22 (talk) 22:30, 6 January 2015 (UTC)

Belle's marriageEdit

I noticed your recent edit on Belle's article. I thought that in the final scene of the movie, Belle is wearing a crown on her head in the stain-glass window, which meant that she did marry the Beast/Prince. I thought it was also established that they were married in the last scene of Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas. And1987 (talk) 20:44, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

And1987 I don't ever remember it being officially established that Belle marries the Beast, and simply basing the character's royal status off of a stained-glass image of Belle wearing a crown at the end of the film would be only an assumption – or "original research," as more devout Wikipedians would probably dub it. Placing a crown on Belle's head doesn't make her a princess, just as putting a wedding dress on a single woman doesn't make her a bride. The same goes for the sequel: two characters who are obviously in love and living together does not automatically make them a married couple, although the natural thing to do is to assume so. Looking at the Disney Princesses (excluding Pocahontas and Mulan for obvious reasons), the only ones who we can officially say are married are Cinderella, Ariel, Jasmine, Tiana and Rapunzel – Snow White, Aurora and Belle are only romantically involved. Also, a simple Googling of "Did Belle marry the Beast" shows that the opinions of online writers are currently divided. Therefore, I believe that it is safer to leave the spouse and occupation sections of the infobox blank.--Changedforbetter (talk) 21:59, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
Then we should probably leave the section for Aurora's spouse blank because we did not officially see a priest marrying them at the end of Sleeping Beauty. And1987 (talk) 23:23, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
And1987 Aurora is a sensitive subject. Although they technically do not get married, Aurora and Philip are betrothed for the entire film and a wedding is obviously the "next step". So I believe that including Philip as her spouse does not pose as much of an issue, and you would have a hard time convincing users otherwise. However, one must remember that they in fact are not actually depicted getting married. Either way would work.--Changedforbetter (talk) 23:44, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
And1987 I just realized that this issue can be easily resolved by including the underused "significant other" section in the article, as I have done to Belle's article to suggest a compromise.--Changedforbetter (talk) 00:31, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
Thank you Changedforbetter. I was actually about to say that on Sofia the First, Belle was referred to as "Princess Belle" twice by Sofia in this official video from Disney Junior. [1] However, what you have written works very well. And1987 (talk) 01:16, 4 February 2015 (UTC)

The next projectEdit

I like watching what article you choose to work on, because you always do such an impeccable job with each new project you take on. I was just wondering if you had any ideas of the next thing you're thinking of improving. Not because I want to interfere or anything. I have a genuine interest in what article is soon to get a massive boom in quality. It's kind of exhilarating--Coin945 (talk) 04:02, 4 February 2015 (UTC)

Coin945 Lol why thank you. I really don't have any pre-conceived notions of what article I want to work on; simply depends on how I'm feeling. I usually choose articles that are relatively older or obscure as they garner less attention from other editors, giving me more freedom to do with it what I please and limit edit warring. Since I just reconstructed a Disney character article, my next project will probably be a Disney song.--Changedforbetter (talk) 18:30, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
Ahh yes.. what you did with Belle is realy quite astounding. Many other editors would have been content with what was there before (it was already a GA after all), but it is soo soo much better now. :D As something a little bit different, may I suggest one of the Disney stage musicals?

--Coin945 (talk) 04:34, 5 February 2015 (UTC)

Coin945 I'm actually the editor responsible for bringing Belle to GA status back in 2012, but of course it fell subject to fan cruft for two years and I abandoned it until earlier this year. You made a valid suggestion, of course, but I'm afraid that Disney Broadway musicals are a little too ambitious for me, and require someone with enough time and expertise to find sufficient information on ticket sales, box office numbers, tour dates, etc. What I could possibly do is expand the critical response sections, but that would be about it. I'm much better off sticking with smaller-scale articles. Thanks though!--Changedforbetter (talk) 16:19, 5 February 2015 (UTC)
Ahh yes that makes sense. Character and song articles are probably much easier to find sources for because their scope is smaller. It's not like you have to consult box office sites, and DVD extras, and legal documents, and all this disparate stuff for the various sections. FWIW I knew you were the one who brought Belle to GA. What I meant was that by returning to the article and brutally copyediting it, you've made it really quite the comprehensive article that goes above and beyond to explain who this person is and their importance to the industry. One quick thing thoguh... at one point you mention "her dad and Maurice" (i think in reference to her mothering other characters). Her dad *is* Maurice so I think you meant Beast. Forgot to bring it up earlier. Oh nearly forgot... the sources I collected for Talk:Colors of the Wind (you said a while ago youd be interested in it) are still there if you didnt feel like looking for sources (huzzah for laziness :P). Other than that, I wish you all the best with your future endeavors. Ciao. :)--Coin945 (talk) 16:36, 5 February 2015 (UTC)
Coin945Thank you for the correction and yes I'll remember to keep Colors of the Wind in mind.--Changedforbetter (talk) 05:18, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

Green vs GreeneEdit

First off, I would like to congratulate you on getting Rachel Green to GA status. As a courtesy I am interested in getting your opinion at a discussion, Talk:Rachel_Green#The_Green_vs._Greene_section, regarding a new section which has recently been added to the article. Personally, I think it is detrimental to the article and I have removed it twice; however, as you are the editor who elevated it to its current standing I am happy to defer to your judgment in this matter. If you are happy for the new section to be added I will withdraw from the dispute, but if you also disagree with its inclusion perhaps you will contribute your thoughts to the discussion on the talk page. Best regards, Betty Logan (talk) 22:22, 3 October 2015 (UTC)

@Betty Logan:

Thank you for having the decency to include me in this matter of dispute. And you're absolutely right in removing the section; yes, the fact that Rachel's surname is spelled inconsistently throughout the series is no secret, but there is simply no need include an entire section about it, especially when the general consensus agrees that the character's last name is spelled Green.--Changedforbetter (talk) 23:41, 4 October 2015 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!Edit

  The Original Barnstar
My congratulations on your amazing accomplishments at Wikipedia! I have read with great pleasure several of your contributions. Bravo and ...Merci! Natalie.Desautels (talk) 16:00, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

Some feedback please; your expert advice would be greatly appreciatedEdit

@Changedforbetter:

Hello Changedforbetter,

My congratulations on your amazing accomplishments at Wikipedia! (I sent you a much deserved barnstar to add to your collection : )

I have been referred to you by Checkingfax; indeed, you are highly recommended by him! I have created an article on classical and flamenco guitar and atonal music in general and on internationally renowned Canadian guitarist Michael Laucke in particular. So far, I'm delighted that it has been ushered in live, and several editors have sent some nice comments my way; still, I feel improvements in style remain to be made.

I am proud to have contributed about several hundred hours of research. We are approaching 500 edits, about half of which are the incredible work of Checkingfax, and 12 other editors have also helped

I am hoping that you will be able to take a moment to give me some feedback; your expert advice would be greatly appreciated. My goal is to make it better, and I love to learn. I was reviewed, unbeknownst to me, about 300 edits ago, and given a C rating. The "grade" is not important to me personally, neither is credit in any way. But I have spent some time correcting Bots errors, and perhaps a GA rating would mean fewer robot visits, and more time to further develope this and other articles. I am a born perfectionist, and need to see things through to their logical conclusion, that means ...excellence. I am "polyglote" (multilingual); there is little difference to me between a few languages. So after this English version, I will have the pleasure of making a French one with different sources, and then a Spanish one.

My hope is to get an English version with improved syntax and style, smoothness and readability; indeed, this would be most inspiring for the translation and re-working into my other language versions.

The article references, of which there are over 80, are perfect according to various software like reFill and Proveit. Thus, my questions concern things like,

  • - Is the first paragraph in the lead too long?
  • - Does the lead have too much detail; should it be more general?
  • - In striving really hard for a neutral point of view, have I made it acceptable to Wikipedia but boring?
  • - Are the sections in the best order?

I do hope that this might interest you, that I have piqued your curiosity and that you can help me make a better version; even if time is short, as it always is, any feedback from you will help and be much appreciated, to be sure.

Cordially,

Kindest regards, Natalie --Natalie.Desautels (talk) 16:42, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

P.S. @Robvanvee: @Checkingfax, GrammarFascist, Bgwhite, and Vipinhari: I am pinging several editors who have showed interest in improving this article, just to keep you in the loop; hope it's in accordance with Wikipedia protocol, and non-intrusive. --Natalie.Desautels (talk) 16:42, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

@Changedforbetter:

Hello again, Changedforbetter

Hope you don't mind and that this in accordance with Wikipedia protocol, and non-intrusive. best wishes, --Natalie.Desautels (talk) 17:16, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

@Natalie.Desautels: Thank you for the barnstar; it is heartwarming to know that my work is being appreciated. I will take a look at the article, however, please note that biographies are not my expertise, so I will be limiting myself to refining the lede section. And yes, communicating on my talk page will do just fine :-)--Changedforbetter (talk) 22:44, 31 October 2015 (UTC)

@Changedforbetter: Indeed, it is a pleasure to read you, and a learning experience as well.
I was very excited to receive your message. An improvement to the lead section in Michael Laucke would be wonderful indeed! This is the section I perhaps worked hardest on. Thank you so much in advance, and once again, I would be amiss not to again mention how much I enjoy your work. very best wishes, gros merci! Hello @Changedforbetter: We've made a ton of improvements since we last communicated. I am hoping you can pass by and extend a brief opinion of Michael Laucke - maybe just a quick first impression if time is short (well, which it always is on this our mortal orb  )
@Checkingfax: has made amazing contributions. De toute façon, ...if you have a moment. Many, many thanks; very much appreciated. ...un gros merci! --Natalie.Desautels (talk) 13:30, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
@Natalie.Desautels: Sorry I haven't been able to work on the article myself. It was really my intention to, but I totally got caught up working on one of my own articles that I've been putting off for months. However, Michael Laucke looks great – many of the improvements that I would have made myself – especially within the lead – have, in fact, been made, and you should be proud. And well done fleshing out the rest of the article along with it!!!--Changedforbetter (talk) 04:29, 11 November 2015 (UTC)
@Changedforbetter and Checkingfax:
Hello @Changedforbetter:, How wonderful to receive your kind response! I know how one can get caught up in things (especially considering the little time given us on this, our mortal orb  ). Well, thank you for grabbing a moment to read through, and for your very kind remarks; ...encouraging also toward upcoming ideas which are brewing. I will also be doing the [Michael Laucke] article in some of my other languages, at least French and Spanish versions (I am a polyglot). Credit where credit is due though; I must say that while @Checkingfax: has done about half of the 900 edits, he merits credit for a great deal more—endless kind suggestions, amazingly appropriate technical guidance, and so on).
Well, thank you again; I am delighted! --Natalie.Desautels (talk) 06:09, 12 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi ChangedForBetter. The article you spent an impressive amount of time on (Beauty and the Beast (Disney song)) has been edited many times since you last edited it.

I wanted to show you the edit changes so you could be aware of how your version has been altered, and fix the offending tweaks if necessary. Some of those edits are mine; feel free to change my additions to your liking.--Coin945 (talk) 13:44, 4 December 2015 (UTC)

GastonEdit

Hi.

Think you can not only recreate Gaston from Beauty and the Beast as his own separate article, but also expand on the article, like you did with the Belle and Ursula articles? Weedle McHairybug (talk) 14:06, 22 April 2016 (UTC)

Hi @Weedle McHairybug:, I'd love to create and expand a Gaston article. It's actually been a goal of mine for a while, but I just haven't gotten around to it. Surely sometime in the not-so-distant future I'll take a look at it :-)--Changedforbetter (talk) 17:09, 22 April 2016 (UTC)
Well, technically, it's already created, but it's currently a redirect now. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Gaston_(Beauty_and_the_Beast)&redirect=no Hopefully, after you've taken care of the Ursula one, you'll be able to start on it. TBH, I am a bit nervous regarding your eventual rewrite of Ariel's article, though, since after I read up on your extensive rewrites on Belle and especially the source material, I basically lost my trust in Belle (well, okay, I was starting to lose trust in Belle since 2011, but that was where it really cascaded), and I really don't want to endure something similar with Ariel, especially when she and her film were the first films I ever watched. Weedle McHairybug (talk) 23:30, 22 April 2016 (UTC)
Hey, Changed, you've managed to barely make it a separate article, though it's still in the stub category. Think you can further do more to expand upon it? We don't want to be back where we started because some mod decided to redirect it due to it not having enough content, or worse, deleting it. I added a statement and source regarding a potential inspiration for Gaston given by Woolverton, and I've also copied/pasted the section for Gaston in List of Disney's Beauty and the Beast characters article onto that article as a stop-gap measure, but I fear it won't be enough. Weedle McHairybug (talk) 14:42, 21 August 2016 (UTC)
Hey @Weedle McHairybug:, I haven't forgotten about Gaston, I just have a few other Wikipedia projects I need to get my hand on before I go more indepth with Gaston. But, I have checked it out, and good job with expanding it so far :)--Changedforbetter (talk) 00:35, 25 August 2016 (UTC)
Just so we're clear, just how much more Wikipedia projects do you have? And can you cite names for the projects? Just want to make sure I don't have to wait too long. And thanks. Weedle McHairybug (talk) 11:53, 26 August 2016 (UTC)
@Weedle McHairybug: Ursula (The Little Mermaid), Princess Jasmine and Aurora (Disney).--Changedforbetter (talk) 18:19, 26 August 2016 (UTC)
Okay. One last thing, just how much more for each article do you still have to do? Again, want to make sure I don't have to wait too long. Weedle McHairybug (talk) 19:05, 26 August 2016 (UTC)
Aha well if you must know, Aurora literally just got promoted to GA today, so it's only the other two left. Jasmine is on its way (hopefully end of next week). And I might actually just leave Ursula alone for a while. You know, you're welcome to continue working on Gaston in the meantime; no need to wait for me.--Changedforbetter (talk) 04:10, 27 August 2016 (UTC)
I've readjusted the article to include sections, and rearranged some things, but that's all I can do. Weedle McHairybug (talk) 11:59, 22 September 2016 (UTC)
@Weedle McHairybug: I appreciate the work you've done on the article so far; I just want to make sure I've collected enough data and references before I continue to transform it. Thanks for your patience.--Changedforbetter (talk) 17:38, 3 October 2016 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Paige O'Hara.jpgEdit

Thanks for uploading File:Paige O'Hara.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 22:05, 1 July 2016 (UTC)

Hello, I wished to talk you over the matter of the foreign languages versions of "I'll make a man out of you". In recent times, people has been growing more and more interested in dubbed versions of Disney songs (just take a look at the activity going on the "Let it go" page). Thus, I wouldn't really call a table listing foreign versions "unnecessary", as this sort of information is getting more and more popular, so I don't see a reason to contrast it. Sorry for bothering you about this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ninahi8 (talkcontribs) 10:08, 22 August 2016 (UTC)

Coin945 on the subject of Beauty and the BeastEdit

Hi Changedforbetter, I hope you're doing well.

I just wanted to apologise for any behaviour I showed during the expansion of the Beauty and the Beast (Disney song) that caused you annoyance, stress, or unhappiness. Sometimes in my urgency and quest for completion/comprehensiveness, I may come up with ideas and want to act upon them immediately, like in the revising of the "Use in Beauty and the Beast and ballroom sequence" section. This was wrong of me, and not fair to you who have put in countless hours of work, and I just wanted to extend a handshake to you.

I wish you all the best for the future.--Coin945 (talk) 03:36, 20 September 2016 (UTC)

Gaston (yet again)Edit

Hi.

Can you continue with your edits to the Gaston article? See, it's being tagged for deletion and we really need to make sure we give enough details about Gaston either regarding development, other appearances, reception, or anything like that to make sure it won't get deleted. Weedle McHairybug (talk) 12:12, 19 January 2017 (UTC)

I've added in some details regarding Gaston, namely the development section regarding his time as "Gaston Legume" in the Richard Purdum draft as well as the reasons why he was altered when that draft was cut, but I'm pretty much limited elsewhere. Bing can only take me so far, and I'm not even sure if some of the articles I do find (such as this article relating to the development trivia about Gaston's original fate) are Wikipedia-appropriate. Awesome work with the Clair Huxtable article! I can tell you put a lot of work into this. I watched the show a lot as a child and it is really cool to read about this character in particular. Gaston revisionEdit

Hi.

You reverted my edit regarding why the Gaston LeGume version as well as the draft he appeared in was rewritten with the following: "I'm afraid I'm going to have to remove this, especially since the sources you provided do not support any such claim."

I'll tell you how exactly at least the first source supported the claim: This is from the first few paragraphs within that source:

"It's the fairy tale that daunted Disney.

"Nearly a half-century after Walt Disney first considered it, "Beauty and the Beast," the fairy tale that evaded the master storyteller, has finally been brought to the big screen.

"It required a feminist twist on the classic fairy tale; the talents of Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, "The Little Mermaid" songwriters of Disney's Christmas season hit two years ago, and the commitment of Disney Studios chairman Jeffrey Katzenberg and Walt Disney Company vice chairman of the board Roy E. Disney (son of Walt's brother Roy) to make the film a reality."

And I'd know because it was in the Belle article as well. Basically, I wish you'd at least keep the first source, if not the full edit.

Note about Nala articleEdit

I would recommend that you either report the IP addresses that are making the disruptive edits on the Nala article, or request that it should be protected for a set amount of time to avoid future issues with the page. Aoba47 (talk) 22:41, 11 August 2017 (UTC)

@Aoba47: Ugh, you're right. Disney-related articles are constantly targeted by edits like these from anonymous editors. I've been putting it off dealing with them for a while (and just reverting edits) but I'll definitely look into a more permanent solution soon. Thanks!--Changedforbetter (talk) 01:44, 12 August 2017 (UTC)
  • No worries, and I am sorry to hear that those articles get targeted. I guess it makes sense as Disney is very popular, but vandalism is never cool. I just wanted to suggest this so you do not get in any trouble for all of the reverts as the string of ones on the Nala page seem rather consistent unfortunately. Ariel and MaleficentEdit

Hi.

I wanted to ask: Are you planning on doing any significant overhauls for Ariel's article?

Also, are you going to also overhaul Maleficent's article? If so, think you can post the source claiming that Walt Disney actually ordered that none of the heroes should kill the villains after Sleeping Beauty? I definitely remember reading that a few years back. Weedle McHairybug (talk) 14:37, 16 August 2017 (UTC)

@Weedle McHairybug: I don't really have "plans" to work on either of those articles, but it could be a possibility for sure. Also out of curiosity I Googled the quote you mentioned but the results came up pretty dry, unfortunately.--Changedforbetter (talk) 17:00, 16 August 2017 (UTC)

Pocahontas, anyone?Edit

Hi Changedforbetter, you thanked me for adding a new pic to the article Princess Jasmine. I looked at you user page and found that (like me) you love Disney and films with strong female protagonists. With that in mind, would you be willing to evaluate the article for Disney's Pocahontas if I nominated it for GA status? MagicatthemovieS (talk) 12:08, 22 November 2017 (UTC)

@MagicatthemovieS: Hi there, yes over the past few weeks I've noticed that we seem to have quite a bit in common in regards to the edits we make; after a quick glance through Pocahontas, I'm gonna go ahead and say that it looks like it's a very strong article that I would be happy to review for GA :-). You've really turned it around!--Changedforbetter (talk) 05:50, 23 November 2017 (UTC)
@Changedforbetter: Thanks for the compliment and swift response! I nominated the article! MagicatthemovieS (talk) 12:08, 23 November 2017 (UTC)
@Changedforbetter: What else should I do to the Pocahontas article? MagicatthemovieS (talk) 12:08, 25 November 2017 (UTC)
Hey@MagicatthemovieS:! I'm so sorry, Please don't take my absence from the project to mean anything other than I've been having some computer trouble at home; I've been closely monitoring your work so far using my phone, and must say I am impressed - I'll leave some more review comments later today.--Changedforbetter (talk) 20:07, 25 November 2017 (UTC)
@Changedforbetter: No problem - just checking in with you. MagicatthemovieS (talk) 12:08, 25 November 2017 (UTC)
@Changedforbetter: Who is the rightful editor? I would be happy to contact her/him to see if they would be OK with the article being nominated. Also, I most certainly wasn't trying to take credit for anyone else's work! I was just trying to better this article. MagicatthemovieS (talk) 21:02, 25 November 2017 (UTC)
@Changedforbetter: Since the Pocahontas article has been peer reviewed and re-nominated for GA status, would you be interested in reviewing it for GA status, or do you know someone who would who hasn't contributed to the article to a significant degree? MagicatthemovieS (talk) 21:02, 27 November 2017 (UTC)
@MagicatthemovieS: Just nominate the article as you normal would, and hopefully a suitable editor will approach this time around.--Changedforbetter (talk) 05:42, 28 November 2017 (UTC)

Possibility of providing your input on a Peer Review for Regine Velasquez's entryEdit

Hi Changedforbetter,

I'm writing to ask whether you would consider having a look at the article. I'm aware that you've been involved with a few PRs before. I've given it a major rewrite and complete overhaul. I began working on the article late October when it looked like this and somehow ended up rewriting the whole thing and aiming for potentially FA. This isn't a process I've been through before, but I have been reading the reviews here in preparation, and am familiar with FAC demands. I would very much appreciate a fresh set of eyes and happily address any concerns you may have.

Thanks! Pseud 14 (talk) 04:25, 3 December 2017 (UTC)

"Colors of the Wind"Edit

Hi Changedforbetter, it's me MagicatthemovieS. You might remeber me from that Pocahontas fiasco a few months back. Good news - I did get the film to GA status. I am now in the process of improving the article for "Colors of the Wind" and I'm wondering if you might like to join me in improving it. ----MagicatthemovieS

  • Congratulations on the Pocahontas promotion! You've done good work. I can try and take a look at "Colors of the wind" within the next few days.--Changedforbetter (talk) 17:51, 13 February 2018 (UTC)
The article is good except for two major issues - it needs ifo on its use in the film and on the many, many covers of it. Thanks for wanting to help improve it!--MagicatthemovieS
Also, if you're interested, I'm trying to improve the Pocahontas (character) article so that it's up to the standards of the articles for Belle and Jamsmine--MagicatthemovieS
Hi MagicatthemovieS, I just wanted to give you a heads up that there's currently a bit of an issue going on with Wikipedia's editing tool (for some reason, text that I type is constantly being re-arranged and deleted – often into illegible text – while I type them with little explanation, making the process tedious) that has been affecting my ability to edit articles as quickly as I would like to, which may delay my ability to revise your "Colors of the Wind" article.--Changedforbetter (talk) 16:15, 16 February 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for the heads up & thanks for being an awesome Wikipedian!----Magicatthemovies

Hi again! I wrote most of the "Colors of the Wind" article and I see you've edited it. I was thinking that perhaps we could divide up the work so we could get it to GA status. Do you like that idea? --MagicatthemovieS

Hey, amazing work on the article! I was also thinking on adding more as it was lacking much info about her career as a whole. Thank you... (My last night edit was unintentional, I think we were both editing at the same time). Warm greetings to you. 190.249.179.87 (talk) 17:23, 18 May 2018 (UTC)

File:Violet Parr.jpgEdit

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:03, 31 May 2018 (UTC)

  • Seconding the above. Also, I was thinking about picking up the Violet Parr good article nomination for review this weekend, but I remembered that Incredibles 2 came out not more than a week ago. Do you envision that the content of the article will change a lot in the coming weeks as more information about the character's role in the new film is published? It might be better to wait until the article is a bit more stable before doing a GA review. Mz7 (talk) 08:01, 21 June 2018 (UTC)
  • Mz7 Hi there, thank you so much for your kind words and interest! I get what you're saying; honestly, I don't expect that the article will change that much in the wake of Incredibles 2 (apart from the "Appearances" and "Reception" sections, which I've kind of already updated), but I wouldn't hold it against you if you wanted to hold off a little longer. It'll be here whenever you're ready! :-) --Changedforbetter (talk) 14:58, 21 June 2018 (UTC)

DOAXVV FionaEdit

Okay, fair enough, and I'll let you remove the youmay thing, but I will note that her official in-game bio, or at least the one provided by Famitsu, specifically lists as her occupation "Princess". I'd know because, aside from various video game journalist sites reporting on it, I myself translated the bio to get that information. Heck, I'll even post the biographical information for Fiona to prove it:

Translation: Princess Lover

A proposal and a favourEdit

The Princess Diaries is now a GA. Congratulations! I just have a small proposal to put to ye. How about you and me collaborate on a film article (A disney one). The choice of the article will be yours (Make it any one of the older film articles coz I'm a sucker for Disney films before Lilo and Stitch). Do let me know if you agree to it by pinging me. Thank you.    — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 08:22, 19 April 2019 (UTC)

This sounds doable! I rarely opt for collaborations (I tend to get a little possessive about the articles I take on lol), but in my opinion having you as a collaborator can only prove to be an asset. Not sure when I'll be taking on another Disney film article, but should I start one I'll ping you to see if it interests you Ssven2.--Changedforbetter (talk) 16:51, 19 April 2019 (UTC)
Thank you very much for that Brownie. Yes, if you are planning on any Disney film article, let me be the first to know lol. Personally, I've always wanted to work on Lady and the Tramp or Lilo & Stitch (both are my all-time favourites), but as I said, it is your call.    — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 16:56, 19 April 2019 (UTC)

And now the favour (QPQ). I was hoping you could give a thorough set of comments at my latest attempt at FA. The article is a 2003 Bollywood film, Kal Ho Naa Ho starring Shah Rukh Khan. The link for the Peer Review is right here. Do let me know if you are planning to give the article a good look and provide some constructive comments by pinging me. Thank you.    — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 11:24, 19 April 2019 (UTC)

I tend to avoid the FA nomination process in general because I find the process can get stressful and overwhelming, but I'll take a look if I have time (I might be taking a short break from Wikipedia for a while; I just got two Good Articles promoted within a day of each other. While working on Diaries, I was simultaneously responding to comments for So Close's GA nomination haha). Ssven2
Thank you. No worries man, you can take your time to post comments at the Peer review.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 16:56, 19 April 2019 (UTC)

"Smelly Cat"Edit

Awesome job with the above article! It is a really fun and fascinating read. I remember in some late night interview that Kudrow joked there could be a whole Friends musical with Phoebe singing. I know that is only a joke, but I would honestly like to see how that would work lol. You definitely keep me inspired. I will have to work on something Friends-related in the future now lol. Aoba47 Hi there! Thank you for your kind words, as well as for the little edits you've been making here and there (they don't go unnoticed). Hello again, and thoughts on The Little Mermaid remake?Edit

Hello again! Apologies for the super random message lol. I hope you are having an excellent week so far. Since you have worked on several Disney-related articles in the past, I was curious on your opinion on all the casting news regarding the live-action The Little Mermaid film. I am personally not a fan of the live-action remakes; I do not hate them, but I am just not their target audience. Although, I did see Cinderella, which I really enjoyed, and Beauty and the Beast, which I thought was good.

I thought Halle Bailey was an awesome choice for Ariel, but I was very disappointed by Melissa McCarthy being cast as Ursula. I like McCarthy, but the Disney villains (like Ursula) are always my favorite part of the films and I have my doubts on whether or not McCarthy could do justice to the character. There was also a lot recent news about Harry Styles passing on the role of Prince Eric.

Hearing all of this news made me think of you, and I was honestly curious about your opinion. I kind of wish they would do live-action remakes on the more obscure Disney titles, such as Treasure Planet, Atlantis: The Lost Empire, or The Emperor's New Groove (one of my personal favorites), but I can understand why the company would go for the more bankable choices in the Disney Renaissance. With all of these musical adaptations, I just wish that the film version of Wicked was already out or at least a casting announcement lol. Apologies for the long rambling message; I did not meant for it to be so long lol. Aoba47 (talk) 19:51, 15 August 2019 (UTC)

Aoba47 Hi there! It's nice to hear from you; I hope you're well. Much like yourself, I'm very ambivalent towards Disney's live-action remake phenomenon, and similarly found Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast to be only remotely watchable at best (the former more-so than the latter, but that's probably because the original Beauty is my favourite animated film of all-time and I probably viewed it through a more critical lense).
Regarding Mermaid..."meh" haha. I'm in love with the idea of Ariel being a woman of colour (I was a staunch advocate for her on social media when her casting was met with racist backlash), and I think Halle will do great (at least she can sing circles around Emma Watson, obviously). I love Melissa McCarthy as much as the next person, and although I'm sure she'll make a funny Ursula, I fear she lacks the "gravitas", camp and theatricality another actress could bring to the role (Glenn Close, Bette Midler, Bernadette Peters, Jenifer Lewis come to mind). I was really hoping Disney would cast a drag queen as Ursula, Ginger Minj for example, in homage to Divine, on whom the character was originally based. But the prospect of the adaptation itself...both worries and excites me. Much like the animated version, setting an entire film underwater is an opportunity for boundless creativity, and Disney could either use this to great effect to enhance pre-existing stories and characters (Cinderella), or play it safe (Beauty and the Beast), but preferably the former. I'd love to know who's playing Sebastian though!
Of all the Disney remakes, I found The Lion King to be the most disappointing thus far. It's not a horrible film (none of the remakes are, to be honest), but taking one of the most acclaimed, dynamic and beautiful films ever made and watering it down into a shadow of itself with flat line readings and neary a hint of originality was a dagger to the heart. I found the issue to be that, despite being animated, Lion is actually quite a grounded, realistic story in comparison to the others, lacking the fantastical elements of the rest of Disney's animated catalog, save for Mufasa's appearance in the clouds. So by removing these few magical elements in favour of hyper-realistic animals void of human emotion, the film simply becomes a nature documentary (a problem even Aladdin, corny as it was, managed to avoid) un-captivating to watch, and not even enough changes to make it worth the price of admission (Nala's characterization was a huge disappointment for me).
I love your idea of Disney re-making some of their lesser-known titles, although honestly at this point I long for them to release something new, or with a "twist" (Mermaid from Ursula's perspective) and preferably fully animated. Not sure how much more of humans standing against green screens and CGI backgrounds I can take lol.--Changedforbetter (talk) 01:53, 16 August 2019 (UTC)
I felt the same way. I actually quite enjoyed how romantic and how much time was given to the Cinderella ball dance scene, but I am a hopeless romantic in that way lol. I had much higher expectations for Beauty and the Beast, particularly because I really like Emma Watson, and it was mostly a letdown. I think Watson would have been a better fir for that cancelled Guillermo del Toro version of Beauty and the Beast. These live-action remakes appear to be Disney's way of getting plenty of cash to support its new streaming service and its crop of new (and probably expensive) shows. And they are certainly making bank lol.
Emma Watson (and Emma-tune) simply doesn't lend herself well to a musical, but if Beauty had been staged as a serious period drama, she may have fared much better, which is a shame because she is by far the weakest singer among the cast. "Making bank" is an understatement haha; The Lion King 2019 is now the highest-grossing "animated" film of all time, leaving a trail of far superior animated films in its dust unfortunately.--Changedforbetter (talk) 03:56, 16 August 2019 (UTC)
It is hard to beat the Disney machine for sure. All of the live-action remakes are making tons of money, but that does not necessarily make them good. I honestly was only interested in The Beauty and the Beast movie because of Emma Watson's casting, and unfortunately, she was not particularly great in the film. Not everyone is made to be for musicals. I think Watson was only chosen for the stunt casting (which worked to get me into a theater lol) and she was already tied to a Beauty and the Beast property. I think focusing on more dramatic fare would have been a better choice for her career though, which seems to have stalled as of late. Aoba47 (talk) 10:01, 16 August 2019 (UTC)
I shouldn't be surprised by the backlash against Halle Bailey, but I was still very disappointed. I love Melissa McCarthy too, particularly in Gilmore Girls, and she showed range in Can You Ever Forgive Me?; I am just uncertain that McCarthy's style of humor fits with Ursula as a character. I would have more confidence in this casting if a better director was at the helm of the film, but Rob Marshall has not made a great film in a while. I had a feeling that they would not choose a drag queen because it would probably hurt the film's international box office. I would have loved Ginger Minj and I saw a lot of support for Titus Burgess to play the role. Even if they felt like they had to cast a woman, there are so many better options. I feel Queen Latifah would be a perfect fit, though I am 100% here for all of your choices. Glenn Close would slay it!
I believe Queen Latifah has been cast as Ursula in a live television version of Mermaid. When I found this out I was like...why didn't Disney think of casting her in the remake???--Changedforbetter (talk) 04:02, 16 August 2019 (UTC)
I would not be surprised if Disney wanted to go with a very racially diverse cast (a la Cinderella (1997 film)). With all of the casting news on Harry Styles, it seems they wanted a white actor for the Prince. If they made all of the underwater characters (i.e. casting Latifah), then it would look rather questionable to have a black mermaid leave her home for a white prince. I would not imagine that would be received well, particularly given how reactive social media is (for better and for worse). For me, Latifah already proven that she would be the best fit for Ursula with her Chicago performance and this photo shoot alone lol. But I was never a fan of the live action stuff so I am probably the worst person to test on what is working or not lol. I hope I do not sound too negative lol. Aoba47 (talk) 10:01, 16 August 2019 (UTC)
I never thought of it that way, but you're right haha. Unfortunately having a majority POC cast underwater might illicit a negative response from viewers in these sensitive times. I'm not sure how I feel about Harry Styles as Eric (this might come off as unfair on my part, but it seems like casting a heartthrob like him is simply a way to get more teenage fans into theatre seats), and thought perhaps Timothee Chalamet would have been a better choice if they wanted to go with a younger, more "boyish" actor, or Jordan Fisher. My one wish for whomever plays Ursula is that she still be terrifying, even in live-action, something I think McCarthy might struggle to bring to the table. Hopefully they don't rely solely on her comedic abilities, although she DOES have a decent singing voice (she duetted with Barbra Streisand on an album).--Changedforbetter (talk) 22:15, 16 August 2019 (UTC)
I only thought of it because I saw a video of someone saying it lol. It was not a conclusion I would jump to, but once it was pointed out, I could see a problem, particularly with Twitter. And that is a real shame tbh. I agree that Harry Styles would have been cast to draw an audience for sure. I think either Timothee or Jordan would be an excellent fit. It would be nice if they expanded on Eric as a character; he is perfectly nice in the original movie, but was a little flat (at least to me). I completely forgot about McCarthy's feature with Streisand. The behind-the-scene video of their duet was really cute, and she does have a cute voice. Maybe she will surprise us; her performance in Can You Ever Forgive Me? showed that she can play something more dramatically so I would hope the director guides her to give a more layer performance because the evilness and terrifying parts of the character definitely need to be there. I genuinely like McCarthy, so I would be really happy for her if she hit this one out of the park (or I should say the ocean lol). I would also be interested to see who they cast for the sisters and King Triton. Aoba47 (talk) 23:46, 16 August 2019 (UTC)
Eric is from around that time before Disney princes had much personality, so it would be great to see if Disney will develop him into a fully-realized, rounded character. The same can be said for Ursula, actually...although she clearly detests Triton and merpeople in general, the original film never quite touches upon the true source of her hatred and bitterness (although the Broadway musical re-introduced the idea of Ursula and Triton being siblings, which was originally intended for the film.--Changedforbetter (talk) 16:29, 18 August 2019 (UTC)
I wouldn't be surprised if they put Ursula and Triton as siblings in the remake. I could see that being a fun angle and Disney would market it as paying homage to the ideas for the original. I think Eric is a likable enough character, but I am sure we will get more from him in the remake. Considering that Harry Styles was the person Disney wanted for the role, I could see him having a song or a bigger singing part. Aoba47 (talk) 20:28, 18 August 2019 (UTC)
I saw someone recommend RuPaul for Sebastian, and I would love that. RuPaul is already legendary for his voice, and I would love to see his version of "Under the Sea". There is a lot that could be done with the movie as proven by the stage adaptation. I would love it if they used "I Want the Good Times Back" for the film, but they have never used stage material before so that is unlikely.
RuPaul would definitely be an interesting "take" on the character, but one thing I always loved about Sebastian is his Jamaican accent (as a Caribbean-raised person myself), so my personal choice would be someone who could at least replicate the accent, otherwise it might throw off the whole Calypso-vibe of some of the songs. Another idea I have is Disney releasing filmed, audience-attended, quality performances of their stage musical adaptions for limited times in theatres; it would be a good way to "revive" Beauty and the Beast, which closed on Broadway in 2007/2008 I think, or Mermaid, whose run on Broadway was underwhelming to say the least.--Changedforbetter (talk) 22:15, 16 August 2019 (UTC)
It would make the most sense to hire an actor either from the Caribbean or from a strong Caribbean background. I think that would be the best choice for them. I would love to see filmed performances of this stage musicals; maybe it could be like something similar to what they did for The Phantom of the Opera at the Royal Albert Hall. Aoba47 (talk) 10:01, 16 August 2019 (UTC)
Right, or like the concert versions of Les Mis.--Changedforbetter (talk) 22:15, 16 August 2019 (UTC)
They were both awesome! Maybe one day they will do it because Disney does have a very rich Broadway history (as we both already know lol). I would love to see some of the original Little Mermaid cast reprise their roles for the stage, but Sierra Boggess is probably considered too old for the part now (though I think she is still fabulous), and Sherie Rene Scott looked like she had fun with Ursula. Aoba47 (talk) 23:46, 16 August 2019 (UTC)
Seeing Sierra return would definitely be a treat, but it would also be a chance to show off some newer singing and acting talent (although I don't think anyone could play Sebastian except Titus haha). Actually, I just found out that Disney is actually working on reviving Beauty and the Beast for Broadway, which would be amazing! --Changedforbetter (talk) 16:21, 18 August 2019 (UTC)
That is great news! It seems like the perfect time to revive it, and I would love to see who they cast. There are so many great options for all of the roles. The Terrence Mann/Susan Egan picture in the article gives me all of the feels! lol Titus is definitely the definitive Sebastian lol. Aoba47 (talk) 20:28, 18 August 2019 (UTC)
And that is really cool that you were raised in the Caribbean! Aoba47 (talk) 10:03, 16 August 2019 (UTC)
I love Aladdin (I was obsessed with all three movies and the TV show when I was younger), but the genie CGI put me off. Something about the CGI in The Lion King also just looked silly to me, particularly when I saw the animals speak in the trailer. Hopefully, Disney has something original coming down the pipeline soon. For some reason, I am not excited about Frozen 2, even though I enjoyed the original. I have a very unpopular opinion, but I am not sure if I am a fan of Lin-Manuel Miranda. I was actually not impressed by Moana (probably had too high expectations), but I should check out his other stuff before I form a concrete opinion either way. Anyway, yet another long response from me. I have a tendency to ramble lol. I hope you are doing well too! Aoba47 (talk) 02:24, 16 August 2019 (UTC)
Weirdly, Will Smith's Genie was actually one of the best parts about Aladdin, second to Naomi Scott's Jasmine. But generally the CGI gave me cheap TV movie vibes, as well as some of the jokes and attempts at humor. In my opinion, the trailers of Frozen 2 seem like Disney is trying to turn the franchise into a new MCU, with all those jarring chase/action scenes and dramatic editing, which is never what the film was intended to be about. As for Moana, I really thought I was the only one who found it overrated! Aoba47 --Changedforbetter (talk) 03:56, 16 August 2019 (UTC)
I can see Will Smith doing a great job, and I respect him for taking on a role that is considered so iconic for another actor. My issue was not with the casting, but with the CGI which is a running issue I have with these live-action remakes. Frozen 2 is 100% a reaction to the popularity of the MCU films. On one hand, I get it because it is important to adapt to new trends. However, I think this idea would have worked more organically in a new film altogether. I am guessing Disney just wants to use the pre-existing Frozen fanbase rather than try something completely new because their previous turn for more action-based films over musicals did not do as well financially (I love Atlantis and Treasure Planet, but their box offices were not that great unfortunately). I have only seen the first half of Moana, and I just never cared to finish it. I thought I was the only person who did not enjoy it too lol. I just did not particularly enjoy the songs and I thought the plot had a weird pacing. Maybe it's because I went into it with such high expectations. I do not mean to sound too negative, because it may just not be for me. Aoba47 (talk) 09:43, 16 August 2019 (UTC)
Also I just wanted to say you have done awesome work with the Megara (Disney character) article. She has always been one of my favorite Disney characters. Aoba47 (talk) 10:04, 16 August 2019 (UTC)
You're exactly right. I feel like Disney is almost sleepwalking through Frozen 2, thinking to themselves that no matter what they do with it people will flock to see it in droves because the first one was such a juggernaut. I don't think I've ever seen Treasure Planet, but I definitely wore out Atlantis back when I had it on VHS haha; such an interesting, innovative film that audiences just didn't understand back in the day. Thanks a lot! I've wanted to create an article for Meg for a long time now, but was constantly arguing with myself over whether or not she is considered "notable". Finally I just decided to go for it, and sure enough the internet is laden with articles entirely devoted to her and her development process, so I figured why not (she's also one of my favourite characters, and totally underrated).Aoba47--Changedforbetter (talk) 22:15, 16 August 2019 (UTC)
I really enjoyed Treasure Planet; it had its flaws and quirks, but I appreciated how Disney was trying for something new and the space twist on Treasure Island was fun. I would suggest the film just how awesomely space is animated. If you ever see it, let me know what you think. Makes me want to re-watch it myself lol. I absolutely loved Atlantis; a part of me always identified with Milo because I was a complete nerd like him growing up lol. And I even ended up studying linguistics in college like him lol. I just made that connection now. And the entire cast (I have a soft spot for Kida and Helga) is just gold. And that is awesome! I can definitely see why you would go back and forth because Hercules was not as major as the earlier films. I will be interested to read the article once you are through! It definitely inspires me to work on a character article again. I would love to rewrite the Anya (Anastasia) (non-Disney but I still love that movie) or create an article for Yzma when I have time in the future. I always enjoyed the female characters the most for some reason lol. Aoba47 (talk) 23:46, 16 August 2019 (UTC)
I'll definitely check out Treasure Planet, when I have a moment. I just took a look at the main voice cast; it's amazing!!! I used to listen to the song "Where the Dream Takes You" from Atlantis on repeat, because I found it so inspiring, and it's so interesting that you ended up studying linguistics just like him! No wonder you're so good at writing haha. Both Anastasia and her character article could definitely do with a re-write; should you ever take either of them (or Yzma) on, I'd definitely like to know. Also sorry about the late response...it's been a busy week.--Changedforbetter (talk) 16:21, 18 August 2019 (UTC) Aoba47
The voice cast is pretty awesome in that movie. I loved "Where the Dream Takes You" too, but I was also really into Mya's career at that point. And thank you for the compliment. I could still grow as a writer, but I really appreciate that! And no worries. I have been pretty busy myself so I completely understand. Good luck with everything keeping you busy!
