Sumatra chicken

edit

Hey there, thanks for working on the Sumatra (chicken) article. I just wanted to point out that some of the changes you made are not in line with our Manual of Style for articles, and the general layout of articles. For instance: an article should have a lead section that defines the subject, and images if possible. Also, very large separate headers for sections that are only one sentence are unnecessary and make the article harder to read. VanTucky 03:47, 18 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Also remember that adding material directly from the Standard of Perfection is inappropriate. Not only is wholesale quoting a copyright violation, but Wikipedia articles are meant to be encyclopedic in nature, meaning they aren't guides for showing qualifications. You may want to read in detail about what Wikipedia is not. Thank you, VanTucky 03:50, 18 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Please desist and read the guidelines I've provided you, and perhaps check out some other quality chicken breed articles to see what the layout should be like. Simply reverting over and over again is not acceptable. VanTucky 03:53, 18 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I am working on this article for an English project. I am not very familiar with the editing but I am trying. When I edit the page, please don't just delete what I am trying to do. I know that you have done this longer than I have but I need help not someone just deleting my work. I will look at the other articles. Thanks for the help. Hi, would you please check my article to see if it meets Wikipedia standards. Please don't delete it, I'm trying very hard.

Thank-you. Poultrygirl (talk) 04:25, 18 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Okay, that's better, but there are still some important things to remember.
  1. Articles should have a picture if they are available. Wikipedia articles aren't like a school paper.
  2. Don't ever say what chickens should be like. Just describe what they are. That's what an encyclopedia is: an informational guide that describes facts about a subject rather than giving advice. This is why things such as Disqualifications are not okay. So instead of saying that "Sumatra males should have a long flowing tail", just say "Sumatras are known for their long, flowing tails". Image Copyright problem

Hi Poultrygirl!
We thank you for uploading Image:Sumatra hen.jpg, but there is a problem. Your image is currently missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. Unless you can help by adding a copyright tag, it may be deleted by an Administrator. If you know this information, then we urge you to add a copyright tag to the image description page. We apologize for this, but all images must confirm to policy on Wikipedia.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks so much for your cooperation.

I'm sorry to say, but I don't think you're understanding how Wikipedia works. Wikipedia is not a school project, and you can't do certain things just to fulfill an assignment if they contradict our guidelines. I'll remind you once again...

  1. Don't remove links, the ones made by double brackets you see when you hit the edit button (they look like [[link name]]).
  2. Don't remove other references (like the one to the Illustrated Guide to Poultry Breeds). The more references the better.
  3. Don't remove verified facts, like that Sumatras were imported in 1847. Reliable sources confirm this is accurate.
  4. You may want to read our picture tutorial on how to properly add images.

Please observe these guidelines as best you can, VanTucky 04:24, 1 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

File:Sumatra hen.jpg missing description details

edit
Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as File:Sumatra hen.jpg is missing a description and/or other details on its image description page. If possible, please add this information. This will help other editors to make better use of the image, and it will be more informative for readers.

If the information is not provided, the image may eventually be proposed for deletion, a situation which is not desirable, and which can easily be avoided.

If you have any questions please see Help:Image page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 20:45, 13 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
